Chapter 14: Conquering the Bear Tribe

"Let's go!" Although it was still cold, winter was almost over. We organized a large group of thirty people and brought enough weapons. It was time to set out to fight against the damn bear tribe.

Do fighting require only able-bodied men and women? Of course not. Underage men and women like Shan Yao, Tie Dan, Du Ji, Ju, He, and Lan, who possess sufficient offensive power, are also good "warriors."

Shuichong was lame after all, and even with a cane, it was still difficult for him to move around in the snow and ice. So, Ma Yue, quite pretentiously, appointed Shuichong as the second-in-command of the Sea Tribe, to lead the elderly and weak who stayed behind.

Shuichong, heartbroken at not having participated in the expedition, was thrilled to hear he'd been appointed second-in-command. Ma Yue, the charlatan, had appointed him, effectively declaring him the supreme decree of the Sea Tribe. Who dared disobey? Besides, Shuichong was currently the most skilled stone-flying warrior, making him a truly capable individual.

There are still quite a few flying rocks and flying guns in the cave. With water bugs and some old and young people here, there should be no problem guarding the cave.

Under the personal leadership of the charlatan Ma Yue, the Hai tribe's expeditionary force set off.

The snow has just stopped. I guess this is the last snow of this winter.

Along the way, the warriors, still wearing their furs and clothing, and the bonfires lit by Ma Yue, the charlatan, helped them withstand the cold. They also brought plenty of salted fish, bacon, and two clay pots, so they could drink hot soup along the way, which helped them maintain their strength.

The team walked for three days and, led by two newly recovered members of the Bear Tribe, finally found the Bear Tribe's base camp.

"Horse! We can't get in!" When the team arrived, the people of the Bear Tribe blocked their caves with thick stone slabs. Are they primitive people? Is this how they defend themselves?

"Leave ten of you to block the cave entrance, and the rest of you go find firewood!"

There is strength in numbers. In less than half a day, a pile of firewood was collected.

Under Ma Yue's instructions, four or five strong men climbed to the top of the Bear Tribe cave. What were they doing?

A cave, you need a bonfire to keep warm. But a bonfire produces smoke, and there must be a few holes above the cave, otherwise you will suffocate and die of smoke.

Four or five Sea Tribe warriors climbed to the top of the cave, carried a few stones, and simply blocked the exhaust holes above the cave.

The 'warriors' of the Sea Tribe below lit torches and fanned smoke into the cave through the cracks in the stone slabs.

Damn it! If you don’t come out, I’ll suffocate you.

About thirty Sea Tribe 'warriors' were standing in front of the Bear Tribe's cave, ready for battle.

You may not have ever experienced the feeling of being smoked... The people of the Bear Tribe have experienced it. Not to mention the people of the Sea Tribe blowing smoke in, if you don’t light a fire in the cave, will there be no smoke?

Unless you want to freeze to death in a cave.

"Charge out!" The Bear Tribe gave an order. Dying in battle is better than dying of suffocation, right?

The first few warriors of the Bear Tribe who rushed out, including the most courageous leader, Bear, were hit by flying stones and spears, and several felled.

The fierce leader, 'Xiong', was struck by a flying spear and hit on the forehead by a flying rock, bleeding, yet he still rushed towards... Ma Yue, swinging his axe! He was truly fierce, worthy of being a leader.

Ma Yue wasn't stupid enough to challenge the strong primitive man. He just dodged the bear's axe with a light leap, then fired a spear, the tip of Ma Yue's bone spear accurately piercing the bear's neck.

With just one seemingly effortless blow, the strong leader, the bear, fell to the ground.

The Bear Tribe's "warriors" kept charging forward, watching their strongest leader being stabbed through the neck and his head ripped out alive... Under Ma Yue's prior instructions, Chief Hai shouted out in dialect, "Surrender" and "Don't kill"...

Wars and fights between tribes here seemed commonplace; otherwise, where would the market come from? Surrender after defeat seemed normal. Most importantly, the death of the Bear Tribe's chieftain was a shocking enough outcome.

Things went smoothly. Under the intimidation of the leader 'Xiong's' head hanging on the tip of Ma Yue's spear, the leader Hai's work of persuading him to surrender went much more smoothly.

The poor bear tribe lost seven or eight people in this conflict, and seven or eight more were lying on the ground, injured and wailing. There were only thirteen healthy adults left, and there were quite a few old and weak people left, as many as fifty or sixty.

After watching the somewhat capable captives from the Bear Tribe being tied up, the Sea Tribe's expeditionary force entered the Bear Tribe's cave. After walking for so long, they still needed to rest and recuperate.

As long as they weren't dead, they should be saved if possible. Seeing that the people of the Sea Tribe were still treating their own tribe's injured "warriors", many people in the Bear Tribe felt a little relieved.

I applied some juice from the rhizome of Panax notoginseng, and it seems to be able to stop bleeding and reduce inflammation.

That night, Ma Yue once again performed his magic of spiritual fire in the cave of the Sea Tribe, completely shocking all the men, women, and children of the Bear Tribe.

Ma Yue's cultivation gradually increased, and his spiritual fire became less monotonous. On a whim, Ma Yue unexpectedly condensed a spiritual fire in the shape of a small bear. It's unclear if the people of the Bear Tribe worshipped the Bear God, but upon seeing the spiritual fire condense into a small bear, everyone in the tribe immediately prostrated themselves at Ma Yue's feet.

This is good, so I don't have to do any ideological work. In primitive society, strength is everything, and a smooth surrender is best.

There were actually priests in the bear tribe. However, when the chief priest of the bear tribe saw the little bear condensed with spiritual fire, he simply knelt at Ma Yue's feet and kissed Ma Yue's shoes.

The power of gods and ghosts is bigger and more effective than fists.

Even though winter was almost over, it was still very cold outside. With so many people, young and old, migrating in such weather, it would be strange if most of them didn't freeze to death.

Ma Yue made a decision. Chief Hai took twenty able-bodied men from the Hai tribe back to the Hai tribe first. After all, most of the people there were old and young, and he was worried.

The remaining seven able-bodied men of the Sea Tribe (three warriors of the Sea Tribe also died in the battle) followed Ma Yuexian and stayed in the cave of the Bear Tribe.

'Hai' was a little worried, but Ma Yue was very insistent, so 'Hai' had to leave first.

The Bear Tribe has a very small adult population (due to heavy losses in the previous war between the Sea and Bear Tribes). Many of the fifty-somethings, young and old, have starved to death this winter. Food is severely scarce.

It doesn't matter!

At Ma Yue's call, the warriors left behind by the Sea Tribe, along with some thirteen warriors from the Bear Tribe who had completely surrendered, went out to the nearby glacier to break the ice and fish.

This novel fishing method greatly stimulated the enthusiasm of everyone in the Bear Tribe. Who wants to die when they can live? Only with food can we survive, right? Food is the most important resource for primitive people.

After a bountiful harvest of fish, the high priest of the Bear Tribe once again led his people to prostrate themselves at Ma Yue's feet.

The chief priest of the Bear Tribe completely abandoned his tribe's faith and led everyone to worship the great Sea God. Ma Yue said, "Are these all gifts from the Sea God?" As for the "Bear God" that his tribe believed in, he never granted any benefits, so why should he still believe in him?

People, especially primitive people, are just so practical. There's no other way; survival always comes first. And what's more, they're under the leadership of the great charlatan Ma Yue.
