Chapter 9 Coarse Salt

Today, Ma Yue can be said to be the number one person in the "Hai" tribe. He no longer needs to worry about other people's thoughts when doing something.

After ordering the man and woman he had bought, Ma Yue took the stone basin and two pottery basins from the tribe and led the man and woman straight to the beach.

There were trees near the cliff where the spiritual stone was. Putting down the stone basin and pottery basin, "Table" and "Chair" (the new names Ma Yue gave to the man and woman) picked up stone knives and began to harvest firewood.

Shi Pen got sea water from the sea and poured it into two ceramic basins. He lit firewood and kept boiling it. Ma Yue wanted to see what he could boil out.

Isn’t it faster to cook something than to dry it in the sun?

The sea water in the ceramic basin is gradually evaporating.

"Leave the particles at the bottom and pour out the remaining water." The remaining water, which was less than five centimeters high, did contain a lot of impurities.

"Keep pouring in sea water and keep boiling!"

Holy crap! This is coarse salt, right? Is it really toxic? It seems like when I was a kid, my family used this so-called "coarse-grain salt" to cook meat. It's not clean, but it doesn't seem to be toxic.

As for how to further produce white refined salt, Ma Yue really has no idea.

Okay, let's just use coarse salt. It's still salt after all, right? Having some salt to eat is good. Others aside, I'm a cultivator, at least a mid-level warrior. I wouldn't be poisoned by something in this coarse salt, right?

Besides, this tribe doesn’t even have a fine sieve or fine gauze. Even if I want to filter out impurities, I don’t have the opportunity or conditions, right?

After a busy day, Ma Yue made about a bowl of coarse salt and returned to the tribe's cave with the "table" and "chair".

The stone basin and pottery basin were the two most precious utensils in the tribe. Fortunately, they were not broken. The old primitive high priest and the chief breathed a sigh of relief.

"Salt?"

"Yes, this is salt." Ma Yue nodded. "Eating salt will give you strength, and food will taste better."

The old primitive chief priest and 'Hai' stared at the pottery bowl in Ma Yue's hand with sharp eyes. What the charlatan said could be wrong?

"Cook food!" Ma Yue ordered bluntly.

"Hmm!" The leader had no objection and wanted to try the effect of salt.

For dinner, two large earthenware basins of broth were cooked. Ma Yue estimated the amount of broth in the basins, sprinkled in some coarse salt, stirred it for a while, and tasted it. The salt content of coarse salt was of course different from that of refined salt, and it was a bit bland. He continued, sprinkling in some more coarse salt...

"good!"

"fragrant!"

"tasty!"

All the words of praise that primitive people could use came out. Salt is the most basic seasoning, it would be strange if it didn't smell good. The primitive people who enjoyed the delicious salt soup for the first time were very excited.

It's just a little impurity, it really won't be poisonous enough to kill you. Besides, primitive people have strong resistance.

"Poseidon!"

Great! With the emergence of the important food "salt", the old primitive high priest led the tribe to start the sacrifice again, shaking his head and looking excited.

Since the salt was usable, Ma Yue had a new idea. He couldn't count on his tribe's hunting team to live a happy life. If that didn't work out, he could trade the salt for food and tools. Didn't the "Niupi" tribe have any salt either?

Ma Yue summoned the old primitive high priest and chief Hai and expressed his ideas.

As experienced primitive people, they naturally knew the emergence of "salt" and its value to primitive people. The high priest and chief Hai naturally nodded happily.

"Two clay pots are too few! The salt produced is too little."

"Let's boil some salt first, and then take it to the Niupi tribe to trade for some pottery basins. Then we can get more people to participate in boiling salt."

"The wall of the Niupi tribe is good. It can protect us from wild beasts and enemies attacking us. It is safer. We should have one too."

Wait, it’s mainly Ma Yue who will say it again, and the old primitive high priest will agree with it. To execute it, the chief "Hai" and the hunting team will also be needed.

The next day, "Table" and "Chair", who were familiar with the salt-boiling business, continued to go to the beach, the old and weak continued to collect fruits and fish, and the leader "Hai" and the hunting team were the main force, collecting and cutting some tree trunks and branches to build the wall.

The wooden fence is very simple. A tree trunk about three meters thick is used to dig a hole or hammer it about half a meter into the ground to form the pillars of the fence. Several horizontal beams are tied between the two pillars with ropes.

The distance between them is about one or two meters, and they are connected with slightly tough vines or branches, which are firmly connected with woven ropes.

The construction of such a timber fence is very fast.

As for the brick and stone walls, Ma Yue didn't know if cement or anything like that existed in those days. A wooden wall could still keep out some wild animals, but even if an outsider tried to get in, it would be difficult. Of course, a wooden wall like this was most vulnerable to fire.

If someone from another tribe attacked, Ma Yue wouldn't be able to stop them if they used fire. These days, people still had to drill wood to make fire in the wild. How could burning something be that easy?

The tools are still too simple. It looks difficult to chop down a tree with a stone axe.

I've been cooking salt for the tables and chairs every day. Half a month has passed, and the salt harvest is pretty good. As for the fence, the current tools are enough.

Chief Hai was about to set off with the hunting team, bringing with him some coarse salt he had finally cooked, packed in animal hide bags. Ma Yue instructed them to bring back a few more people if possible, and also buy some delicate and practical tools like bone shovels.
