Nostoc commune is a complex community in which most algal filaments are encased together. The algal filaments are single-celled, unbranched, curved, and intertwined, and the cells are nearly spherical. The plant body is wrinkled and flaky, black when dry and brittle, and brownish-yellow or olive-green and soft when moist. The gum sheath is layered and brownish-yellow. The spores have smooth, colorless, elliptical outer walls and are the same size as the vegetative cells.
Resembling wood ear fungus in shape, it is dark green in color, semi-transparent like a sheet of rice flour, and has a crisp, smooth, and tender texture. The whole plant can be used medicinally. It has a sweet and bland taste and is cool in nature. It is mainly used to treat red and swollen eyes, night blindness, burns, chronic dysentery, and rectal prolapse. It is also very nutritious. Fresh algae can be eaten directly, or dried and stored for later use.
"Here! Try this! It's pretty good!" Xu Que said, handing a bunch of wild vegetables he had just picked up from the ground to Hou.
Hou looked at Xu Que with a surprised and curious gaze, took the soft and fresh ground clover, put it in his mouth, and found it soft and tender, melting with a gentle chew!
