Gu Fanyan curled her lips in disdain: "You want money? Simple."
She immediately took off a diamond ring from her hand and tossed it to him, saying, "Spend it sparingly, this is enough for you to live on for half your life."
The master glanced at the diamond ring, remained noncommittal, and then turned to look at Lin Zhibai.
Gu Fanyan subconsciously stepped in front of Lin Zhibai to block him, saying, "He's my assistant, he doesn't have anything valuable."
Lin Zhibai's eyes flickered slightly.
The master sneered, "No way, this gentleman looks like an extremely wealthy person."
Gu Fanyan's heart sank.
She said that on purpose. If you rob someone in broad daylight and get something valuable, you'll definitely run away immediately.
Fearing that something unexpected might happen.
But this master had his sights set on Lin Zhibai, clearly having come prepared.
"You..." She was about to speak when Lin Zhibai pulled her behind him and said to his master, "What do you see in me that you like?"
The craftsman looked him up and down, his gaze settling on his wrist, where the watch gleamed brilliantly in the sunlight.
"I want this one."
Lin Zhibai took it off without hesitation, lifted the watch strap, and let the watch dangle in the air. "If you want it, come and get it yourself."
Gu Fanyan was alarmed. He had invited the other person over; wasn't he afraid that the other person would seize the opportunity to harm him?
"Don't let him come any closer, he has a knife!" she whispered a warning.
"Will you still care about me?" he answered softly, his tone laced with sarcasm yet also with a hint of longing.
Gu Fanyan was speechless.
The master had already reached Lin Zhibai and reached out to grab the watch, but not actually to grab the watch; instead, he took the opportunity to grab Lin Zhibai's hand.
A flash of cold light, the blade appeared, and the knife stabbed towards his lower abdomen.
"Ah!" A scream suddenly rang out.
Lin Zhibai bent over.
Gu Fanyan trembled. Things had developed too quickly, and she hadn't had time to react at all.
"How are you?" She instinctively rushed forward and hugged him. "How are you?"
But then she saw him turn around, grin at her, and then a dagger appeared in his hand, stained with blood…
With a "bang," the master fell to the ground.
It turned out that he had taken the opportunity to snatch the dagger from his master and stabbed him.
Gu Fanyan breathed a sigh of relief and released her hands that were originally wrapped around his waist.
Lin Zhibai looked at her with complicated emotions... The sudden loss of warmth around his waist made him feel a little disappointed.
"Let's call the police." Gu Fanyan awkwardly turned her gaze away.
The police arrived quickly. The driver was taken to the hospital, while the two men were taken to the police station to give statements.
Gu Fanyan recounted the events as they happened.
But she didn't mention the doubts she had in her heart.
"Fan Yan!" As soon as she stepped out of the interrogation room, she saw Liang Zixin walking towards her, followed by a lawyer and two assistants.
“I’m fine,” she said, knowing what he was going to ask. “The taxi driver robbed us, and Lin Zhibai subdued him.”
Liang Zixin gave the lawyer a wink, and the lawyer immediately went to handle the relevant matters.
"Go buy me a cup of coffee," she said to Liang Zixin's assistant.
The two assistants were very perceptive and turned to leave together.
Gu Fanyan then whispered to Liang Zixin, "This matter is not simple. I suddenly changed my mind and switched to another taxi..."
She spoke so softly that he couldn't help but lower his head and get even closer to her face.
"I think this taxi driver was deliberately arranged by someone."
Liang Zixin was startled.
"Young Master Liang, have you found out the taxi driver's background?" Suddenly, Lin Zhibai's lazy voice rang out.
He stood not far away, arms crossed, one shoulder leaning against the wall, glancing at the two with a half-smile.
A hint of coldness flickered at the corner of his mouth.
Liang Zixin frowned; his question was quite impolite.
"Isn't this your territory, Young Master Liang? You can't even handle such a small matter?" He was even more impolite. "Or is it that the one who set up the scheme and the one who broke it were the same person?"
"Young Master Lin, what do you mean by that?" Liang Zixin said bluntly.
Lin Zhibai snorted lightly, not bothering to say anything more, and stepped past the two to leave.
"Young Master Lin, please make yourselves clear before you leave," Liang Zixin said seriously.
Lin Zhibai ignored her and continued walking until Gu Fanyan spoke up: "Lin Zhibai, what exactly happened?"
She seemed genuinely unaware that there was something fishy going on.
He paused briefly, turned back to look at her, and said, "Why don't you ask the father of your child?"
Gu Fanyan's heart skipped a beat. His eyes held resentment, sadness, and despair...
She watched his figure disappear, her thoughts wandering, and for a moment she was speechless with shock.
“Fan Yan…” Liang Zixin called her name softly.
She snapped out of her daze and said, "Let's talk somewhere else."
The two found a quiet spot by the roadside. "Zixin, what exactly happened today?"
"You called me because you must know something, right?"
Liang Zixin didn't hide anything and nodded: "Fan Yan, did you notice anything wrong with the car when you were driving today?"
Gu Fanyan looked surprised: "Is there something wrong with the car?"
Liang Zixin was also somewhat surprised: "Didn't you notice anything wrong with the car? Then why did you change cars?"
He told her everything Liang Mufan had told him, without missing a single word.
Gu Fanyan was stunned for a long time before she realized that she had no idea there was a problem with the car.
She changed cars simply because she didn't want Lin Zhibai to see the car charm Liang Zixin had given her.
“I understand,” Liang Zixin said, reluctant to admit it but forced to. “After you switched cars, they realized the tampering in the car wouldn’t work on you, so they sent someone else disguised as a taxi driver…”
"But he didn't expect that Lin Zhibai would be able to subdue this driver!"
Gu Fanyan nodded silently; the events now seemed to connect logically.
"Zixin, is your father really the one who orchestrated all of this?" she asked.
Liang Zixin hesitated slightly, "Fan Yan, give me some time, and I promise you I will get to the bottom of this."
Gu Fanyan nodded silently; she didn't know what else to say.
Liang Zixin raised his arms, hesitated for a moment, and then firmly grasped her shoulders.
“Fanyan,” he looked at her tenderly with his handsome eyes, “no matter what happens, I only hope that you are safe and happy.”
Peace and happiness—these seem like ordinary words, but achieving them is quite difficult.
When he said those words, he himself couldn't foresee what price he would have to pay for this promise.
...
When Lin Zhibai returned to the hotel, he saw his assistants standing in the lobby. They all breathed a sigh of relief the moment they saw him.
"Is it really that exaggerated?" Lin Zhibai raised an eyebrow. "I'm perfectly fine, aren't I?"
“Young Master Lin,” his most trusted assistant said, “we have already made the decision that we can’t go back.”
If something really happens to Lin Zhibai, they are prepared to run away and flee to the ends of the earth.
He almost got into trouble... Luckily, he reacted a second faster when the taxi driver's dagger came at him.
Even she thought something had happened to him; that urgent hug didn't seem fake.
