Chapter 37
A cold wind swept through the capital, and the winter vacation was just around the corner.
Jiang Wanwan returned to the classroom with her final exam results in hand, and stood on the podium, "Congratulations, everyone! We achieved the highest score in the grade this time!"
The students below cheered, their faces beaming with joy.
"Teacher, could you assign less homework for winter break?" one of the little boys asked.
Jiang Wanwan smiled and said, "As for the Chinese homework, I can give you a little less."
Teachers of other subjects have their own teaching pace, which she doesn't interfere with, but she also doesn't want to disappoint her students.
"Yay! Yay! Yay! Yay!"
"That's great!"
The students were all excited and spoke up, after all, they were happy if they could have less homework.
Jiang Wanwan cleared her throat. "There's one more thing. We have a parent-teacher meeting on Friday afternoon. Please remind your parents to attend on time."
Before the official start of winter break, the school requires a parent-teacher meeting to discuss the students' progress this semester and to provide safety education.
Friday afternoon.
The classroom was full of people, but this time they weren't students, but their parents.
Jiang Wanwan stood on the podium. If she was a little nervous when she first attended a parent-teacher meeting, she was now completely at ease.
She smiled and chatted with the parents about class development, students' learning progress, and so on.
Suddenly, the classroom door opened again.
"I'm sorry, I'm late, Teacher Jiang—"
A figure appeared at the doorway, startling Jiang Wanwan. The person had an arrogant smile on their lips and drew out the last syllable of their words.
It's Kuang Ye!
What is he doing here?!
Jiang Wanwan stiffened, but facing so many parents below the stage, she managed to maintain her composure. "Oh, okay, please take a seat, parent."
Kuang Ye glanced at the woman pretending not to recognize him, a sarcastic smile playing on his lips. He didn't expose her, and strode over to his sister Pu Yuan's seat with his hands in his pockets.
Jiang Wanwan doesn't remember how the parent-teacher meeting ended; she probably just followed the pre-prepared procedures step by step.
Even after it ended, she was still in a daze.
Throughout the entire process, she dared not look in Kuang Ye's direction, for fear of making eye contact with him.
Fortunately, after the parent-teacher meeting, Kuang Ye disappeared without communicating with her privately like some other parents, which made Jiang Wanwan breathe a sigh of relief.
By the time she stepped out of the school gate, it was completely dark. The sky was like a black cloth, without a single star.
"Jiang Wanwan! You're really something—"
Just as she reached a corner near the school gate, a male voice suddenly reached her ears.
Jiang Wanwan paused, then stiffly turned in the direction the sound came from.
A tall man leaned against the wall, his eyes cold, one hand in his pocket and the other holding a lit cigarette. The smell of the cigarette made Jiang Wanwan cough.
"Cough cough—how could you—cough cough—" Perhaps she was too frightened to see the man, Jiang Wanwan couldn't stop coughing.
Kuang Ye's bangs were messy, giving him an untamed wildness. He looked at the tears welling up in the woman's eyes from coughing, chuckled, stubbed out his cigarette, and waved his hand in the air a few times, as if trying to get rid of the smell of smoke.
The man approached Jiang Wanwan with a sharp look in his eyes that she had never seen before; in the past, he usually had a gentle smile when facing her.
But the man standing before her now gave her a strange sense of oppression.
So, Jiang Wanwan subconsciously took a step back.
However, this one move completely shattered Kuang Ye's restraint. He swung his long arm, scooped the woman up, and leaned down to whisper viciously in her ear, "You think you can just dump me after you're done? You're dreaming!"
His eyes were slightly red as he spoke, as if he was trying hard to restrain himself.
Jiang Wanwan felt the warmth emanating from the other person, but her face was extremely pale. She really didn't expect that the other person would be Pu Yuan's family member.
Although Pu Yuan had told her that she had an older brother, she just couldn't reconcile the image of the ladylike Pu Yuan with that of the arrogant and untrustworthy man in front of her.
It wasn't until she saw Kuang Ye appear at the parents' meeting today and then walk to Pu Yuan's seat that she realized their relationship.
In Jiang Wanwan's mind, the world was so big that as long as she stopped contacting Kuang Ye and stopped going to his barbershop, they might never see each other again in their lives.
But reality slapped her in the face, and her feelings were extremely complicated.
"I didn't expect you to be Pu Yuan's brother! Hahaha," Jiang Wanwan said, choosing a roundabout tactic and then chuckling awkwardly to cover up her embarrassment.
Upon hearing this, Kuang Ye gave a forced smile and said, "What? Are you disappointed? You didn't expect this day to come when you blocked me, did you?"
Jiang Wanwan sensed his sarcastic tone and pursed her slightly dry lips.
She had talked so much at the parent-teacher meeting today that she hadn't had a chance to drink any water, and now, facing the man's questioning, she suddenly felt even drier.
"When did your tour end?" She kept changing the subject, avoiding eye contact.
Kuang Ye approached again, this time the distance between them had completely disappeared. The closest they had ever been was during their near-close encounter in Wujing Town...
Jiang Wanwan was cornered by the man, but she still blinked her innocent eyes at him.
Upon seeing this, Kuang Ye's eyes deepened; he had been completely deceived by Jiang Wanwan's charming appearance.
Even he, who had never imagined before, could have such a clever scheme hidden beneath her innocent face, one that could actually fool him, a man who had long since entered the workforce.
"It just ended today, and they came to arrest people as soon as they got off the plane," Kuang Ye answered Jiang Wanwan's question.
"Haha, that must be so tiring. Why don't you take a rest?" Jiang Wanwan secretly groaned in her heart, but on the surface she still pretended to be concerned, hoping to numb the other party and let her go as soon as possible.
Kuang Ye stared straight into the woman's eyes, trying to discern something from them, but her gaze darted away, as if he were a ferocious beast.
"Ha, I've been deceived, both physically and emotionally, and I've been kicked out of my home. Where do you think I should go to rest?"
He said this half-truthfully, but he didn't want to explain it to Jiang Wanwan.
Since his mother married into the wealthy Pu family in the capital, he has lived alone outside and never goes back unless absolutely necessary.
Because he felt that it wasn't his real home, and later his mother had a child with that man, Pu Yuan. Every time he saw the three of them living happily together, he felt out of place.
Kuang Ye didn't want to make a fool of himself, so he rarely went back and wouldn't take the initiative to put on any family drama with them. This time, attending the parent-teacher conference for Pu Yuan was his only exception.
"How about I get you a hotel room?"
"And then, like last time, they'll just leave me there all alone?"
The man's tone was mocking, as if he had guessed Jiang Wanwan's thoughts. Jiang Wanwan was exposed and could only laugh awkwardly a few more times.
In the darkness, the two faced each other, but their eyes shone brightly.
Jiang Wanwan was thinking about how to get rid of the other party, while Kuang Ye was watching to see what other cold and ruthless words she would say.
After a long while, the two still couldn't reach a conclusion.
"I'm going home." Jiang Wanwan sighed, as if she didn't want to get entangled with the other party anymore.
"Oh," Kuang Ye replied indifferently, but he followed Jiang Wanwan's every step.
Finally, Jiang Wanwan had no choice but to give up and said, "What do you want? How about I pay you some money and you just pretend none of this ever happened?"
Kuang Ye looked up in shock at the woman, realizing that she could say something even more heartbreaking.
The man's eyes were bloodshot as he stared intently at her, his tone aggressive, "Jiang Wanwan, what do you take me for?!"
Is it a duck that appears when called and disappears when dismissed?
In fact, Jiang Wanwan regretted her words as soon as she said them. She never thought that she, who always prided herself on her high moral standards, would say such irresponsible things.
Seeing the hurt look in the man's eyes, Jiang Wanwan's attitude softened instantly. "Why don't you come to my place for the night... and leave tomorrow."
"good."
Before Jiang Wanwan could finish speaking, Kuang Ye immediately agreed, his aggrieved expression vanishing as if he had only been faking it.
Kuang Ye was indeed faking it. He had long understood Jiang Wanwan's personality; she responded to gentle persuasion but not force. He was very satisfied with his tactic of retreating to advance.
Kuang Ye had long realized that he was completely smitten with Jiang Wanwan, so no matter what, he had to get her, both her body and her heart.
It wasn't until Jiang Wanwan brought Kuang Ye home that she realized what she had done.
Oh no! She brought another man home! She broke the vow she made herself.
After arriving at Jiang Wanwan's rented apartment, Kuang Ye, like a forest king surveying his territory, looked around the apartment, scrutinizing even the shoes in the shoe cabinet.
Apart from the things Xiao Mingzhu had taken himself, Jiang Wanwan had cleaned up everything else, so there were naturally no traces of a man in the room.
But now there was a living man here, which gave Jiang Wanwan a bit of a headache.
"You can stay in that room tonight." Jiang Wanwan casually pointed to the bedroom next door, then went back to her own bedroom.
She was so tired today. After teaching all day, she assigned tasks for the students during the winter break, then held a parent-teacher meeting, and finally spent so much time with Kuang Ye in the cold wind.
Jiang Wanwan took off her clothes, tidied herself up, and went into the bathroom in the bedroom to wash up and go to bed.
The sound of running water filled the bathroom, and the comfortable water temperature relieved Jiang Wanwan's fatigue from the day, so she spent an unusually long time in the bathroom today.
After changing into her pajamas and drying her hair, Jiang Wanwan lay down on the bed, showing no intention of leaving the bedroom. She didn't want to deal with Kuang Ye anymore.
Perhaps because she was too tired during the day, Jiang Wan slept soundly through the night.
But when she stepped out of her room the next day, the scene she saw shocked her.
All I could see was Kuang Ye wearing an apron with a cat pattern on it, frying eggs in the kitchen. Most importantly, he wasn't wearing anything underneath!
Please, it's winter!
Isn't he cold? Jiang Wanwan couldn't help but shiver; just looking at him made her feel cold.
Kuang Ye had obviously noticed her too. He turned around, his eyes expressionless, and said coldly, "I made breakfast, come and eat."
