She hugged her two children tightly, unsure whether she was happy or sad.
After having breakfast with the children, she asked Zeze to take her younger brother upstairs to play, while she went to the back garden.
Everyone near the greenhouse had left, except for the assistant who had spoken to her last night.
"Madam." The assistant approached at her signal.
"Where is he?" she asked.
"As per Mr. Huo's instructions, the person was sent away at 6 a.m.," the assistant replied.
"Where was it sent?" she then asked.
The assistant shook his head. "President Huo sent another group of people to handle it, so I don't know. But what's certain is that she's no longer in the country at this point."
Hua Fei wasn't surprised. Huo Beichen's style was to act decisively and without leaving a trace.
She may never see Sun Xiaowei again in this lifetime.
"Does Huo Beichen know that I met with Sun Xiaowei last night?" she asked.
The assistant shook his head. "It's pointless, isn't it, Madam?"
Hua Fei felt a sharp pain in her heart, and for a moment she couldn't breathe.
But she had to admit that her assistant was right.
It's pointless.
The person is gone.
Revealing the truth will only cause unnecessary heartache, and will serve no other purpose.
"Madam, please accept my condolences." the assistant said in a low voice.
Hua Fei composed herself. "It's impossible not to be sad... but I'm very fortunate..."
"So many people care about me, Huo Beichen, Gu Fanyan... They wove a lie just to keep me from being hurt."
"I need to live a happy life so as not to let them down."
The assistant nodded. "If President Huo knew that you thought this way, he would feel much more at ease."
Hua Fei took a few steps forward and sorted out some of her thoughts.
"Huo Beichen... have you been living in constant fear these days?" she asked.
"You can't say that... but it's not far off," the assistant replied. "Actually, the company has encountered some crises in the past few years, but President Huo has never been this nervous as he has been these past few days."
Hua Fei sighed, "Is he worried that I'll leave...? Now that things have come to this, I can't possibly leave Zeze and Liang Mufan behind."
Although Liang Mufan is not her biological son, wouldn't it be too cruel to tell him this fact now?
She couldn't do something like that.
"Actually..." the assistant hesitated.
"What?" Hua Fei looked at him.
The assistant had no choice but to finish his sentence: "Actually, since you came back, Mr. Huo has been like a completely different person."
"How did it change?" she asked.
"I'm just much happier," the assistant replied.
"Was he unhappy before?" she asked, her tone somewhat dismissive.
“No,” the assistant sighed heavily, “It’s not just unhappiness, it’s like living the life of an ascetic.”
"Besides work, he only works. He turns down all unnecessary social engagements. When he has free time, he often goes to temples."
Hua Fei was slightly taken aback. "A temple? What for?"
"Plate, wipe walls, clean... isn't that just cleaning the environment of the temple? But Mr. Huo said that only when he is doing these things can he stop thinking about the past and the future."
“What’s there to think about in his future?” Hua Fei curled her lip slightly. “If I hadn’t come back, he could have easily married the eldest daughter of the Sun family and expanded his company even further…”
“Madam, don’t you understand?” the assistant couldn’t help but interrupt, “For Mr. Huo, having your past is what makes him alive. If you are not in his future, he is not truly alive at all.”
Hua Fei was taken aback, unsure whether Huo Beichen had taught her these words or if her assistant had simply remarked from experience.
But thinking about it, there's no point in Huo Beichen trying to please her.
She couldn't offer Huo Beichen any benefits either.
She continued walking slowly forward.
The assistant, still somewhat anxious, caught up, "Madam, don't you believe what I'm telling you?"
Hua Fei thought for a moment, "I believe it or I don't. Tell me, if Huo Beichen is only thinking about me, why has Sun Xiaowei been able to stay by his side all these years?"
"Madam, do you know why Miss Sun is so hostile towards you?" the assistant asked in return.
“Because… I took her place, Mrs. Huo’s position,” Hua Fei replied.
"No, it's because of you that she has never had the chance to be Mrs. Huo."
"She understood this, which is why she has been trying to find ways to deal with you."
“You had a falling out with President Huo before, which allowed Sun Xiaowei to take advantage of the situation, and President Huo lost track of you.”
"But Mr. Huo's intuition is that Sun Xiaowei got rid of you. He kept her by his side in order to find you."
"But you're so heartless! You haven't contacted Mr. Huo even once. Do you know that Mr. Huo's private phone has never been turned off? He's just afraid that he won't be able to answer your calls!"
Hua Fei was a little surprised. Assistant, was she being criticized?
"Madam, perhaps there was some misunderstanding between you and Mr. Huo before, but Mr. Huo has never been ruthless towards you, has he?"
"But you're so heartless, leaving just like that..."
"Assistant Li!" Huo Beichen's voice suddenly rang out.
The assistant and Hua Fei were both stunned, not expecting him to appear so suddenly.
"Assistant Li, go to the company and find the finance department to settle your salary." Huo Beichen walked forward with a cold face.
Assistant Li left, her face pale.
Hua Fei glanced at Huo Beichen, said nothing, and turned to continue walking forward.
“Nanyin…” Huo Beichen caught up, his voice a little nervous.
Hua Fei asked, "Are you trying to tell me not to listen to his nonsense?"
Huo Beichen nodded.
Hua Fei then asked, "So what he said, like 'you miss me,' was all a lie."
“No…” he quickly replied.
“So he wasn’t talking nonsense,” Hua Fei continued. “Since he wasn’t talking nonsense, why did you let him go?”
"I..." He was speechless for a moment.
After a moment, he realized, "I told him to leave because he said something he shouldn't have."
“Oh, then who should say these things to me?” she asked.
“I should be the one talking to you,” he replied, a blush creeping across his cheeks.
Hua Fei found it both funny and infuriating. "When are we going to wait until you tell me yourself?"
Huo Beichen was slightly taken aback. He didn't understand why her words seemed to have a deeper meaning.
However, Huafei has already taken a step forward.
She walked into the garden and stood beside Huo Beichen's car.
"Huo Beichen, take me somewhere," she said.
Huo Beichen was naturally happy to oblige.
However, he did not expect that she would let him drive to the temple he had taken her to before.
His expression changed slightly. "You still want to calm down? The results are already out."
She didn't say anything, but asked the monks at the temple for a rag to wipe the dust, and gave one to Huo Beichen.
"Take me with you to help with the plastering. You're pretty good at this, aren't you?"
Her gaze was calm, and her tone was firm.
Huo Beichen couldn't deny it.
He could only lead her to a door and begin plastering.
The two remained silent, neither speaking, as they plastered the pores one by one, working together in perfect harmony.
Until the evening glow filled the sky.
She then spoke.
