Chapter 106 Sleeping Together
Hei Ming walked behind, closed the door behind him, and then followed him into the hut.
As soon as they entered the house, the old woman busied herself with pouring tea for them from the teapot.
Although she couldn't see people's faces clearly, she could still make out a few people.
However, these were all poor families, and there wasn't even a tea leaf in the teapot, just some plain water.
The group didn't have time to complain right now, and besides, everyone goes through all sorts of things when they're out and about.
The old woman poured tea for them and sat down to talk to them, saying, "The snow is so heavy. Why did you all go up the mountain? If you had stayed any longer, you would have frozen to death."
"It's snowing now, and we heard there are deer in the mountains, so we brothers thought we'd go hunting." The others remained silent; this kind of thing had to be done by Feng Qingge, who was shrewd and quick-witted.
The old woman seemed to understand but not quite. "Hey, why don't you stay here for the night? My son and daughter-in-law have just gone back to my parents' home, and my husband is sick in the house. You can make yourselves at home. There's a room across the street that can be occupied, and there's also that thatched hut outside. You can make do with it and leave tomorrow, okay?" She got up, leaning on her cane, and walked unsteadily toward the inner room.
The remaining four people looked at each other, at a loss for what to do.
A moment later, the sound of conversation came from inside; it was an old man's voice, as if he was asking someone.
The old woman was talking to him, but before she could say two words, she heard a cough.
"Here's what we'll do. I'll share a room with Qingge, and Heiming, you'll share a room with the Regent." Feng Qingjue thought for a long time before finally speaking.
Although they didn't know, Qingge was, after all, a woman. He was worried about sharing a room with Mo Linyuan, but he was even more worried about her sharing a room with Hei Ming.
As the older brother, he had a duty to ensure that no one discovered Qingge's identity, even if it meant staying up all night.
Hei Ming looked up at Feng Qingjue, then lowered his head again, remaining silent. He didn't care what happened to him.
“Qingge and I will share a room, and you will share a room with Heiming.” After a long silence, Mo Linyuan raised his eyes and looked at Feng Qingjue.
"It's alright, Your Highness. Qingge and I are brothers, we can look after each other." Feng Qingjue declined, not wanting Mo Linyuan to share a room with Feng Qingge.
Unexpectedly, Mo Linyuan glanced at Hei Ming and said, "If Hei Ming snores, I'm afraid I won't sleep well."
Hei Mingzang knew he was snoring, but under the intense pressure of his lord's gaze, he nodded against his will.
“But…” Just as Feng Qingjue was about to say something, she was interrupted by Mo Linyuan in a deep voice.
"It's settled then."
He didn't know why, but when he heard Feng Qingjue say that the two of them were brothers and could take care of each other, a surge of anger rose in his heart, and he felt a faint sense of jealousy.
From the moment the two of them started arguing about who would share a room with Feng Qingge, she herself couldn't get a word in edgewise. That's how it was decided, and she ended up sharing a room with her nemesis!
When night fell, the old woman cooked extra rice, and they ate some of it too.
In reality, this was hardly enough to fill their stomachs, but for these poor families, it was considered good.
Plain congee and steamed buns.
The old woman ladled out two bowls of porridge and took them to another room, presumably to take care of the sick old man.
Feng Qingge clearly saw that the old woman was serving mostly thin soup with little white rice, leaving the thicker parts for them.
After the meal, the group went back to their rooms to rest. Hei Ming and Feng Qingjue moved into the small thatched hut outside, while Feng Qingge and Mo Linyuan were left in the other room of the large thatched hut.
As she left, Feng Qingjue lingered, glancing at the two men with reluctance, fearing that Mo Linyuan might discover Qingge's identity.
