Han Wenwen stared at the woman with a meaningful look.
Maybe the emotions later on are not as extreme as when I first came.
Lin Zhengran and Han Wenwen sat on the empty bed next to them, and the mother and daughter chatted briefly about some things.
We talked about each other's experiences over the years and got a general idea of some things.
The woman lay flat on the bed. "I heard from your uncle that you were admitted to Peking University or Tsinghua University? That's amazing. They are two of the best universities in China."
Han Wenwen smiled: "Actually, I'm not that good at studying." She glanced at Lin Zhengran and held his hand: "I'm just lucky."
I glanced at the time and it was already quite late.
Han Wenwen said, "Okay, we've finished watching, so I won't disturb you to rest. Brother Zhengran and I should leave now. I hope... I hope you won't be so selfish in your next life and learn your lesson."
The woman smiled self-deprecatingly again: "Thank you, it's a good thing to be taught by your own daughter. I will definitely remember it."
After saying that, she suddenly coughed several times continuously.
Lin Zhengran, who had been silent, asked a question at this time: "Auntie, do you have any unfulfilled wishes?"
The woman looked at Lin Zhengran and immediately shook her head.
She originally wanted to say that it was all over and she was already satisfied to be able to see Han Wenwen for the last time.
But looking into Lin Zhengran's eyes, perhaps it was the strong sense of déjà vu that the end of life brought her.
Perhaps it was the woman's experience of dealing with so many men over the years, when they looked at each other, she suddenly felt that this boy was not an ordinary person.
Even better than those unattainable people she had met before. Her eyes flickered for a moment, and suddenly she looked at Han Wenwen again: "There is another one. That is..."
Lin Zhengran seemed to understand what that wish was from the look in her eyes when she looked at Han Wenwen.
Han Wenwen looked at her slightly moved expression.
The clever little fox seemed to realize something.
Before leaving, Han Wenwen clenched her fingers. She still satisfied the woman's wish because of the brief happy time in her childhood. She called her gently: "Mom, I wish you happiness in your next life."
The woman's beautiful but tired eyes dilated, tears welled up in her eyes, and she closed her eyes with her wish fulfilled: "Thank you, thank you Wenwen."
When Lin Zhengran and Han Wenwen stood up, they secretly sprinkled something from their hands into the water the woman was drinking.
It was a medicinal residue filled with a little bit of spiritual energy. Although it had no special effect, it could reduce much of the pain a woman would feel when she left the world.
Maybe there really is no regret.
The woman passed away peacefully in just a few days.
A week later, Han Wenwen and Lin Zhengran placed flowers on the woman's tombstone.
Han Wenwen's uncle and aunt were also watching.
Putting down the flowers, Han Wenwen stared at the photo on the tombstone and smiled with red eyes: "For mom, this is a good ending."
Lin Zhengran touched the little fox's head as a comfort.
She turned to her uncle and aunt and said, "Uncle and aunt, Brother Zhengran and I are going back to the north today."
My uncle nodded: "You live with Lin Zhengran now, right?"
Han Wenwen nodded: "Yes, we will live together soon. We will probably get married after we graduate from college, right, Brother Zhengran?"
Lin Zhengran responded: "Yes, I will invite my uncle and aunt to come over then."
The two of them always agreed on Han Wenwen's affairs. Now Han Wenwen no longer has anyone's support, so her uncle's family knows that they have no right to interfere with what she wants to do.
But my uncle finally said, "I hope you can be nicer to Wenwen."
"Don't worry, uncle. Let's go now."
They waved goodbye, but just as they turned and left.
Suddenly, three figures walked over from the distance.
Han Wenwen took a closer look and saw that it was He Qinglili and Jiang Jingshi.
She was surprised: "Xiao Qingqing, Lili and Sister Jiang, why are you here too?!"
The three of them came over, and little He Qing said in a cute and caring voice, "We heard you say on the phone that your mother had passed away, and we were all very worried that you wouldn't be able to handle it, so we wanted to come and see you."
Jiang Xueli also said proudly: "You and Zhengran haven't been back for such a long time. Although we were not allowed to come, we really couldn't stay in the north, so we came to see you."
Jiang Jingshi looked at Han Wenwen, whose eyes were red, and asked gently, "Wenwen...are you okay?"
Han Wenwen raised the corners of her mouth, holding Lin Zhengran's arm and smiling, as if she had completely returned to her normal self: "Of course, I'm not as fragile as you think. Besides, my mother didn't feel any pain when she passed away. Everything is fine."
The three girls looked at each other. They didn't quite understand the complicated feelings they had towards their mother.
After all, there are only a few people with such a background.
As the head of the family, Lin Zhengran said, "Okay, although you three just came, we have to go back right away. Let's find a place to eat and then take a car back to the north. We still have some things to do next. It's quite busy this year."
Everyone looked at each other and smiled briefly.
Later, He Qing, Jiang Xueli and Jiang Jingshi also placed the flowers they brought on their aunt's tombstone.
The five of them left together.
My uncle and aunt stood there without moving.
Only after everyone left did my aunt sigh: "Wenwen has so many friends now. She is like a completely different person compared to when I first met her."
The uncle looked at Han Wenwen who disappeared in the distance: "After all, she already has her own life."
The high-speed train heading north is speeding on the track.
Han Wenwen still held Lin Zhengran's hand and fell asleep again leaning on his shoulder.
I don’t know how many times I have done this in my sleep.
In the dream, little Han Wenwen was standing at that familiar yet scary intersection, still waiting for her mother to come back in the dark.
But she was no longer alone a long time ago.
But Kobayashi Masayoshi is always by my side.
Kobayashi Masanori said, "It's finally over."
"Ah?" Little Han Wenwen didn't understand: "What's over?"
Kobayashi Zhengran asked her to look into the distance, and this time she actually saw her mother's figure in the distance and stood up.
However, the mother did not come over. Instead, she waved to Han Wenwen from a distance and said, "Wenwen, Mom is leaving. Goodbye." The figure completely disappeared in the distance, and that road and the surrounding roads also became bright.
"Mom..Goodbye"
Xiao Lin Zhengran said: "You finally waited for her to say goodbye to you, so let's leave here too?"
Little Han Wenwen looked at Xiao Lin Zhengran eagerly: "Leave, where are you going?"
Xiao Lin Zhengran took Han Wenwen's hand and walked towards the light:
"Just follow me. You won't be scared if I'm here with you, but we can't stay in this dark place forever. There are still many new things to do."
Little Han Wenwen was holding his hand and following Lin Zhengran's footsteps, looking back at the intersection that was once dark but now bright.
With a smile on her face, she suddenly said to Xiaolin Zhengran, "Brother Zhengran, I want to eat fried chicken."
"Why would you want fried chicken so early in the morning? But I'll buy it for you."
Let's walk towards the light together. (End of this chapter)
