Chapter 479: Kneel down and kowtow to your father
The next day, a mother and son slowly walked to Xiao Beicheng's lonely new grave.
The woman was about twenty-six or twenty-seven years old, with a slender figure and a bamboo basket hanging from her wrist.
Upon closer inspection, there was a kind of almost fragile softness between her eyebrows and eyes, her skin was as white as porcelain, and she looked somewhat similar to the former Concubine Su Xianrou, but there was a hint of coldness in her eyes that Su Xianrou did not have.
With her other hand she was holding a little boy of about six or seven years old.
The boy was extremely handsome, with delicate features that looked like he had walked out of a painting, especially his eyes, which were clearly black and white, yet revealed a calmness that was inconsistent with his age.
Both of them were wearing plain white clothes, which made them stand out in this desolate place.
The woman walked to Xiao Beicheng's tomb, looked at the lonely new grave, and suddenly kicked over the simple incense burner in front of the tomb. Her action was filled with unspeakable resentment, and the incense ashes were scattered all over the ground and drifted away with the wind.
She took out new incense sticks from the bamboo basket, lit them with a fire stick, and inserted them into the new incense burner.
Then she took out four plates of cakes and a pot of old wine and placed them in front of the tomb.
After arranging all this, the woman stared at the blank stone tablet, a hint of hatred in her eyes.
Then, she bit her middle finger hard, dipped the red blood on her fingertip, and wrote on the bare tombstone stroke by stroke:
Tomb of my late husband Xiao Beicheng.
After writing, she stared at the bloody words for a long time, and the tears that she had been holding back for a long time finally rolled down.
After a long while, she finally spoke with a hoarse voice, her voice choked with sobs but filled with deep hatred:
"Bei Cheng, you left three years ago in revenge for that bitch Su Xianrou, abandoning me and Che'er. You insisted on returning from Xichuan to Tianqi for revenge. I never thought that after years of planning, you would end up dead without even a proper tombstone. How ridiculous!"
As she spoke, she covered her face and cried:
"I know that you've always loved Su Xianrou. It's just that I resemble her in my eyes and eyebrows that I've had a few nights of love with you. However, I, your substitute, am deeply in love with you and willingly gave birth to Che'er for you. This is the last blood I'll leave for you in this world."
She took a deep breath, turned to look at the boy beside her, and her tone instantly turned cold:
"Che'er, kneel down and kowtow to your father!"
The little boy knelt respectfully in front of the grave without any hesitation, called out "Daddy", and kowtowed three times.
When he raised his head, there was no expression on his pretty little face, except for his eyes, which emitted a cold light that was extremely disproportionate to his age, like a knife tempered with ice.
The woman looked at her son like this, and finally a cold smile appeared on her lips:
"Remember, your father's name is Xiao Beicheng, the renowned general of Tianqi. And you are his only son—Xiao Xuanche!"
"Che'er remembers everything mother said."
He paused, looked towards the direction of Yandu Imperial City, and said word by word:
"The son will avenge his father with his own hands."
Hearing this, the woman finally smiled with satisfaction. She caressed her son's head lovingly with her bare hands, but there was a chill in her eyes that wouldn't melt away.
"Good boy, so good."
A gust of north wind suddenly blew up the wild grass, making the two people's mourning clothes rustle.
Xiao Xuanche knelt before the grave, his small figure looking particularly frail in the wilderness, but the flames burning in his eyes were even more scorching than the setting sun in the sky...
