Chapter 9 Skipping Class
Chapter Summary: She had absolutely no idea what Gu Linzhao was saying.
The week at Beichuan No.1 Middle School went by quickly.
The learning atmosphere here is much stronger than at Linlan No.1 Middle School. Fu Xianyin felt that this atmosphere was already close to the first mock exam when it appeared at Linlan No.1 Middle School.
Beichuan's senior year of high school had only been in session for less than a month.
This week was a long break, and Fu Xianyin packed her short-distance luggage during her lunch break, planning to take a taxi directly to the airport after evening self-study.
Evening self-study ends at 9:50 p.m., while Fu Xianyin's ticket is for 10:45 p.m., so the time is a bit tight.
To be on the safe side, she asked for leave during the last evening self-study session, but in Beichuan, requests for leave require explanation from parents and teachers.
Neither Chen Huimei nor Fu Dongyuan knew that Fu Xianyin was going back to Linlan City. Fu Dongyuan would never help Fu Xianyin with such a trivial matter. Chen Huimei's mental state had been unstable these past few days, and Fu Xianyin was afraid that if she knew that she was going back to Linlan, she would go crazy again.
Given Chen Huimei's erratic behavior, it's not impossible that she might just burn all her notes and error correction sets.
Unexpectedly, even 10 minutes after the bell rang for the last evening self-study session, the seat next to Fu Xianyin remained empty.
Without Gu Linzhao constantly deducting points from her score, Fu Xuanyin secretly took out her phone and sent a message to Lin Anxu:
Where did Gu Linzhao go?
During the last evening self-study session before the long break, Lin Anxu's mind was not on studying.
He replied almost instantly:
[He booked a flight to Linlan City tonight, the one for 10:45 PM. He'll definitely be stuck in traffic by the time he gets to the school gate after evening self-study and won't make it in time.]
Fu Xianyin evoked a complex mix of emotions.
Gu Linzhao is a truly steady person, both in his personal conduct and in his work.
He's usually very steady and calm, and during evening self-study, he always finishes his homework first before doing his own practice problems.
Fu Xianyin developed a bad habit of doing her homework according to the next day's schedule while she was at Linlan No.1 Middle School. If there was no physics homework in the morning, she would not do the physics homework that night and would rather do extra math problems than do the physics homework.
This bad habit meant that whenever a teacher changed the class at the last minute, she was doomed.
It's the same when catching a flight.
On the same flight, Gu Linzhao wouldn't gamble on the slight possibility of being late or not; he would directly choose the route with the least risk.
Gambler mentality.
This is how Fu Xianyin describes himself.
She held her phone and quietly typed a question to Lin Anxu:
[Will the teachers arrive at school a few minutes before the end of class before the long break?]
Not every evening self-study session is supervised by a teacher. If no teacher comes in 10 minutes before the start of the session, it means that no teacher will be supervising that session.
Lin Anxu:
No, everything is the same as usual.
He sent a cheeky emoji, and then:
[Beautiful lady, you're not planning to...]
Fu Xianyin:
[This young man is truly intelligent and has a bright future.]
[My sister is planning to skip this class.]
Lin Anxu:
[Awesome.jpg]
[Don't worry, sis, I'll keep Gu Linzhao a secret for you.]
There are no problems with Gu Linzhao's side.
Fu Xianyin made up her mind and, before school let out and before there was any traffic at the school gate, she quickly hailed a taxi to the airport.
She bet that Sister Gao wouldn't come to the classroom before school ended today.
The last row was extremely convenient for skipping class. Fu Xianyin packed her schoolbag, quietly slipped out of the classroom, then went to the dormitory to get her suitcase, and then went to the wall where she had climbed over last time.
She took off her long-sleeved coat, tied one end to the handle of her suitcase and the other end around her wrist. Then, stepping on the bricks that had been laid out, she lightly leaped up, grabbed the edge of the wall with both hands, and with a little effort, flipped herself over.
The suitcase wasn't light, leaving red marks on Fu Xianyin's wrist. Fu Xianyin shook her wrist, used her coat to pull the suitcase up, and just as she was about to throw it against the wall, she suddenly glanced at the wall below as if by reflex.
This is the psychological trauma from being caught red-handed by Gu Linzhao when he climbed over the wall last time.
Fortunately, nothing happened this time.
Fu Xianyin successfully climbed over the wall, got into the car, and arrived at the airport before 9:50.
She planned to go through security first, and then wait at another gate before boarding.
This way she can avoid running into Gu Linzhao. Even if they do meet, she can say that she rushed over at breakneck speed.
Since she had nothing better to do, Fu Xianyin found a table, took out her chemistry test paper, and started writing.
With a week and a half left until the monthly exam, we've already finished learning all the chemistry material up to the monthly exam this week, so this paper can be considered a mock exam.
Fu Xianyin tried doing the exercises without a book.
Twenty minutes later, she realized that she couldn't write most of the words in the closed-book situation.
She could even remember which page of the textbook contained some of the knowledge, what color that page was, what patterns it had, and what color notes she used.
But the most crucial knowledge points are precisely what I can't remember.
Helpless, she opened her textbook and notes, wrote out all the multiple-choice questions, packed her bag, and prepared to board the plane.
I showed my ticket to the flight attendant, who smiled and said, "17K, ma'am, please move to the back."
15, 16...
17! ? ?
Along with 17K, a familiar face appeared.
Gu Linzhao?
No way, can I be that unlucky?
The flight attendant opened the overhead luggage compartment lid, and Gu Linzhao looked up upon hearing the sound.
Then the two locked eyes.
Fu Xianyin forced a smile and said:
"What a coincidence, class monitor."
Gu Linzhao noticed a faint patch of gray on the knee of Fu Xianyin's school trousers and curled his lips into a half-smile.
He didn't pry into the origin of the gray object, but instead said, "It's quite a coincidence, you're from 17K?"
Fu Xianyin nodded, and the middle-aged woman sitting next to Gu Linzhao smiled and said, "Are you Linzhao's classmate? Come to Linzhao, sit inside and sit with your classmate."
Gu Linzhao did not refuse. The two stood up and let Fu Xianyin go in first. When Gu Linzhao sat down, Fu Xianyin noticed that he was also holding a chemistry test paper.
However, unlike her chemistry exam paper which was mostly blank, Gu Linzhao's paper was already mostly filled out.
She saw Gu Linzhao's exam paper, and Gu Linzhao naturally saw hers as well.
The boy leaned closer to him, his voice piercing Fu Xianyin's ears: "Do you need me to explain?"
Hearing this, Gu Linzhao's family members, seemingly disbelieving that Gu Linzhao would voluntarily help his classmate, glanced at Gu Linzhao with great interest.
Fu Xianyin glanced at her test paper and said, "Wait a minute, let me write it again. I'll ask you if I don't understand."
Ever since Gu Linzhao wrote down on a piece of paper that she could ask him if she didn't know something, Fu Xianyin really didn't hold back and asked him many questions these past two days.
Gu Linzhao nodded and continued working on his test paper.
Fu Xianyin also flipped through her textbooks and notes, struggling to write on.
After writing for an unknown amount of time, Gu Linzhao suddenly tapped her small table with his finger and said, "It's time to take off."
"oh."
Fu Xianyin tidied up the small table and hugged her books and test papers.
She has a high level of concentration; sometimes she's so focused that she can't hear what's going on around her. She probably didn't hear the announcement about putting away the small table.
The humming engine seemed to be right next to Fu Xianyin's ear as she watched the plane slowly fly into the night sky, away from the bright lights of the ground.
She put down the small table and continued writing the test paper, albeit haltingly.
After writing down everything I knew, there was only half an hour left before landing in Linlan City.
Gu Linzhao, who was next to Fu Xianyin, was memorizing vocabulary words with headphones on. Feeling Fu Xianyin's gaze, he took off his headphones and asked, "Finished writing?"
The lights in the cabin of the late-night flight were all off.
Gu Linzhao's voice was very low, each word striking Fu Xianyin's ear and causing a slightly tingling, itchy sensation in her earlobe.
She circled a few questions and handed the test paper to Gu Linzhao.
The engine's hum made it difficult for Fu Xianyin to hear Gu Linzhao's voice, so she unconsciously moved closer to him.
So their arms briefly touched, then separated again as Gu Linzhao wrote, and then touched again.
The contact between their skin was brief yet intimate; the boy's arm was warm, and the contrast with her cool forearm was particularly noticeable.
The engine noise is really too loud.
Fu Xianyin thought.
She had no idea what Gu Linzhao was saying.
