Chapter 009

The bright sunlight shone through the main door of the house, cutting through the door frame and casting a blade-like shadow on the floor.

Ruan Xi sat next to the bright shadow with clear edges, holding a small piece of gray old cloth in her left hand, and a thin needle in her right hand, sewing back and forth on the old cloth in her left hand, with a big yellow cat lying at her feet.

The big yellow cat was full of sleep, so it got up, bent its back and stretched lazily, then went to the old tailor's feet, circled around his feet, and occasionally raised its head and meowed at him. The signal of this meow is extremely obvious, it means the cat is hungry and wants food.

It would catch mice by itself at night and go to the old tailor when it was hungry during the day.

The old tailor looked at the big yellow cat and snorted coldly: "You are such a scoundrel, what a waste of money!"

This big yellow cat is called Dami. He is the only companion in the old tailor’s life, or you can say, his companion in his later years. A man and a cat lived in this house. When the old tailor had nothing to do, he would hold the cat in his arms and sleep under the grape trellis, and talk to it.

But ever since Ruan Xi came to learn the craft, Da Mi has been sticking to Ruan Xi. When Ruan Xi was making something, it would either play with rags beside her or sleep at her feet. It would only wake up to look for the old tailor when it was hungry.

Hearing the old tailor's words, Ruan Xi lowered her eyebrows and smiled, then continued to sew.

After collecting the thread, she put down the scissors and needle and thread, took a few processed scraps of cloth and walked to the old tailor, smiling and said to him: "Master, I have made all the buttonholes you taught me, please take a look."

He handed them to him one by one, saying, "This is a flat buttonhole."

"This is a round buttonhole."

"This one is a rolled buttonhole."

"And this one, the eye socket is not open, it's a decorative buttonhole."

Although he would marvel in his heart every time he saw something Ruan Xi made, and this had happened quite often, the old tailor still couldn't help but marvel in his heart when he saw her make something new.

In his entire life, he had never seen such a talented person. He could tell at first glance that there was no trace of bragging in him. Not only can she learn it after just one look, but the things she makes are also not ugly and look very good.

But he didn't show it. After reading it, he just cleared his throat and said calmly, "Not bad."

Ruan Xi knew her level and could see that the old tailor was not sincere. She smiled and took back the buttonholes she had made. She said, "It's almost noon. I'm going home to eat first. I'll come back in the afternoon."

The old tailor leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes. "You're tired from running back and forth. Why don't you stay and eat with us?"

What? What did this old man just say?

Ruan Xi was stunned and even doubted his ears.

She blinked at the old tailor, her eyes slightly widening unconsciously, "What did you say?"

The old tailor looked impatient and said unhappily, "If you don't want to, leave!"

Ruan Xi never cared about his bad temper, and quickly smiled and said, "Yes, yes, of course."

If she stayed for dinner, she could not only save food for the family, but also eat some good food. Why wouldn't she want to? She knew very well how comfortable the old tailor's life was.

Of course, the reason why the old tailor could live such a comfortable life, besides the fact that he was the only tailor on Fengming Mountain, was that he was the only one in his family and he didn't have to support a large family.

Because there are fewer people in the family and we don’t need to eat much, we can live a much more comfortable life than others.

Of course Ruan Xi also knew that if the old tailor invited her to dinner, he would not cook for her himself. He probably wanted her to stay and cook for him. He got a break and she got to have a meal, and no one felt at a disadvantage.

So Ruan Xi didn't carry the yellow schoolbag, but turned around and went into the kitchen to wash rice.

Even without the memories of her original body, cooking is not a difficult task for Ruan Xi. She usually likes to think about food on her own after work. Cooking is one of her hobbies, and she has studied various cuisines.

With the original body's more than ten years of life experience and having operated it a few times, Ruan Xi has learned how to use a wood stove. She washed the rice and lit a fire to steam it. Da Mi came in through the door frame and sat next to her.

Ruan Xi petted the cat while steaming rice.

After the rice had drained the last of its juice, she got up and went out to the garden to pick vegetables.

I picked four green peppers, a loofah, and also plucked two green onions.

I went back to the kitchen to wash and cut the vegetables, destemmed the green peppers, peeled the loofah, chopped the green onions, smashed a few cloves of garlic and minced them, then made a sauce with the existing seasonings and beat two eggs into a bowl.

Although the old tailor always had a bad face, spoke harshly and unpleasantly, and could not get along with others, he was not completely unkind. When Ruan Xi prepared the food, he came into the house and went to light the fire behind the stove.

Ruan Xi stretched her head to look at him, smiled, and said nothing.

She was afraid that what she said would embarrass him, so he threw the firewood stick to the ground and stopped lighting the fire for her.

Of course, she could also light the fire and cook at the same time, but it would be troublesome, so it would be better to have someone to help her.

Heat the iron pan, Ruan Xi pours the green pepper into the pan, stir-frying until the skin of the pepper becomes wrinkled, and adds a little oil to the pan from time to time. When the green pepper has more wrinkles on its skin, add the minced garlic and stir-fry until fragrant. Then pour in the prepared sauce and remove from the heat.

Because there was no range hood, the smell of food filled the entire house, making the old tailor drool.

After Ruan Xi finished making tiger-skin green peppers, she also fried some loofah and eggs.

She herself felt a little greedy when she smelled the food. After all, she hadn't eaten a single hot dish since she came here. Now there are two delicious dishes in front of me, my mouth is watering and my appetite is whetted. I feel like I can eat two large bowls of rice.

Of course, there wasn't that much rice for her to eat.

Two hot dishes were served. Ruan Xi served himself the rice, picked up his chopsticks, and sat down at the table with the old tailor. After the old tailor tasted the fried egg with loofah, she looked at him and asked, "Master, how is it?"

The old tailor swallowed the fried egg and loofah and cleared his throat, and said again: "Not bad."

In fact, his eyes and facial expressions had already betrayed him.

Ruan Xi smiled and didn't expose him, and put a tiger-skin green pepper into her bowl.

She can also eat spicy food, so the spiciness of the green pepper is no problem for her.

The old tailor took another bite of the tiger-skin green pepper, and the light in his eyes, as if he had eaten something delicious, became even more obvious. He didn't expect that Ruan Xi not only learned the skills quickly and skillfully, but also could cook such delicious dishes.

He usually made clothes for others and was invited to their homes as a treat. He had eaten many people's meals and could even eat pork at the end of the year. But no matter which restaurant’s dishes are cooked, none are as delicious as Ruan Xi’s.

After taking a bite of fried loofah with eggs and a bite of tiger-skin green pepper, the old tailor's eyes lit up. He no longer put on airs in front of Ruan Xi, but started to wolf down the food with chopsticks in his hand.

Ruan Xi didn't compete with him. She held the chopsticks and ate slowly with a satisfied smile on her face.

After dinner, the old tailor was in a very good mood. He even hummed a little tune while lying under the grape trellis.

Ruan Xi listened to the little tune he hummed while washing the pots and dishes, then lay down on the sewing machine to rest for a while.

In the afternoon, she learned some new things from the old tailor, but the old tailor changed his mind every now and then and suddenly said that teaching her was too fast. He also said that teaching an apprentice would starve him to death, and he refused to teach her more.

Ruan Xi thought for a moment, looked at him and asked, "You don't want me to finish my apprenticeship so soon, so you want me to cook for you, right?"

The old tailor's face was sullen after his thoughts were exposed. He blew his beard and said unhappily, "Do I look like someone who has never bought food in his eight lifetimes? I said I won't teach you today, so I won't teach you. If you don't want to cook, you can go back and eat at noon tomorrow."

Ruan Xi looked at him and smiled, "Then I will go back today and come back to cook for you tomorrow."

The old tailor stroked his goatee and snorted, "It doesn't matter if you come or not."

Ruan Xi felt like she was coaxing a child: "Don't worry! I will definitely come!"

After saying that, she went to get her schoolbag and put it on. However, when she was about to leave, the old tailor suddenly called her. She turned around in confusion, only to see the old tailor picking a bunch of grapes from under the grape trellis.

He came over with the grapes, handed them to Ruan Xi and said, "I am too old to eat them. They are so sour that they hurt my teeth. Take them."

Ruan Xi was a little flattered and was stunned for a moment, "Give it... give it to me?"

The old tailor threw the grapes directly into her hand and turned away.

Cool!

Ruan Xi looked at the grapes in her hand and then at the old tailor, and shouted in a clear voice: "Thank you, Master!"

Walking on the mountain path on the way home, Ruan Xi took a grape from his schoolbag, peeled it and squeezed it into his mouth. She thought the grapes would make her teeth sour, but unexpectedly they were sweet and not sour at all.

She opened her eyes slightly and tasted another one. It was still sweet!

Ruan Xi savored the sweetness in her mouth with surprise - this master is really capable!

She felt happy and sweet in her heart, but she didn't taste it any more. She planned to take the grapes home and eat them with Ruan Zhigao, Liu Xinghua, Ruan Changsheng and Ruan Jie, so that everyone could taste the sweet flavor together.

However, before she reached home, she saw Ling Yao reading a book and herding pigs on the hillside.

Not far from Ling Yao were Gao Haiyang and his group of idiots. They didn't beat Ling Yao today, but everyone held a handful of stones in their hands and threw them at Ling Yao, teasing him, "Say something, you fool!"

Ling Yao was concentrating on reading his book, as if he didn't hear anything.

Ruan Xiping held her breath, pointed at Gao Haiyang and his gang and shouted: "What are you doing? Are you looking for death?"

Seeing Ruan Xi, Gao Haiyang and his gang didn't dare to say anything more. They turned around and ran away.

Ruan Xi could see that it must be Ruan Changsheng who had warned them.

After driving away Gao Haiyang and his gang, Ruan Xi walked towards Ling Yao.

Ling Yao stood up from the stone with the book in his hand and said to her, "Thank you."

Ruan Xi's legs were sore from walking so she sat on a rock and looked up at him. "If they bully you again, tell me and I'll ask Uncle Wu to beat them up. I guarantee they won't even dare to laugh at you."

Ling Yao said: "They didn't beat me today."

As he said this, he sat down next to Ruan Xi and looked at the pigs not far away.

Ruan Xi looked at the book in his hand curiously and asked him, "What books are you reading?"

Hearing the voice, Ling Yao turned around and handed the book in his hand to Ruan Xi.

Ruan Xi opened it and took a look. She recognized most of the Chinese characters, but she had no idea what it said.

She subconsciously frowned and squinted her eyes with doubt: "This..."

"Oh." Ling Yao thought that she had not been to school much and could only recognize a few words, so he explained: "This is physics."

Ruan Xi laughed dryly twice. Of course she knew that this was physics. She also studied high school physics, right?

She asked Ling Yao: "How old are you?"

Ling Yao said: "Born in 1960."

Ruan Xi calculated that he was thirteen years old now.

At the age of thirteen, reading physics, which is like a mystery? Although she couldn't understand it, she could tell that it was beyond the depth of high school physics.

Ruan Xi smiled and cautiously asked, "Do you understand what is written in the book?"

Ling Yao: "Well, it's very simple."

Ruan Xi: “…”

good. All right.
