"Young Master Lin!" A wave of chaos and surprise ensued.
"Young Master Lin, don't move! Your left leg is broken!"
"He must be taken to the hospital immediately!"
Good heavens!
Gu Fanyan could hardly believe it; they were already at the hospital!
She followed them to the hospital.
He had an assistant with him, and Sheng Xin was busy taking care of him, so the clinic was simply too crowded.
She was standing right at the door.
The doctor's voice came through: "Your left ankle is fractured. As for the extent of the fracture, we'll need to take X-rays to find out."
"Doctor, please write the prescription," Sheng Xin said, then instructed her assistant, "Assistant Tian, go get a wheelchair. Brother Zhibai's injured foot can't bear any more weight."
After a while, two assistants pushed Lin Zhibai out.
Gu Fanyan's eyes met his.
Lin Zhibai moved his lips, as if he had something to say, and then a series of hurried footsteps came rushing over.
"Zhibai!" Lin's mother arrived.
Gu Fanyan subconsciously took a step back and looked away.
"Zhibai, how are you?" Lin's mother asked anxiously, accompanied by two nannies.
"Mom, what brings you here? Who called you?" Lin Zhibai asked impatiently, making a mountain out of a molehill.
Lin's mother straightened her expression. "Is it wrong for me to worry about my son? Alright, take him to get checked out quickly." She gestured to her assistant.
She stood motionless in the middle of the corridor.
The meaning was clear: they were blocking the way and preventing Gu Fanyan from going with them.
Gu Fanyan indifferently shifted her gaze; she had no intention of accompanying Lin Zhibai to the checkup.
However, Lin Zhibai's wheelchair stopped abruptly after only a few steps.
"Get Gu Fanyan over here," he instructed his assistant, his voice loud enough to be heard throughout the corridor. "She broke my leg, and now she's just ignoring everything?"
Lin's mother frowned unhappily: "What do you want her to do? Aren't two assistants enough?"
Lin Zhibai replied, "I don't care, whoever caused the trouble is responsible."
Lin's mother was so angry that her face turned red.
Gu Fanyan had no choice but to say, "Go get checked out, I'll pay for it. My leg hurts too, I can't push you up and down the stairs. If you're really upset, I'll send an assistant over."
Finally, Lin Zhibai was sent away.
Lin's mother said reproachfully, "Gu Fanyan, tell me, what exactly happened?"
Gu Fanyan sat down, her expression calm: "I haven't figured out what happened yet either."
"You should understand why I arranged for Sheng Xin to be Zhi Bai's special assistant, right?" Lin's mother continued.
Gu Fanyan was somewhat surprised.
I originally thought this was Lin Zhibai's idea, but I didn't expect that Sheng Xin had already gained Lin's mother's approval so quickly.
She hummed in agreement. "When Lin Zhibai gets married, the Gu family will definitely send their gifts."
She used the phrase "family-oriented" to indicate that she was drawing a line between herself and Lin Zhibai.
Lin's mother looked slightly satisfied. "Gu Fanyan, I hope you will keep your word."
Lin Zhibai's test results came back: he had a fracture in his left ankle and needed a cast.
The situation isn't too serious, but I need to rest for half a month first, and my left foot won't be able to put weight on it for a month.
The doctor kept explaining the precautions for hospitalization to Lin's mother, which Lin Zhibai found a bit annoying. "Mom, I have an assistant to take care of me. These issues will be taken care of."
The doctor realized he was annoyed, smiled, and went to check on other patients.
Lin Zhibai immediately asked, "Mom, what did you say to Gu Fanyan just now?"
A cold smile flickered in Lin's mother's eyes: "I didn't say anything. You should take good care of your injuries."
"Let Sheng Xin in," Lin Zhibai continued.
“That’s right, Sheng Xin is sincere towards you, you should give her more time…” Lin’s mother said as she waved to the outside, and Sheng Xin walked in.
"Get Zhibai a hot towel to wipe his face," she instructed.
Sheng Xin did as she was told and quickly wrung out the towel, but Lin Zhibai refused to take it, looking at her with cold and questioning eyes.
"Why did Gu Fanyan go to the archives?" he asked.
“She insisted that she could find her submitted project proposal in the archives…” Sheng Xin shook her head aggrievedly, “I had no choice but to take her there.”
"The archives room has a door, so why did she jump out of the window?" Lin Zhibai asked again.
Sheng Xin felt even more aggrieved. "I didn't know either. I didn't even know that the archives room could lead to that window."
"You didn't know, so you locked her in the archives room. There was no signal, and she couldn't call for help unless someone came looking for her, right?" Lin Zhibai asked a series of questions, his angry voice as sharp as a knife.
"No, no..." Sheng Xin trembled with fear and couldn't speak.
Lin's mother couldn't stand it anymore, "Alright, Zhibai..."
"Mom, shut up!" Lin Zhibai interrupted her rudely. "I tolerated you arranging for Sheng Xin to work at the company, but I hope you won't push her into my bed!"
Lin's mother immediately flew into a rage: "Do you think I'm meddling too much? You know perfectly well what I'm worried about. If you don't want me to interfere, then cut ties with Gu Fanyan completely!"
Lin Zhibai scoffed, "You think that just because I've broken up with her, I can marry someone else?"
Lin's mother was startled, her face turned pale, and she clutched her heart with both hands; something seemed wrong with her.
Seeing this, Sheng Xin quickly stepped forward to support Lin's mother: "Auntie!"
Lin's mother was so angry that she had some difficulty breathing.
Sheng Xin said, "Brother Zhibai, please say less. In your heart, does your aunt not hold as much weight as Gu Fanyan?"
Lin Zhibai turned his gaze away and remained silent, but his expression was still unpleasant.
Gu Fanyan stopped at the doorway, lowered her eyes and pondered for a while before deciding to turn around and leave.
As she walked out of the hospital building, she ran into Gu Zheng.
Gu Zheng looked her up and down, a hint of mockery flashing across his face: "Miss Gu, you really know how to come up with a plan to avoid giving a presentation at the project meeting."
Gu Fanyan looked at him coldly: "What are you doing here?"
"I don't need to report my work to Miss Gu." After saying that, Gu Zheng walked into the hospital building.
This guy!
Was her father grooming a helper or a rival for her?
Every extra word she said to him meant one less day she would live!
He must have come here because of her absence from the project meeting today.
It's possible they want to use Lin Zhibai's position as project general manager to suppress her or even force her to resign from her position as project manager.
Gu Fanyan also turned around and headed back to Lin Zhibai's ward.
Even if she makes mistakes or fails to meet standards at work, it's none of Gu Zheng's business to nag.
She had just reached the top of the stairs when she saw Gu Zheng standing not far away, with Lin Guangchen standing beside him.
Lin Guangchen tugged at his arm, but he immediately shook it off and left without looking back.
Gu Fanyan quickly retreated behind the wall, not wanting Lin Guangchen to see her.
When she heard Lin Guangchen's footsteps approaching, she pretended to have just come upstairs and went into the corridor.
"Dr. Lin."
“Miss Gu…” Lin Guangchen was somewhat surprised.
"I'm here to see Lin Zhibai. You just went to his place?" she asked frankly.
Lin Guangchen was taken aback for a moment, then said, "I was just about to go, let's go together."
He changed direction.
A hint of surprise flashed in Gu Fanyan's eyes. He had clearly been walking towards her just now... So she pretended not to know anything and walked into the ward with him.
"...Gu Fanyan's affairs are none of your business!" Lin Zhibai shouted angrily in a low voice as soon as he stepped inside.
“I’m in charge of the project now, and I’m here to talk to you as the president’s special assistant,” Gu Zheng retorted without flinching.
