Chapter 125 The Prince's Order
Xiyan jumped in from the back window and returned to the bedroom.
Only an inch of candle remained on the candlestick, casting a dim light in the draft.
She looked down at her wet hair and clothes. She wanted to wash them, but was afraid of disturbing Manluo. So, she didn't get on the bed and sat at the desk, planning to spend half the night there.
"Are you back?"
The person on the couch suddenly spoke, and there was a hint of clarity in his voice.
Xiyan's fingertips trembled, and she almost knocked over the teacup:
"You...didn't sleep?"
"Humph! You guys have been busy all night, and you just want to let me have some free time?"
As she spoke, Manluo turned over and sat up.
Xi Yan breathed a sigh of relief:
"The prince's order."
"This evil spirit really thinks I'm a troublemaker. It won't even let me participate in something as interesting as this."
Xiyan glanced at her with a smile: "You are quite obedient this time."
"You still don't obey under the eyes of the evil spirit. Am I tired of living?" Manluo answered unhappily.
As she spoke, Xiyan replaced the candles with new ones, and the room became much brighter.
Manluo stared at the woman in front of her who looked like a drowned rat, her eyebrows slightly furrowed:
"It's so wet and uncomfortable! You really must have rushed into the devil's way, going out on a mission and caught in this pouring rain."
As she spoke, she threw over a bag of new clothes:
"Hurry up and change, don't catch a cold!"
Xi Yan was slightly startled: "Where did you get it?"
"Mo Ren sent it here before you came back. It seems that the Demon God still has you in his heart."
Xiyan's eyes trembled slightly, and she took the clothes silently.
Manluo asked Xiyan what she heard and saw tonight. Xiyan did not hide anything and told her everything.
Manluo listened with great interest:
"It seems that old man Helian Cong is quite romantic. He is eating from the bowl and looking at the pot. Sisters, do you want a spoonful of stew?"
Xi Yan rolled her eyes at her and said, "Aren't you afraid that the prince will hear you and cut off your tongue?"
"hehe……"
Manluo covered her lips and chuckled softly, lowering her voice: "It's not certain whose son your lover is!"
"Nonsense! If that's the case, the Concubine Dowager can still let her son marry Helian Shu, wouldn't that be chaos..."
Xiyan blushed and stopped talking.
Manluo snorted softly, "Who can tell the secrets of the imperial palace?"
Seeing Xiyan ignoring her, Manluo changed the subject:
"This Chunxing Mansion is full of spies and traps. Last night, right after you left, someone sneaked in through the closet drawer. I caught him and questioned him, only to find out it was sent by that bastard Chu Jin to test us. I shot him dead."
"Where's the body? Don't let Chu Jin find out."
Manluo sneered:
"Don't worry, it's been dissolved with corpse powder. That bastard Chu Jin has been suspicious of us for a long time, so he's been testing us so many times. But in fact, there's no point in testing us. Sooner or later, this layer of window paper will be broken, and it's only a matter of time before we have to fight with swords. By then, either the fish will die or the net will be broken!"
Xi Yan sighed softly:
"This day is not far away!"
…
A night of heavy rain washed away the glazed tiles of the Yandu Imperial Palace. When the morning light broke through the clouds, only scattered puddles remained on the blue bricks of the Chunxing Pavilion.
With the pale blue sky reflected, Xiao Nanyan stood by the window, letting Xiyan tie his black cloak for him.
"Your Majesty, it's time for breakfast."
Xiao Nanyue glanced at her brand new plain white palace dress lightly. The moon-white butterfly laces were tied into an exquisite knot at her waist, which bound her slender waist so that it could be held in one hand. The remaining ribbons fell to her knees, swaying in delicate arcs as she walked.
After washing, her long hair fell on her shoulders, with a few strands of moist water vapor entangled in her black hair. The faint sweet fragrance mixed with the crispness of soapberries suddenly penetrated into his nostrils and was crushed in the wind in front of the window.
Xiyan lowered her eyes, avoiding his burning gaze, and turned back to the table.
The palace maids had already laid out twenty-four dishes on the table, including pickled bamboo shoots, sugar-pickled kumquats, coiled dragon lying in the snow, immortality soup, and transparent flower rice cakes... These were all Xiao Nanyan's favorite snacks.
Manluo stood by the table with her hands hanging down, taking a look at the sumptuous royal meal. Her eyes flickered and she curled her lips into a smile:
"This palace maid knows the prince's intentions very well!"
At this moment, Han Xiao suddenly came in and reported:
"Your Majesty, Eunuch Liu from His Majesty's side requests an audience."
"Come in!"
After entering the hall to pay homage, Eunuch Liu said respectfully:
"The Prince Regent was frightened yesterday. His Majesty is not feeling well today. He has ordered this servant to come and announce that after breakfast, five hundred Yulin soldiers will be assigned to escort the Prince and the Dowager back to their residence to prevent them from encountering any more Northern Cang assassins along the way."
“No need!”
Xiao Nanyan casually picked up a piece of cheese:
"I have more than enough men! Thank His Majesty on my behalf. If he is truly worried, he should investigate the remnants of the Northern Cang assassins, lest I should rest in this palace in utter disquiet!"
Last night at midnight, two dead bodies were dragged out of the Regent's room, and this news has already spread throughout the palace.
As the eunuch in charge, how could Eunuch Liu not know this?
His smile froze on his face, he hummed and hawed in agreement, then hurriedly bowed and retreated.
Xiao Nanyan looked at his departing figure and threw the piece of cheese into the plate:
"Go and ask the Concubine Dowager to leave the palace immediately!"
