Chapter 2 The Roar of the Tribal Goddess

The primitive people gathered around the fire turned around in the direction where Xu Que had called out in response.

The leader, facing the entrance of the cave, made a few symbolic "roars" and gestures towards the shy and bewildered girl.

The girl then tiptoed toward the fire and sat down alone about two meters away from Xu Que.

The leader pointed at the girl, then started pointing at her clothes from head to toe, babbling incessantly.

Xu Que deliberately stretched out his ears and tried hard to listen for a long time, only understanding the words "roar" and "oppa oppa".

The chief looked at Xu Que, who had a blank look in his eyes, and then pointed to the animal skin clothes and skirts worn by each member of the tribe around the fire, gesturing back and forth to show them off.

"Ah! I finally understand! She designed and made all your clothes! And I've heard you all shout the word 'Hou' more than once. Could it be that her name is Hou?" Xu Que asked the chief and the tribe members by the campfire, as if seeking confirmation.

"Oppa Oppa!" The female chieftain and the tribe members nodded in unison to confirm.

"Uh! I'm speechless! Such a cute and beautiful girl, why did she have to be called 'Roar'? But to be fair, Roar's image, temperament, and clothing easily put you cavemen to shame!"

The tribe members around the campfire seemed to understand Xu Que's meaning this time, and they all cast envious and admiring glances at him.

Hou also sensed Xu Que's praise, and while bowing his head in embarrassment, he beamed with joy, like a flower secretly blooming.

While Xu Que was busy preparing the barbecue, she secretly moved a meter closer to him.

Xu Que cut the roasted lamb leg into equal pieces and distributed them to everyone around the fire.

The chief and tribe members enjoyed their meal while secretly praising Xu Que's excellent barbecue skills.

Hou, holding the meat, moved another meter closer to Xu Que when he wasn't paying attention.

After discovering that Xu Que did not dislike her behavior, she boldly nestled against him and sat down.

She even gently rested her head on his shoulder, as tenderly as the kitten in Xu Que's house before he transmigrated.

Xu Que treated her with courtesy and gently patted her on the head.

Hou seized the opportunity, grabbed Xu Que's head, and started searching for lice in the gaps of his hair.

Xu Que knew very well that this was an effective way for primitive people to strengthen their feelings for each other, so he didn't rush to break free until she yelled at him to stop. This was a way of showing her respect!

The moon hung in the sky, and the campfire burned brightly.

Xu Que slapped his forehead, suddenly remembering that there was still one thing he hadn't finished!

He got up and took out a stack of long, narrow leaves and dozens of thatch stems from the weeds behind him.

They wrapped the wild sheep fat, which no one liked to eat, in leaves, rolled it into a cylinder, and then tied it with thatch stems and leaves.

Insert a wick made of wild cotton into the middle, and a simple candle is made.

"Let's use this for lighting in the cave tonight!" Xu Que said to the primitive man who was yawning and dozing off around the fire.

Inside the cave, mischievous children played in the dark on the straw mats in the nursery.

Bats hung from the cave walls overhead, while rats and beetles scurried back and forth at your feet.

The entire cave was filled with the smell of a chicken farm.

Xu Que covered his mouth and nose and lit the candle he had just made.

They took out the previously processed mugwort leaves, mixed them with dried wild grass, and lit them to thoroughly disinfect the cave.

Bats, rats, and unidentified insects in the cave fled for their lives, driven away by the smoke from the mugwort.

Looking at the dark mass on the ground, Xu Que felt a chill run down his spine: "I really admire your physique and your skin that's resistant to mosquito bites! You can even live in this! I'm truly impressed! Your ability to adapt to the environment is really strong!"

After several tens of minutes of fumigation and disinfection, the entire cave was filled with the rich aroma of mugwort, and breathing it in made one feel refreshed.

The chief and the tribe members scrambled to put the insects killed by the smoke from the mugwort on the ground into their respective food bags.

Upon seeing this scene, Xu Que's eyes widened like bull's balls.

Before he could even speak, the chieftain opened his animal-hide food bag with a showy air, gesturing wildly as if to say, "Pure, natural, high-energy protein, very nutritious!"

Uncharacteristically, Hou pulled bundle after bundle of dry white cogongrass from the overgrown weeds outside the cave with her bare hands and spread them on her original straw mat.

Xu Que took the boning knife out of the system inventory and handed it to Hou: "Use this to cut! The grass leaves are very sharp, and it's easy to cut your palms if you pull them out by force!"

Hou smiled and shook her head, holding out her hands for Xu Que to see, intending to prove that her hands were perfectly fine after pulling so many weeds.

Seeing a girl doing these things, Xu Que felt a pang of guilt: "Let me help you!"

Hou shook his head, turned around and pushed Xu Que, who was following behind to help, back into the cave.

The chief nudged Xu Que with his finger, gestured with his hands, and then pointed at Hou's retreating figure: "She's a very capable girl! She's the future hope of our tribe! See those paintings on the cave wall? She created them all by herself, and this animal skin food bag..."

Xu Que leaned closer and realized, "Isn't this the famous human-faced fish pattern? Over here are images of various animals, such as cows, sheep, and horses. And there's also the dark brown abalone that everyone often eats..."

Just as Xu Que was observing whether the primitive abalone had leg hair, the chief nudged him again: "I have something to give you as a greeting gift! I hope it will protect you when we go hunting tomorrow morning!"

The leader carefully took out a pair of her own special underpants, made of animal hide and passed down through generations for centuries, from under a stone slab. She handed them to Xu Que.

Xu Que accepted the gift that the leader had kept hidden away, his jaw nearly dropping to the ground in astonishment: "It is indeed a good item! But it's made of animal hide, which is too stiff and prickly to wear next to the skin. Even if you have a copper spear and steel balls, you would probably get blisters after walking only a few steps! Not to mention me, a modern human who has evolved for thousands of years and has delicate skin!"

Xu Que swallowed twice and politely declined, carefully returning it to the leader's hand.

The chief seemed to understand Xu Que's predicament, and carefully put it back in its original place and covered it with the stone slab.

The other members of the tribe, after much commotion, eventually fell asleep. The sounds of teeth grinding, snoring, and farting echoed throughout the cave.

The chieftain yawned, stretched, and lay down on his straw mat, closing his eyes.

Xu Que found a random open space inside the cave, sat cross-legged, and prepared to make do for the night and make further plans when dawn broke.

Hou blinked its big eyes and came to Xu Que's side, gesturing with its hands. In other words, it said, "You know what? I spent all that time making your bed, how could you sit on the floor like that?"

Xu Que looked at the sincere look in Hou's eyes, but hesitated, as it would be too formal to refuse again!

He awkwardly went to the bedside to look for a pillow. The man, however, didn't treat him like a stranger. After gesturing again, he stretched out his arm, which, in Mandarin, meant: "Don't bother looking! The pillow's right here!"

Xu Que braced himself, threw his head back on the pillow, bent his elbow, covered himself with the large quilt made of wild goat skin, and pulled him into sleep.
