When Gu Fanyan arrived at the hospital, she saw two police officers standing outside the ward.
"Is the child awake? Did he say his name and where he lives?" she asked the officer.
The officer's furrowed brow had already given her the answer.
She entered the ward and found that the child had indeed woken up, but the gauze on his face and other wounds had not yet been removed, and only his eyes were moving.
Sensing a stranger approaching, the child instinctively turned his gaze, then his eyes darted away... He only relaxed when he realized the person was a woman.
"She found you on the road and took you to the hospital." The doctor was examining the child when he looked up.
Gu Fanyan smiled at the child.
The child's gaze softened considerably, and he stared intently at Gu Fanyan.
The police just said that the child refuses to speak, no matter how they ask him.
However, without knowing the child's identity, it's difficult to continue the investigation.
Gu Fanyan thought to herself, maybe she could give it a try.
“My name is Gu Fanyan,” she said softly. “That day I went to look at houses over there and found you collapsed on the roadside.”
“You were covered in injuries, which terrified me. Thankfully you woke up.”
"Thank you..." the child said in a hoarse voice.
The doctor's eyes lit up, and the police officer next to him was also excited.
Gu Fanyan persisted, asking, "Can you tell me your name? I'll call your parents to come over."
Upon hearing this, a flicker of fear crossed the child's eyes.
Then he closed his eyes tightly.
Gu Fanyan was taken aback and wanted to speak again, but the doctor quickly stopped her.
"Stop talking, everyone! The child is very agitated, and his blood pressure is rising rapidly!"
As we were talking, the readings on the monitor kept soaring, and the device even started beeping.
"Quickly, put him on a ventilator!" the doctor shouted calmly but solemnly. "Everyone else, get out of here."
Gu Fanyan quickly stepped back, looking worried: "What happened? Did what I just said upset him?"
The officer shook his head: "We've asked him the same question before. Although he didn't answer, he remained calm."
"Sister Fanyan." Lin Zhibai has arrived.
Gu Fanyan spotted him among the crowd, and her panicked mind instantly calmed down.
She told him what had just happened.
Lin Zhibai thought for a moment and guessed, "Is he unwilling to talk about his parents?"
Gu Fanyan was stunned, a terrible thought popping into her mind: "Could his injury be related to his parents?"
As they were talking, a nurse rushed out.
"How is the child?" Lin Zhibai asked immediately.
"Danger!" the nurse replied, already running off. "The doctor said we need to start resuscitation immediately!"
"Another emergency rescue!" Gu Fanyan said worriedly, "The child is so young, can he withstand such treatment!"
Lin Zhibai suddenly thought of someone and immediately took out his phone to instruct his assistant, "Go and fetch Dr. Hua right away."
A moment later, the assistant called back and said, "Young Master Lin, I just asked around, and Dr. Hua was already invited to Mr. Huo's home to treat the child. I've made several calls but haven't been able to reach her."
"I asked several people to help pass on the message, but they all said she doesn't answer the phone at all."
"President Huo?" Lin Zhibai asked, "Is it Huo Beichen?"
"Yes."
Lin Zhibai called Huo Beichen's company again, but the secretary replied, "President Huo hasn't come to work for several days."
He tried calling Huo Beichen again, but the phone was switched off and no one answered.
“That Huo kid,” Lin Zhibai said speechlessly, “the number he gave me isn’t even a private phone number.”
At this moment, Huo Beichen and Hua Fei were walking in an alley in a neighboring city.
The two men looked solemn and remained silent.
After discovering that Zeze was missing, Huo Beichen sent people to look for and investigate, and finally determined that the driver was closely related to the matter.
Instead of calling the police, he used his own methods to find the driver's whereabouts as quickly as possible.
The driver was hiding in a small house in this alley.
"You can stop here." At the corner, Huo Beichen paused briefly and glanced at Hua Fei.
She's been looking for Zeze these past few days, and she's visibly lost weight.
"I've already had several men flank us from behind," he added, only realizing afterward that he had added this to reassure her.
He cares about her?!
Not at all.
He was simply grateful for her tireless efforts over the past few days.
"You and your small group are no match for me?" Hua Fei retorted, two silver needles held between her index and middle fingers.
"There's no need," Huo Beichen immediately objected. "It's too dangerous for you to get close to him!"
To administer acupuncture to the other person, she must get close to them.
She is at risk of being hurt once she gets close to the other person.
Hua Fei's tone was flat: "Are you worried about me?"
Huo Beichen was taken aback, but before he could think about her words carefully, she had already spoken.
"You should worry about yourself instead."
After saying that, she quickened her pace.
Soon, they arrived at the small house.
The men sent by Huo Beichen have already surrounded the place.
After receiving Huo Beichen's nod, the leader rushed forward and kicked the door open.
Then they filed in with the others.
"President Huo!" A surprised voice suddenly came from inside.
Huo Beichen and Hua Fei immediately stepped inside.
Before Hua Fei could see what was inside, her hands were suddenly covered by a large hand. "Don't look," Huo Beichen's voice rang in her ears.
A thought struck her.
Then she pulled his hand away without hesitation.
The driver committed suicide and is no longer breathing.
"I'm a doctor, have I seen this scene less often than you?" Hua Fei left with her delicate brows furrowed.
Huo Beichen was slightly taken aback, only then belatedly realizing this.
He followed her out of the small house, only to see that Hua Fei's figure had already walked quite a distance away.
She was very anxious.
I'm very worried.
Even more so than him, the father.
Does she care about every single patient this much?
The lead on the driver went cold.
But it's clear that someone is trying to hide something.
Huo Beichen was at a loss for a moment. He returned to the car, rested his head on the seat cushion, and let out a deep breath.
"Have the driver's family been found?" he asked his assistant, who was waiting outside the car.
“We’ve found it,” the assistant replied. “Our people have gone there, but haven’t found anything unusual yet.”
"The driver was prepared for this, so I don't think he would implicate his family."
"However, our people are already 'working'."
Huo Beichen remained silent.
His biggest worry was that Zeze was already... no, there was absolutely no such possibility.
He wouldn't let that happen.
“Mr. Huo,” another assistant said as he approached, “Young Master Lin has called several times, saying he wants to see Dr. Hua.”
"Where is Dr. Hua?" Huo Beichen asked.
The assistant looked in a certain direction.
Following his gaze, Huo Beichen saw Hua Fei squatting under a tree not far away.
Wisps of smoke drifted out from time to time.
