Xu Que opened the system's exchange shop and, gritting his teeth, exchanged for a multi-functional, maintenance-free, single-person handheld logging saw, an axe, and a multi-functional power drill.
He exchanged all the currency he needed, then shrugged, saying with a hint of despair, "Damn it! I finally managed to save up over a thousand exchange coins, and now I'm back to square one, all gone!"
Hou dipped the semi-solidified leaves containing beast blood into writing materials, a twig pen, and thin stone fragments, then put them into a leather food bag. He slung the food bag over his shoulder, took Xu Que's hand, and walked out of the cave.
Hagang and the Julu tribe members had been waiting for a long time in the open space outside the cave.
They arrived at the edge of the primeval forest, a place teeming with pine and cypress trees of all sizes.
Xu Que took out an axe from the system warehouse and used it to split an inverted trapezoidal notch around the bottom of a tree trunk that was about the thickness of a bowl. Then he took out a logging saw and felled the tree with a few quick slashes.
Hagang dragged the fallen pine tree aside, tore off the excess branches with his bare hands, then ripped off the bark with a few swipes, and said to the surrounding primitives, "Now we can take it back to the tribe!"
Xu Que turned his head and originally wanted to tell Ha Gang that it was better not to peel the bark off the pine trees used for the fence, but seeing that Ha Gang had already peeled them, he decided to leave it as it was!
To increase efficiency, he stopped using an axe to make cuts around the tree trunk and started sawing directly.
Ha Gang continued to clear away excess branches and peel off bark by hand.
Other members of the Giant Deer tribe helped transport the goods to the Black Stone tribe.
Hou sat on a dry tree root not far from their work site and continued drawing stone tablets for the commemorative album.
In less than an hour, Xu Que sawed down nearly fifty trees, leaving him with a sore back and aching waist!
Ha Gang took the axe from Xu Que.
Following Xu Que's method, he cut an inverted trapezoid around the tree trunk, then used an iron-mountain-leaning stance to ram the pine tree, and the tree fell to the ground with a crash!
Although the joints of the tree trunks are not very neat, they are already very good for use as fences for livestock pens!
Xu Que suggested that Ha Gang take the logging saw, as it would be less strenuous.
Ha Gang shook his head, indicating that he wasn't used to that thing!
Xu Que watched as Ha Gang knocked down the tree faster than he could saw it down himself, and for a moment he felt that everyone except Ha Gang was superfluous.
He sneaked away when no one was looking and went to the place where Hou was sitting on the tree root drawing.
Seeing Xu Que dragging his tired body towards them, Hou quickly got into position, stretched out one of his legs and patted it: "Take a nap here! You're too tired!"
Xu Que lay down on the lush green grass, resting his head on his thigh.
Hou put the stone tablet album aside, picked half a blade of dry grass from the surrounding area, and began cleaning Xu Que's ear while holding half of his face.
This scooping motion lulled him into a dream.
When he opened his eyes again, Hagang had already chopped down the surrounding pine trees and piled them up like mountains.
Xu Que yawned contentedly, stretched, and felt that there was more than enough timber to build the enclosure fence, so he waved to Ha Gang to stop cutting.
Xu Que then took Ha Gang back to the Black Stone Tribe, where he sharpened one end of a piece of wood with an axe.
Let Hagang hold the unsharpened end and stick it into the ground.
Xu Que sharpened three sticks in a row, and Ha Gang also planted three sticks in the ground.
Just as Xu Que was about to shave the fourth one, Ha Gang stopped him: "I can bury this one in the ground without shaving it!"
Xu Que wiped the sweat from his forehead and glared at Ha Gang: "Why didn't you say you could press it in sooner! I spent so much time cutting it, it's exhausting!"
Ha Gang sniffled, "I didn't understand what 'sharpening' meant before, but I get it now! It means driving these pieces of wood, one next to the other, into the ground around the edge of the land we've cleared, right?"
Xu nodded and gave Ha Gang a thumbs up.
"Hmm! This is easy!" Ha Gang said, then grabbed a pine tree about the size of a bowl next to him and started stabbing it into the ground with both hands at the same time, as easily as a farmer planting rice seedlings in a paddy field.
In just a few minutes, a large area that had been cleared was surrounded by Ha Gang all by himself.
The basic structure of the enclosure for raising wild animals has been completed.
"I think we should find a big rock and smash it down on top of this to make the wood sink deeper into the soil. That will make it more sturdy and durable!" Xu Que said to Ha Gang, pointing to the exposed end of the wood.
Without a word, Ha Gang swung his fist, as big as a tiger's head, and struck each piece of wood two or three times, like banging a drum. This attack got the wood just the right depth of soil in it!
At the current rate of Hagang's construction, it wouldn't take more than a few days to build an entire wooden house for all the tribe members!
Upon closer inspection, this primitive tribe doesn't have cement or nails; they can only build houses using mortise and tenon joints. Just drilling holes in the wood will take a long time, so it seems they really can't finish in a short time! Although Hagang is said to have superhuman strength, no matter how strong he is, he can't possibly use his fingers as a drill in the wood, can he? He'll have to drill each hole himself! The workload is quite daunting!
Before it got dark, Xu Que used a multi-functional power drill to drill four or five rows of holes in a row of about ten logs, using saplings of iron birch about 2 centimeters in diameter as axles to connect all the logs. He then drilled another row of holes in the middle using a left- or right-slanted vertical method, using iron birch logs about 2 centimeters in diameter to connect them. This formed a stable triangle with the bottom or top sections! And just like that, the gate to an animal enclosure was completed!
Xu Que finally sawed off two pieces of round wood, drilled holes in both the wood and the door, and inserted the tiny tenons into the mortises. A door handle was now complete!
Ha Gang grabbed the round wooden doorknob, lifted the door up, and compared it to the pre-done doorway. It was just the right size!
Taking advantage of his excitement, Xu Que went all out and directly used mortise and tenon joints to make the door pier!
The door piers also use mortise and tenon joints, fixed at both ends to a piece of wood driven into the ground.
Finally, Ha Gang lifted the door, aligned the hinges with the eyelets on the top and bottom of the door pier, and installed it, completing the single-leaf door.
I turned it on and off a few times, and it creaked and groaned without any problems.
When Xu Que saw Hou and Hua coming over to watch, he suddenly remembered that he had said he would give her a pair of wooden clogs worn by Japanese devils!
"Do you still want those wooden clogs that the Japanese devils wore? If you do, I'll make you a pair right now! Those flat sneakers that Hou wore are gone forever!" Xu Que said to Hua, the chief of the Black Stone Tribe.
Hua glanced at Hou, then nodded to Xu Que: "Sure! I'll like anything you give me!"
