Chapter 629 Let's see if we can do it.

Everyone turned to look at the sound, and to their surprise, they saw the real person from the gossip column. They were shocked and embarrassed.

Gu Fanyan was also embarrassed, because she realized that the secretary who had brought her in earlier was not in the office.

The people talking about her had no idea she was there; they weren't saying it to her on purpose.

She could only pretend she hadn't heard anything and walk away.

She walked down the corridor and was drawn to a sound coming from an office.

"Young Master Lin, how can we talk about a project if we don't even understand these basic data?"

"Didn't you manage a branch office before? I don't need to teach you these basic things, do I?"

"That's true. Given your situation, you'd be better off starting as a clerk in Australia."

There are actually people like this in Lin's company, so rude to Lin Zhibai.

“You’re right, that’s why I wanted to invite you to the branch office to help me oversee things.” However, Lin Zhibai was surprisingly polite in the face of the other party’s difficult behavior.

Gu Fanyan involuntarily stopped and glanced inside.

I could tell the man was around 50 years old, with a full head of white hair and sharp eyes.

She recognized the man; he was probably a manager or director at the Lin family company.

He wanted to say something more, but when his gaze shifted, he saw Gu Fanyan and was momentarily stunned.

Lin Zhibai then turned his head, his handsome eyes immediately lighting up with joy, "Fan Yan!"

Gu Fanyan only felt a figure flash before her eyes, and then she fell into his broad embrace. "I thought I wouldn't see you today," he whispered in her ear, his joy almost overflowing.

Gu Fanyan tried to push him away, but he held her too tightly.

"Young Master Lin." The white-haired director came out. "Since Miss Gu is here, you don't need to work overtime tonight."

Gu Fanyan took the opportunity to break free from his embrace. "I'm just here to find information. You can go back to what you were doing."

“Miss Gu,” the director called out to her, “today is Young Master Lin’s birthday. The farmhand still has three days off. Don’t be so stingy. Hahaha.”

The director left with a smile.

Gu Fanyan was speechless. How did she become Zhou Bapi (a notorious skinflint)?

Lin Zhibai held her hand tightly, his face beaming like a child's. "I'll take you out to eat."

“I’ve already eaten,” she replied.

"Eat with me." He wasn't going to let her go anyway.

While driving, he held her hand, and the car moved slowly, getting honked at by the car behind several times.

Gu Fanyan couldn't hold back any longer, "Can you drive faster?"

Lin Zhibai shook his head seriously, "It's been a long time since I've spent time with you like this. Even a second too soon would be a pity."

Gu Fanyan pursed her lips helplessly, turned her gaze to the window, and a hint of tenderness appeared on her lips that she herself did not realize.

She thought he would take her to a private room.

When we arrived, we found out it was an outdoor restaurant by the lake.

The lakeside promenade under the night sky is dotted with a few dining tables, offering beautiful scenery and a peaceful atmosphere.

The waiter led them to the table and lit beautiful pine-scented candles.

"Mr. Lin, happy birthday!" the waiter said. "We offer complimentary birthday service here..."

Lin Zhibai raised his hand, interrupting her, "I don't need anything, I just want to stay quietly with my fiancée."

"Okay, then we won't bother you any longer." The waiter left.

Gu Fanyan thought for a moment. Today was his birthday, and she decided to put aside the fact that he still regarded her as his "fiancée" for the time being.

"Sister Fanyan, didn't you prepare a birthday present for me?" Lin Zhibai asked.

Gu Fanyan's heart skipped a beat, but she remained silent.

Lin Zhibai wasn't embarrassed. He took out a box and said, "But I've prepared a gift for you."

"I don't need it." Gu Fanyan shook her head.

He ignored what she said, got up, went behind her, opened the box, and inside was a beautifully designed women's wristwatch.

He took her wrist and personally put the watch on her hand.

The watch face was dark green and set with a ring of small diamonds, which made it even more dazzling against her fair skin.

The dial is engraved with the letters "gfy," which is the initials of Gu Fanyan's name, indicating that the watch is custom-made.

"I don't need a watch." Gu Fanyan didn't want it and intended to take it off.

But his large hand grasped hers along with her watch.

“You’re missing this one I gave you,” he leaned down and put his arm around her shoulder, his gaze fixed on the watch face. “Fanyan, from now on, I hope to be with you every minute and every second.”

Gu Fanyan stared blankly at the clock face for a while, then muttered unconsciously, "Every minute, every second, are you sure..."

“I’m sure.” He said without hesitation.

A bitter smile crossed her lips. "Lin Zhibai, promises are always easy to make. Let's see if you can keep them."

She still took the watch off and put it back in the box.

A hint of disappointment appeared in Lin Zhibai's eyes, but she was even happier because she wasn't as resolute in refusing as before.

“I will keep it. I believe that one day you will be willing to accept it.”

Gu Fanyan didn't answer, and turned to look into the depths of the lake.

He was also very happy and didn't answer, which can be taken as tacit agreement.

That evening, he returned home happily.

But then I saw my mother rush out, followed by the housekeeper and the nanny, all of whom looked nervous.

"mom?"

"Zhibai, you're back!" Lin's mother grabbed his hand, as if she had found a pillar of support, and her tense expression eased slightly. "Your secretary just called to say that your father suddenly fainted and is being taken to the hospital now!"

Lin Zhibai was taken aback, but quickly calmed down. "It's okay, Mom. We'll head to the hospital now."

Throughout the journey, he reassured his mother, "Dad isn't old. There could be many reasons why he fainted. He'll be alright."

Lin's mother's eyes reddened, "I've told him so many times to take care of his health, but he just won't listen..."

Lin Zhibai hugged his mother: "Mom, everything will be alright. Your son will take care of it."

When the family arrived at the hospital, Lin's father had already been taken to the emergency room.

The assistant and secretary greeted Lin Zhibai and his mother, both of whom had red eyes.

They were all employees who had been with Mr. Lin for a long time.

“Madam,” the assistant said, choking back tears, “Mr. Lin was fine during the day, but he suddenly collapsed while chatting with business partners at night.”

"It's all our fault for not taking good care of President Lin." The secretary was so anxious she was almost in tears.

Lin's mother shook her head worriedly. She was concerned about her husband and couldn't say anything to comfort him.

"Did my dad have a physical exam this year?" Lin Zhibai asked.

The assistant nodded. "The physical exam is over. They found out my blood pressure is a bit high. The doctor advised me to get more rest and not to stay up late."

Lin Zhibai was startled.

As they were talking, the doctor came out of the emergency room and said to the family, "Hemorrhage, very serious, transfer him to the intensive care unit immediately!"

Upon hearing this, Lin's mother's vision went black, and she collapsed to the ground.

Lin Zhibai quickly helped her up, and hurriedly instructed his assistant, "Go with the doctor and keep an eye on my dad."
