Chapter 1

Chapter 1

People always choose to travel long distances for their dreams, but sometimes, the easiest place to realize a dream is right where the dream began.

Ten years later, Jiang Wanwan finally stepped into the gates of Yanyuan No.1 Middle School again.

However, this time her identity is no longer that of a student, but a teacher.

The security guard at the school gate has been replaced by a young man.

Through the glass of the gatehouse, he saw Jiang Wanwan freeze instantly, as if her heart had been struck, and she even dropped the steamed bun in her hand to the ground.

"Wait a moment!"

Jiang Wanwan, who was walking forward, stopped when she heard the sound behind her, and the clattering of her high heels also stopped.

A gentle breeze blew by, and Jiang Wanwan brushed a stray hair from her forehead, turned around, and politely asked, "Is there anything I can help you with?"

The security guard had never seen such a beautiful woman. She was wearing a light blue business suit, with delicate features and an elegant demeanor. Her long black hair cascaded down to her waist, making her appear both gentle and capable, like an unadorned water lily.

His face flushed, and he stammered, "What...what do you do?"

The school does not allow unauthorized personnel to enter or leave at will. Apart from students and faculty, everyone else must register before entering.

This is for the safety of the school, but sometimes people will not cooperate. The security guard often has to deal with these kinds of conflicts, so he always speaks directly.

But today, after asking the question as usual, he suddenly felt a little regretful. Seeing the woman's obviously stunned expression, he began to wonder if he had been too fierce just now.

In fact, Jiang Wanwan was not intimidated by the other party's attitude. Instead, the moment the security guard asked the question, she thought she was a student and instinctively reached for her student ID.

He had already put his hand in his pocket when he suddenly remembered that he was now a teacher.

"Hello, I am Jiang Wanwan, the new teacher. Today is my first day here."

It turned out to be a new teacher. The security guard scratched the back of his head, recalling that his supervisor had told him that four new teachers were coming today.

"Excuse me, Teacher Jiang, I didn't recognize you. Please come in quickly."

He took out a notebook from the window, checked the names on it, and then ticked the box next to "Jiang Wanwan". Below it were three other names: Lu Dachuan, Tie Shengnan, and Ren He.

Jiang Wanwan smiled and nodded, then said to the security guard, "Thank you. May I ask your name?"

I'll be working here from now on, coming and going all the time, and I'll definitely have to deal with the security guards. We'll see each other all the time, so it's better to say hello.

Jiang Wanwan has always been popular since childhood. She also has a little-known habit: she will greet anyone she knows and doesn't dislike with enthusiasm whenever she meets them.

When the security guard heard Jiang Wanwan ask his name, he immediately replied happily, "My name is Liu Lian, you can just call me Xiao Liu."

In the eyes of the security guard, Jiang Wanwan's behavior made him feel respected. You have to know that he has been working here for five years, and there are still many people in the school who only recognize him but do not know his name or care about his name.

durian?

Jiang Wanwan's red lips curved slightly, which suited his spiky image quite well.

Seeing this, the security guard seemed to realize something as well. He was both embarrassed and anxious, and immediately began to gesture to Jiang Wanwan, "It's not the durian you eat, it's the Liu in Liu's surname, and the Lian in Dalian."

Seeing the security guard blushing as he explained, Jiang Wanwan chuckled, unable to bear teasing him any longer. "Okay, goodbye, Xiao Liu."

Just as she was about to turn and leave, a steady and loud voice suddenly came from outside the school gate: "Wanwan, you're here so early?"

Good morning, Principal Wei.

"Principal Wei!"

The security guard and Jiang Wanwan spoke one after the other.

The person who arrived was Wei Yan, the vice principal of Yanyuan No.1 Middle School. He looked to be in his fifties and was pushing a bicycle into the school gate with a thermos hanging on the handlebars.

Jiang Wanwan's eyes lit up when she saw the familiar figure. Wei Yan was the vice principal when she was still in school. He was kind and humorous and was very popular with the students.

Wei Yan walked through the school gate, nodded to the security guard, and then smiled at Jiang Wanwan, asking, "How did you get here?"

“My dad drove me there,” Jiang Wanwan replied.

Then, she said familiarly, "Why did you come by bicycle today?"

Wei Yan sighed and said helplessly, "I was diagnosed with fatty liver last year, and your Aunt Cui insisted that I ride my bike here every day, saying it was for exercise."

Aunt Cui is Wei Yan's wife and a close friend of Jiang Wanwan's mother, so the two families have always had a good relationship.

When Jiang Wanwan started working at Yanyuan No. 1 Middle School, his wife specifically asked him to take good care of her. Wei Yan neither agreed nor disagreed with this.

Even if he does nothing, there will still be people who care about Jiang Wanwan.

After all, Jiang Wanwan's mother was a teacher at Yanyuan No. 1 Middle School, and one of the few special-grade teachers.

Although she has now retired, most of the teachers at the school still know her and know that she has a promising daughter named Jiang Wanwan.

The two walked and talked along the campus path.

Seeing that they were some distance from the school gate, Jiang Wanwan whispered to Wei Yan, "Uncle Wei, please don't call me Wanwan at school anymore. Just call me Xiao Jiang or Teacher Jiang."

Wei Yan was a smart man and immediately understood Jiang Wanwan's meaning: she wanted to distance herself from him and avoid suspicion.

He added a few more wrinkles to the crow's feet at the corners of his eyes and laughed, "No wonder you called me Principal Wei just now, like everyone else. I thought you'd gone crazy from studying so much."

Hearing Wei Yan's teasing, Jiang Wanwan quietly stuck out her tongue.

Jiang Wanwan graduated with a master's degree. Many of her peers had been working for several years, and some had even gotten married. Compared to them, she entered the workforce rather late.

"Okay, I'll listen to you. Keep up the good work, Teacher Jiang!"

When they arrived at the entrance to the bike shed, Wei Yan went in to park his bicycle, so he parted ways with Jiang Wanwan.

Inspired, Jiang Wanwan was filled with energy. She stood still, took a deep breath, and silently cheered herself on.

However, just as she closed her eyes and exhaled, a slightly tense male voice suddenly came from her right side, startling her.

"Hello, are you also a new teacher?"

A slender man appeared in front of Jiang Wanwan, and she had no idea where he had suddenly come from.

He was wearing a black and white checkered shirt, and was about the same height as Jiang Wanwan. He also had a pair of glasses on his nose. Although he looked decent, he had a stiff look about him, like a salted fish that had been pickled for ten years.

Because Jiang Wanwan majored in Chinese literature, she was quite sensitive to language, so she could vaguely discern the regional accent in the other person's Mandarin. However, since it was their first meeting, she refrained from speaking out of politeness.

Judging from the other person's appearance, he must also be a new teacher, so Jiang Wanwan took the initiative to extend her hand to him.

"Yes, I'm Jiang Wanwan, the new Chinese teacher. And you are?"

When the young man saw Jiang Wanwan extend her hand to him, he was flattered and quickly shook her hand, saying shyly, "Hello, hello, I am Ren He, and I teach mathematics. Please take care of me in the future, Teacher Jiang."

Seeing the other party's overly polite manner, Jiang Wanwan's lips twitched, and she almost thought that her identity had suddenly become that of the head of the teaching department.

"Don't mention it, we'll look out for each other."

Seeing that Ren He was still holding her hand, Jiang Wanwan carefully pulled it away.

At this moment, the other person seemed to realize that their behavior was inappropriate and quickly apologized, "I'm sorry, I..."

"It's alright! Let's go report together." Jiang Wanwan quickly stopped Ren He. She could finally see that this new male teacher was indeed a bit too fussy.

Although it was still early, she wasn't sure if they would be late if they lingered here any longer.

She really didn't want to be late on her first day of work!

As they walked, Ren He's expression grew increasingly conflicted. After hesitating for a moment, he finally asked, "Teacher Jiang, who was the person who came with you just now?"

Upon hearing this, Jiang Wanwan paused for a moment. "That's Principal Wei. He didn't come with me. We just bumped into each other at the school gate."

"Principal!" Ren He exclaimed, his previously calmed-down state of mind suddenly tensing up again.

"Then...is he strict?"

"Huh? It's alright, Principal Wei seems very kind."

"Oh, that's good, that's good..."

Ren He let out a long sigh, muttering something to himself; anyone who didn't know better would think he was a student afraid of his teacher.

Aside from the brief exchange, the two remained silent, and the atmosphere became somewhat tense.

Teachers and students entered the school gate one after another. Since it was the first day of school, they all arrived relatively early, creating a bustling atmosphere that greatly eased the awkwardness between the two.

But it was another person who truly broke the silence between the two.

Just as Jiang Wanwan was about to step onto the steps of the teaching building, a tall young man suddenly ran up from not far away, shouting as he ran, "Jiang Wanwan! You heartless bastard, why didn't you call me when you left?"

The man who arrived was a tall young man, dressed in a T-shirt and suit pants, with white sneakers on his feet. What was most interesting was that he was carrying a Superman crossbody bag that didn't suit his age.

"Lu Dachuan, look at your phone! How many times have I called you? You overslept and you're blaming me?" Jiang Wanwan stood there with her arms crossed, her eyebrows raised.

Lu Dachuan and she lived in the next-door neighborhood. They had been studying at the same school since elementary school, and this "ill-fated relationship" actually continued until they went to graduate school. They knew about each other's embarrassing moments from their student days and often teased each other for fun.

Now they're actually going to work in the same company again. According to Lu Dachuan himself, they must have taken some kind of magic potion in their past lives to be so destined for each other in this life.
