Chapter 22
Finally, the long-awaited weekend has arrived. The monthly exams were just finished last week, and the teachers rushed to grade the papers before the holiday, leaving them exhausted.
Jiang Wanwan also felt unprecedentedly tired, but not because of grading papers, but because she was being harassed by text messages from students' parents.
Since that day when he called Lan Lan's father to the school, he had privately met with Jiang Wanwan several times, using ambiguous and suggestive language.
At first, Jiang Wanwan replied seriously and politely refused, but later she simply ignored her. The other party seemed to realize that she was making a fool of herself and gradually stopped.
For some reason, Jiang Wanwan suddenly remembered that day when Lan's father said she looked like a female college student. Did she really look so lacking in authority?
"Ah Xiao, how do you think of my aura?" Jiang Wanwan straightened her back, deliberately put on a cold face, and walked in front of Xiao Mingzhu.
Xiao Mingzhu was leaning back on the sofa, engrossed in reading the news, when the woman interrupted him. He slowly raised his eyelids and gave her a cold glance.
Jiang Wanwan suddenly felt a chill and subconsciously put her hands under her trouser seam. When she realized what she had done, she instantly deflated.
"Sigh, I really don't look fierce at all—" Jiang Wanwan wailed, looking up and collapsing onto the sofa while hugging a kitten-shaped pillow.
Xiao Mingzhu stared at the woman, completely bewildered, not knowing what she was saying, but that didn't stop him from adding fuel to the fire.
"It's okay, you look very cute." So cute that you're innocent and easy to fool, Xiao Mingzhu thought.
Hearing the man's words, Jiang Wanwan felt as if a knife had been plunged into her heart, leaving it feeling like it was leaking air.
She doesn't want to be called cute; she's a mature and sophisticated urban woman.
No! She needs to change her image.
Thinking of this, she immediately sprang up from the sofa and headed straight for her bedroom.
A moment later, she came out dressed and said to the man on the sofa, "Ah Xiao, I'm going to get my hair done. You can eat by yourself tonight."
The woman's hair appointment time was unpredictable; she figured she probably wouldn't have time for dinner.
Before Xiao Mingzhu could answer, he heard the door close crisply. He swallowed back the words he was about to say and began to carefully read the news again.
Jiang Wanwan opened her phone, searched for a nearby hair salon with many positive reviews, and headed straight to the store.
"Welcome!"
As soon as she entered, the boys in the store greeted Jiang Wanwan in unison, each with a bright and energetic smile, which made Jiang Wanwan's heart flutter.
However, she wasn't that weak-willed; she quickly composed herself and walked in calmly.
The store's decor is very trendy, which shows that the owner must be a person who understands fashion.
Jiang Wanwan took the water handed to her by a young man and sighed inwardly at how trendy the barbershop was and how good the service was; no wonder it had so many positive reviews.
Because it was the weekend, the store was quite busy, and every seat was occupied.
"What hairstyle would you like?" the receptionist asked with a smile.
"I want to get my hair permed."
"Oh dear, you'll have to wait a little longer. The hairdressers are all busy right now."
"How long will it take?"
"It will take at least an hour."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Wanwan pouted, seemingly surprised that the business here was so booming.
She wavered a little, wondering if she should come another day.
As she glanced to the side, she suddenly saw another person in the inner room, seemingly fiddling with a hair perming machine.
Her eyes lit up, and she pointed towards the inner room, saying, "Isn't there another hairdresser there? He should know how to perm hair too." Otherwise, why would he be fiddling with the perming equipment?
The receptionist's expression froze. He rubbed his hands together and said somewhat apologetically, "Excuse me, ma'am, that's our boss."
"Doesn't the boss need to manage the store's business?" Jiang Wanwan asked sincerely, but perhaps because she was used to being a teacher, her tone inevitably carried a hint of sternness.
When this reached the receptionist's ears, it carried a hint of accusation. He scratched his head, trying to prepare his words before continuing to refuse.
But before he could even speak, he heard the woman in front of him exclaim in surprise, "Kuang Ye?"
As Jiang Wanwan glanced at the man in the inner room, the more she looked, the more familiar he seemed. When his head finally appeared and she saw his short, light blonde hair, she recognized him completely.
Jiang Wanwan's voice was neither too loud nor too soft, just loud enough for the man inside to hear. When Kuang Ye heard someone calling him, he slowly turned his head.
He paused for a moment when he saw Jiang Wanwan, then put down the instrument in his hand and strode out.
"Sister, are you here to get your hair done?"
The receptionist next to them, seeing that the two knew each other, had already quietly retreated to the cashier's counter.
Jiang Wanwan nodded. "I'm here to get my hair permed, but how did you suddenly become the owner of this shop?"
Didn't he say he was a college student working part-time to support himself? Where did he get so much money to open his own shop?
Kuang Ye blinked and obediently replied, "I run this business in partnership with others; this is my main business."
Jiang Wanwan was even more confused. His main job should be going to school, so how did it become running a shop?
But this was, after all, someone else's private matter, and she felt awkward asking about such details.
Since they were acquaintances, Jiang Wanwan didn't mention having the other party perm her hair anymore, and she made up her mind not to switch to another salon, which could be considered as supporting her friend's business.
An hour is fine, just treat it as proctoring an exam. It's just a pity about her bottom; I wonder how long she'll be stuck to the chair.
Unexpectedly, Kuang Ye suddenly spoke up: "Sister, let me give you a perm. What kind of perm do you want?"
As he spoke, he took out a hairstyle catalog and placed it in front of Jiang Wanwan.
Jiang Wanwan looked pleasantly surprised. "Is that okay?" She still remembered what the receptionist had said earlier, that Kuang Ye usually didn't cut hair.
Kuang Ye raised an eyebrow. "Of course, it's fine if it's my older sister."
Hearing the other person's sweet words, Jiang Wanwan felt even more pleased. "Okay, thank you for your help." Since there was a hairdresser available, why waste time waiting for so long?
After choosing the hairstyle, Kuang Ye personally took Jiang Wanwan to get her hair washed.
Rich, creamy foam was being massaged on the woman's head with just the right amount of pressure, but every time the other person's fingers brushed behind her ears, she felt a tingling sensation on her scalp.
Kuang Ye, who was washing his hair, was also observing the woman. He noticed that her eyelashes were very curled, her lips were extremely full, and especially a small, hidden mole at the junction of her jaw and neck.
This mole is barely visible unless you look closely, and due to the angle, it's not visible from the front when Jiang Wanwan is standing.
This discovery amused Kuang Ye. He pretended to accidentally get foam on Jiang Wanwan's chin, and then, while rinsing it with water, he secretly ran his fingers over the small mole.
Seeing that Jiang Wanwan hadn't noticed, he secretly raised the corners of his mouth like a child who had successfully done something naughty.
After I finished washing my hair, there happened to be an empty seat in the shop.
Jiang Wanwan, holding the towel on her head, went to the mirror.
Kuang Ye picked up a comb and gently combed the woman's hair, asking as he did so, "Why did you suddenly want to perm your hair, sister?"
Upon hearing this, a look of frustration appeared in Jiang Wanwan's eyes, and she said sullenly, "Long black hair makes me look too young. I want to look more mature."
Seeing the woman's cute pout, Kuang Ye couldn't help but chuckle. "Okay, I promise to make you a mature woman."
The rustling sound of scissors rang out, and black hairs kept falling in front of Jiang Wanwan's eyes.
Her hair, which was at least waist-length, was suddenly cut off, and she felt a little heartbroken. To distract herself, she started chatting with Kuang Ye about everyday things.
What's your major?
"finance."
"!" Jiang Wanwan looked incredulous. "So your family agreed to you doing this?"
After saying it, she realized something was off and quickly added, "I didn't mean to look down on hairdressers... I was just a little surprised by how big the difference is between the two."
Kuang Ye remained calm and said in a low voice, "I haven't had a home since my grandmother passed away."
"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bring up your sad story." Jiang Wanwan didn't know what to say for a moment, so she could only apologize awkwardly.
She hadn't expected that Kuang Ye was not only poor, but also an orphan without a home. However, she admired him greatly for being able to support himself.
Kuang Ye noticed the sympathy in Jiang Wanwan's eyes. He took the opportunity to turn around and get his tools, and gave a mocking smirk.
Since his mother remarried and had a new child, he has completely broken away from that family. Seeing the three of them living happily together, he only felt ironic and sad.
His maternal grandmother raised him when he was a child. But as soon as his grandmother passed away, his mother remarried, sold the old house, and moved to Beijing with him.
He came to the capital city from a small city and was ridiculed, looked down on, and scolded for being unruly.
But what was his mother doing at that time? Oh right, she was trying to please her new mother-in-law and that family.
However, his adopted sister always liked to stick to him, so sometimes he would tease her a bit.
If his mother hadn't begged him to go to university, he probably would have entered the workforce right after graduating from junior high school.
For him, it didn't matter what major he studied; his stepfather filled out the application anyway.
The only thing he was fortunate about was that he met a group of like-minded friends in college and played music together.
But making music also requires money, and he is doing all these jobs now in order to earn money. His dream is to become the top rapper in the entire country of China.
His stepfather was wealthy, but he disdained the man's charity, so after leaving home, he always supported himself and never took a penny from the Pu family.
Three hours later, Jiang Wanwan's hair was finally permed.
The hairdryer stopped, and she stood up and quickly stretched her arms and legs; her back was aching from sitting for so long.
"Are you satisfied, sister?" Kuang Ye stood behind her, smiling faintly as he looked at the woman in the mirror.
The previously monotonous straight hair has been transformed, with layers of distinct large waves cascading over the shoulders, making the woman less innocent and more charming.
The shimmering light exuded a mature and beautiful charm, attracting the attention of countless people in the store.
Jiang Wanwan was very satisfied with the result. She smiled and said, "I'm very satisfied. Thank you."
Upon hearing this, Kuang Ye grinned, a fleeting glint in his eyes. "Then, sister, would you like to get a membership card? It's half price today if you do."
