Chapter 85 The Princess's Request

On his way back to the palace, Rong Mian kept thinking about whether his father would have any objections if he suggested that Mu Xinyan stay in his prince's residence.

However, this was Mu Xinyan's only request. It was also a quick way for him and Mu Xinyan to cultivate their feelings for each other. Living in the same mansion every day, seeing each other all the time, they were bound to develop feelings for each other eventually.

I just don't know if my father will agree. Or rather, he might suspect that I have ulterior motives.

Oh well, whatever. In any case, if this matter is accomplished, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks for him.

When Rong Mian arrived at the Imperial Study, the Emperor had just finished the morning court session. Rong Mian waited at the door for a while, and then Rong Yuan called him in.

Rong Mian: "Your subject greets Your Majesty."

"Yes, get up. I asked you to go see the princess of Tianzhu this morning, how is she now?"

Rong Mian stood up and replied, "I was stabbed, but it didn't hit any vital organs. I'm resting now."

Rong Yuan nodded: "Yes, visit her more often these next few days, so that she doesn't feel that our Azure Dragon Kingdom has not been hospitable enough."

"Yes, Father."

After asking his questions, Rong Yuan prepared to review the memorials, but when he looked up, he saw that Rong Mian was still not planning to leave.

"Third brother, is there anything else?"

Rong Mian said somewhat awkwardly, "Father, I just went to see the princess. She has a request for me."

Rong Yuan glanced at him upon hearing this: "What are your requirements?"

"The princess wishes... the princess wishes to change her lodgings. After this assassination attempt, she dares not stay at the post station. Moreover, the environment of the post station is not suitable for her to recuperate. Therefore, I humbly request Your Majesty's permission to let the princess stay at my prince's residence. Your Majesty, rest assured, I will do my best to take good care of the princess."

Rong Yuan glanced at him: "Is this what the princess requested, or what you wanted?"

Rong Mian thought for a moment and said, "This is what Her Highness the Princess requests, and it is also what I, your son, think."

Rong Mian still told the truth, because he believed that no matter what he said, his father would know what he meant, so why should he lie!

Rong Yuan nodded, quite frankly, without making up any lies.

"Since it's the princess's request, then grant her wish and take good care of her."

Rong Mian immediately expressed his gratitude: "Thank you, Father Emperor."

After Rong Mian finished speaking, he left the Imperial Study.

Rong Yuan sighed, "This child always overthinks things."

Hong Fu stood beside Rong Yuan, watching the Emperor sigh, and silently poured him a cup of tea.

Rong Yuan picked up his teacup, took a sip, and then turned to look at him.

"Why aren't you saying anything? What do you think about what happened with the third brother just now?"

Here it comes, here it comes again, the daily death traps, they'll only be late, they'll never be absent.

How am I supposed to answer that the Third Prince wants the support of the Kingdom of Tianzhu?

Or is it that the Third Prince genuinely loves the princess of Tianzhu? While it can't be said to be false, there must be some other elements involved.

"Your Majesty, this old servant believes that the Third Prince may truly be in love with the Princess of Tianzhu!"

Whether it's genuine affection or feigned affection, or whether it's true love for her as a person or for the Indian kingdom behind her, remains unknown.

Rong Yuan glared at him, annoyed. "Hmph, you're good at playing the good guy. You don't know how much else is mixed in with his genuine affection? Or are you old and blind, or are you too afraid to say it?"

Hong Fu wasn't worried when the Emperor exposed him. What he could think of, the Emperor certainly couldn't!

However, the Emperor, out of consideration for the father-son relationship, wanted to get him to say it.

"Your Majesty, please put your mind at ease. Even if the Third Prince's affection is mixed with other factors, he is still Your Majesty's son, a prince of the Azure Dragon Kingdom."

Hongfu meant that even if the Third Prince wanted the support of the Kingdom of Tianzhu, so what? Leaving aside whether he could actually get it, even if he did, would he be able to ascend the throne? Besides, even if he did get support, so what? Wouldn't he still be Your Majesty's son? After that, whoever becomes emperor, it would all be up to Your Majesty's word.

Rong Yuan stared at him speechlessly. He was probably the only one who dared to only say half of what he meant. Rong Yuan always had to guess the meaning behind his words. Their roles were reversed, weren't they?

Rong Yuan glared at him: "You're the smartest one!"

Hong Fu quickly smiled apologetically: "Your Majesty flatters me. Your Majesty is the most intelligent and wise ruler in the entire Azure Dragon Kingdom, unmatched by anyone..."

"Alright, alright, stop flattering me. Go ask the Crown Prince how the interrogation of yesterday's assassin is going. If it's finished, come see me first."

"Yes, Your Majesty, I'll go right away."

After Hong Fu left, the vast imperial study fell silent. Only the sound of Rong Yuan turning the pages of memorials remained.

After leaving the palace, Rong Mian hurried back to his residence to arrange for the princess to stay.
