Chapter 344 Suspicion
Chang Hao was skeptical. He removed Hongjun's hand, knowing he wouldn't speak carelessly and harboring doubts about the man's words.
He's new here and needs to figure things out carefully first.
"My son, you've just been born, have some water to calm your nerves first." Hongjun picked up the Three Lights Divine Water that had been prepared beforehand.
Chang Hao's body is now heavily sealed, and apart from his innate divine strength, he appears to be a human.
Having the Three Lights Divine Water readily available is just right for constantly cleansing away impurities and nourishing the spirit and body, preventing the spiritual energy from stagnating in the meridians due to a prolonged lack of circulation in the Greater and Lesser Heavenly Circuits.
"After you finish your water, there will be lotus seed soup for you to enjoy." Hongjun was well-prepared; the lotus seeds were no ordinary lotus seeds, the soup was no ordinary soup, and the person who cooked it was the patriarch of the art of cooking.
Chang Hao clenched his small fist and noticed that the water surface was faintly colored. Could this water be poisonous?
Hongjun brought the jade cup to Chang Hao's lips. Chang Hao pursed his lips and raised his hand to try to take the almost transparent jade cup from his lips.
"Alright, alright, you can drink it yourself." Hongjun thought that Chang Hao had always been opinionated since childhood, so he went along with Chang Hao's wishes and handed him the jade cup.
Chang Hao took the jade cup, looked at his wide sleeves, and rubbed the fabric of his clothes with his fingertips to determine that the quality was fine. Then, under the cover of his sleeves, he pretended to drink the water, but in reality, he poured it all into his sleeves.
Just when Chang Hao thought his little trick was flawless, Hongjun quickly grabbed the sleeve that Chang Hao was using to catch water.
Chang Hao was numb, that's it, he got caught red-handed.
"Look at you, I told you I'd do it, but you insisted on doing it yourself, and now you've spilled it all over yourself." Hongjun helped Chang Hao take off his outer robe, carefully making sure not a single drop of the Three Lights Divine Water fell to the ground.
Chang Hao was stunned. Even now, didn't his "father" suspect that he had deliberately poured it out? Or was he pretending not to know?
"Father will pour you some more, and this time, Father will feed you." Hongjun was clearly in high spirits.
"I don't want to drink water." Chang Hao's face was full of resistance, and his eyes were carefully glancing at Hongjun, obviously trying to judge Hongjun's attitude and tolerance.
The water was multicolored and looked poisonous, and extremely poisonous at that.
"Don't want to drink?" Hongjun knew Chang Hao was capable of making a scene, but luckily he was prepared. "It's alright, Father has ordered the chef to carefully prepare a soup for you."
He opened the jar next to him, and the steam inside immediately billowed out. Hongjun ladled out a bowl, and the steam rose onto his face. The person who was originally aloof and seemingly capable of ascending to immortality exuded a tender warmth.
“Open your mouth…” Hongjun was clearly very unfamiliar with the task.
"Hot..." Chang Hao didn't expect his 'father' to be prepared, pouring water and replacing it with soup. Was he trying to poison him?
It seems that there has to be something about his 'father' that he wants to accept.
Hot? Hongjun lowered his head and took a big gulp to experience it for himself before saying to Chang Hao, "It looks hot, but it's not actually hot."
Chang Hao remained silent; he had merely made up a plausible excuse to escape this potentially poisoned situation.
However, seeing that his 'father' actually drank it, Chang Hao glanced at the soup, wondering if it really wasn't poisoned.
"I'll serve you another bowl." Hongjun suddenly chuckled. Chang Hao was the Golden Crow; no one else could be burned, but he wouldn't.
"No need, this bowl is fine. I don't mind Father's taste." Just kidding. If Father ate from this bowl, Chang Hao could be sure it wasn't poisoned. But if it were a different bowl, things might not be so certain.
“Good son,” Hongjun was overjoyed. Even though his son had lost his memory, he was still so close to him. “Come here, Father will feed you.”
Chang Hao forced a smile and swallowed the soup offered to his lips, but he couldn't taste it at all.
Wait a minute, Chang Hao tasted it and found a warm current slowly flowing through his body to his limbs and bones. This is a good thing.
After the first bite, he wasn't so resistant to the second. Before he knew it, half a bowl of lotus seed soup had entered Chang Hao's stomach, and his previously muddled mind became much clearer.
Seeing that Chang Hao was eating with relish, Hongjun knew that the person he had painstakingly arranged was the right one.
Chang Hao secretly glanced at Hongjun; there really was no poison.
"Your Majesty, the Grand Tutor requests an audience," the eunuch announced softly, kneeling outside the hall.
"Can't you see? Can't you see I'm busy feeding the Crown Prince?" Hongjun sighed heavily. Thinking of Wen Zhong, his head was spinning. All he did was urge and chase after him to review memorials.
Hongjun loathed that thing so much that he hadn't touched a pen for two months.
Thinking of this, Hongjun recalled Chang Hao's tireless writing in the Heavenly Court every day. He hadn't realized it before, and now he felt endless pity for Chang Hao. Chang Hao had really worked hard, and this hardship was not something Chang Hao should have to endure.
He blamed himself for being soft-hearted and letting Chang Hao take over that mess, little did he know that an even more painful torment was hidden in that mess.
"Crown Prince?" Chang Hao asked in confusion, "I'm the Crown Prince?"
“Of course, I am the king, and you are naturally the crown prince,” Hongjun said matter-of-factly.
"Crown Prince? Your Majesty, when did you appoint a Crown Prince?" Wen Zhong heard this as soon as he entered the palace and immediately became agitated.
This matter concerns the fate of the nation; how can it be decided lightly? I even suspect that a demon has bewitched His Majesty and is trying to bring chaos to his Shang Dynasty.
"Wen Zhong, you've gone too far! How dare you trespass into the Qiankun Palace!" Hongjun smashed the empty jade bowl on the ground. Wasn't this disturbing his family time with his son?
Wen Zhong? Wen Zhong? Wen Zhong?
Chang Hao looked at the third eye on Wen Zhong's forehead and felt a sense of foreboding. He recalled that his father had just said he would name him "Shou," meaning Crown Prince Shou. Wasn't that Emperor Xin?
In other words, the tragic Emperor Xin of the future was him?
Chang Hao's face turned pale instantly. His tragic life, and the fact that he had three eyes, clearly showed that the era of humans and gods living together was not over yet. What made him miserable was the existence of gods and Buddhas everywhere. How could a human fight against a god?
"Your Majesty, please calm down. I only heard that there was a demon in the harem, and I was afraid of offending Your Majesty, so I rushed here in a hurry." Wen Zhong used his third eye to scan the palace. Not to mention a demon, the king's palace was unbelievably clean.
Chang Hao realized, "You mean I'm a monster?"
"You are outrageous!" Hongjun was furious. "You dare to trespass into the Qiankun Palace, and now you dare to point at the Crown Prince and call him a demon."
"Your Majesty, please calm down. I had no such intention." Wen Zhong knew he had acted rashly this time, and the newborn prince was fine.
"I have tolerated you for too long. Guards, take Wen Zhong away and remove him from his position as Grand Tutor..."
"Wait, Father, the Grand Tutor was only worried about your safety, which is why he risked being punished by you to break into Qiankun Palace. His intentions were good and he was loyal. Father, please don't be angry." Chang Hao couldn't just stand by and watch Di Yi drive Wen Zhong away. Without Wen Zhong, Chang Hao could imagine how difficult things would be for him in the future.
