"It hasn't been that long since we last met, and you already miss me?" a teasing voice rang out.
It is Lin Zhibai.
She immediately pulled away from his embrace, frowning. "I have something to tell you."
“Come with me.” He took her hand and led her through the crowd.
Finally, they reached a quiet alley behind the building. She pulled her hand away from his and said, "Let's talk here."
He looked ahead: "There's a small courtyard over there, it's very quiet, you'll definitely like it..."
“You must withdraw your marriage proposal,” she interrupted him, “or you will face the consequences.”
"Oh?" He raised an eyebrow, stepped forward, and stood in front of her. "What would be the consequences of marrying you?"
"I'll probably spend a little more time in bed each day..."
"Lin Zhibai!" she interrupted him angrily, her beautiful eyes burning with rage. "Be serious."
She hesitated, biting her lip. "Let me tell you, I..."
Just then, Lin Zhibai's phone rang.
The courage that Gu Fanyan had finally mustered to speak immediately vanished.
Lin Zhibai answered the phone casually: "What is it?"
His expression immediately changed. "You're all useless! Get me some more!"
Gu Fanyan paused in confusion, then asked, "What's wrong?"
Lin Zhibai looked at her seriously: "I'll have my assistant take you home right away. Stay home for the next two days and don't go anywhere."
He took her hand and started walking forward.
She dragged her feet, not moving an inch. "I'm not going anywhere until you explain yourself clearly."
Lin Zhibai said helplessly, "Sheng Xin's mental state is a bit abnormal. I originally sent someone to keep an eye on her, but she climbed out of the window on the 11th floor and ran away."
Climbing out of an 11th-floor window—that takes a lot of determination to escape!
Gu Fanyan understood: "You're afraid she'll run away and hurt me?"
Lin Zhibai reached out and touched the top of her head: "I won't let her hurt you."
Her heart skipped a beat as she felt the warmth of his hand.
But she knew in her heart that she couldn't cling to this warmth.
She tilted her head, dodging his hand, and a mocking smile appeared on her lips: "It's understandable that she wants to hurt me, but whether she can succeed is another matter."
She took a step forward.
She was not afraid of Sheng Xin.
She drove away on her own.
However, she had mustered up the courage to ask him to meet her tonight to say those words.
But I was interrupted by his phone call, and I don't know when I'll be able to say it again.
As she drove, she pondered the situation and finally decided that she had to make things clear tonight.
That way he can give up the idea of getting married.
Many problems can then be easily solved.
She picked up the phone, about to call Lin Zhibai, when Yun Suiwan's call suddenly came in.
"Sister Fanyan, come here quickly," Yun Suiwan's calm voice betrayed her barely concealed anxiety, "Auntie and Lin Zhibai are both injured!"
...
Yun Suiwan and Lu Dongjue were already waiting outside the emergency room.
Yun Suiwan told herself to stay calm and composed, but her shoulders still couldn't help trembling.
Lu Dongjue held her tightly and comforted her softly, "It'll be alright, don't be afraid."
A series of hurried footsteps suddenly rang out.
Gu Fanyan's anxious figure came into Yun Suiwan's view.
Yun Suiwan's eyes stung with tears, and she immediately went to greet Gu Fanyan.
"Wanwan..." Gu Fanyan gripped her hand tightly, "What happened?"
“It’s Sheng Xin, it’s…” Yun Suiwan couldn’t speak, her throat was stinging with pain.
Lu Dongjue walked over, his tone slightly calmer: "This is what happened..."
After Yun Suiwan finished chatting with Gu's mother at the coffee shop, she had just stepped outside when Sheng Xin suddenly rushed out and stabbed Gu's mother with a knife.
She acted like a madwoman, disregarding everything, but fortunately Lin Zhibai rushed forward.
Immediately afterwards, Lin Zhibai and his men subdued Sheng Xin, but Lin Zhibai had already been cut in several places.
Gu's mother suffered a knife wound to her abdomen, and her condition is critical; she is currently undergoing emergency treatment.
Gu Fanyan's face gradually lost its color, and she almost couldn't stand up.
"Sister Fanyan! Hang in there!" Yun Suiwan hugged her tightly. "Auntie will be alright!"
"Fan Yan!" A hoarse male voice rang out; Gu's father had arrived. Worry and anxiety made him appear ten years older in an instant.
“Dad…” Gu Fanyan burst into tears in his arms.
"Dad, I'm so sorry, Mom..." Gu Fanyan realized, "She wanted to stab me..."
Sheng Xin must have thought that the person she met with Yun Suiwan at the coffee shop was her, which is why she was waiting outside the door.
Mr. Gu patted her shoulder, unable to say anything.
The lights in the emergency room were always on.
Gu Fanyan squatted by the bench, her mind blank.
Yun Suiwan quietly stayed by her side.
Mr. Gu remained calm, suppressing his anxiety, and dealt with related matters from time to time.
At this moment, the assistant stepped forward and whispered to Mr. Gu, "Young Master Lin's wound has been treated. Fortunately, it didn't hit any vital organs."
Yun Suiwan's eyelids twitched a few times. She was so worried about Gu's mother and Gu Fanyan that she almost forgot that Lin Zhibai was also injured and was being treated in the emergency room on the first floor.
But judging from Gu Fanyan's absent-minded look, she definitely can't care about Lin Zhibai right now.
Her eyes met Lu Dongjue's. She wanted to ask him to go see Lin Zhibai, but then she saw an assistant pushing Lin Zhibai toward them.
Lu Dongjue stepped forward and took the wheelchair from him. "How are you?" he asked.
"It's nothing." Lin Zhibai shook his head, his gaze fixed on the distance.
Gu Fanyan squatted by the chair, like a pitiful kitten that had been abandoned.
His heart skipped a beat, and he immediately stood up.
Lu Dongjue frowned: "Are you sure you can do it?"
Lin Zhibai paused slightly, and it did hurt a little as soon as he moved his feet.
But then he acted as if nothing had happened and went straight to Gu Fanyan's side.
"Sister Fanyan..." he called softly.
Gu Fanyan snapped out of her daze, raised her face, and stared blankly for a moment before she could make out his face.
Her eyes suddenly reddened, filled with grievance, helplessness, and confusion... but soon she lowered her head and looked away.
Lin Zhibai squatted down beside her, stretched out an arm, and put his arm around her shoulder.
She felt herself enveloped in warmth, which temporarily relieved her trembling and helplessness.
She greedily didn't push it away.
"I'm sorry," he said softly, his voice filled with self-reproach, "I should have gotten there sooner..."
Gu Fanyan didn't answer; her mind was blank.
Finally, the emergency room indicator light went out.
Gu Fanyan was the first to see it. She got up and headed towards the door, but after taking only a few steps, she felt a wave of dizziness.
Lin Zhibai's strong hand supported her from behind.
She had been squatting for too long and then stood up too suddenly.
"Doctor, how did the surgery go?" Yun Suiwan asked as she stepped forward.
"It was a success. Thanks to the timely arrival, the injured person is now out of danger."
Gu Fanyan then felt as if she had surfaced from the deep pool and could breathe freely again.
Gu's mother was still unconscious and was sent to the intensive care unit.
Gu's father's health was failing, so Gu Fanyan asked her assistant to take him to the hospital's oxygen room to get some oxygen. Then she arranged for a nanny to take care of Gu's mother.
I finally finished my work, and it was already dawn outside the window.
"You should rest for a while," Yun Suiwan said, bringing her breakfast. "I asked the doctor, and Aunt Gu will have to wait until the anesthesia wears off completely before she can wake up, which will probably take another six hours."
Gu Fanyan nodded, her mind now fully clear. "Wanwan, you and Dongjue go back and rest. I can handle things here."
Yun Suiwan looked around and said, "Where's Lin Zhibai? I haven't seen him for a while."
