Chapter 17: Jade-faced Scholar (I)

Chapter 17: Jade-faced Scholar (I)

Xie Sui sat by the campfire, holding a case file in his hand, but his eyes drifted involuntarily to Du Huaizhi. Du Ruozhi smiled brightly, but deliberately restrained her gaze, glancing at Du Huaizhi from time to time, and then at the barbecue on the iron pan from time to time, her excitement overflowing from her eyes.

It does seem to smell delicious.

"Sir, I want to..." Huang Que hesitated, and even Tang Lang beside him was the same.

Xie Sui closed the case file and said calmly, "If you want to go, go."

Huang Queru, feeling as if he had been pardoned, immediately pulled Tang Lang closer. Seeing this, Xue Feiheng also pretended to casually walk closer.

"Ms. Du, this barbecue smells so good. Can you give us some?" Huang Que looked at the barbecue on the pot eagerly.

Du Huaizhi divided the first batch of roasted meat into bowls and gave some to Du Ruozhi. Then he picked up the jar of seasonings she had. "If you want to eat it, roast it yourself. Here are the spices. Five taels of silver per jar."

"What?" Huang Que's eyes widened. "So expensive?"

"A unique secret recipe." Du Huaizhi slowly picked up a piece of meat and put it into his mouth under Huang Que's burning gaze.

Du Ruozhi looked at the people who gathered around her and couldn't help but say, "My sister's spices are not something you can buy just because you want them." She generously distributed the roasted meat to a few people and said, "Try it. The meat roasted with this spice is not only fragrant, but also very delicious."

Xue Feiheng took the piece of meat and was stunned after taking a bite.

The mutton was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The flavor of the spices perfectly masked the strong smell of mutton and instead brought out the sweetness of the meat, making people want to eat their tongue as well. He couldn't help but look at Du Huaizhi a little more. He didn't expect that she had such a skill.

"Delicious! I didn't expect mutton to be so delicious. The five taels of silver are worth it." Huang Que said incoherently with his mouth full of oil. He took out money to buy the can of seasoning in Du Huaizhi's hand and went back excitedly to grill meat.

As the night deepened, the camp was filled with the aroma of barbecue. After eating and drinking their fill, Du Huaizhi and his companions lay down in the tent and fell asleep peacefully.

After a peaceful night, they continued their journey the next day, stopping at dusk to set up camp. They stayed in the wild for two nights, and before dark on the third day, they arrived at their destination - Shaoping.

Shaoping City is the capital of Hezhou and the most prosperous place in the area.

Du Ruozhi looked up at the shops and fluttering signs lining the street, and couldn't help feeling happy. Finally, she didn't have to sleep in a tent tonight.

"Settle down first." Xie Sui instructed briefly.

The group checked into an inn in the east of the city. After settling their luggage and washing up, Du Ruozhi couldn't wait to pull Du Huaizhi out.

As soon as I walked into the lobby, I saw Xue Feiheng and Xie Sui sitting at a table in the corner with a map spread out in front of them. They were not talking to each other and I didn't know what they were thinking about.

Du Ruozhi paused, hesitated for a moment, and finally decided not to disturb him. She pulled Du Huaizhi and left the inn.

Xie Sui raised his eyes at this moment, and his gaze lingered on her back for a moment.

"What's wrong?" Xue Feiheng asked when he saw that he was distracted.

Xie Sui retracted his gaze and said, "Nothing." He turned around and asked Huang Que to follow and escort him.

Huang Que was puzzled, but he did as he was told.

As the night deepens, the streets of Shaoping City are still bustling with activity, and the lights are dazzlingly bright.

Du Huaizhi was forcibly dragged to visit several shops and bought some small items. When he found that Huang Que had followed him, all these things were handed to Huang Que, and finally they sat down in a restaurant.

Du Ruozhi ordered several local specialties from the restaurant and after tasting them carefully, she exclaimed, "Delicious, delicious."

Seeing Du Huaizhi's lack of interest, he added, "But compared to what my sister did, it's still not as good."

Du Huaizhi ignored Du Ruzhi and glanced out the window from time to time. Just now on the street, she saw a familiar green.

He is a ruthless person who is bound to cause death if he appears.

Logically speaking, this person should not appear in this area, as the orders from the southeast are usually taken over by her.

She was sent to the capital by that pervert not long ago, and today she saw someone who shouldn't be there. The only explanation is that this person was sent by that damn pervert.

As for who was going to be killed, Du Huaizhi had no idea. She sighed, fearing that tonight would not be peaceful.

Du Ruozhi noticed her strangeness and asked, "Sister, what's wrong?"

"It's okay." Du Huaizhi picked up the teacup and took a sip. "When we get back to the inn later, move the quilt to my room."

"Ah?" Du Ruozhi was puzzled, but quickly realized, "Sister, you want to live with me?"

Du Huaizhi raised his eyes to look at her, "No?"

"No, no." Du Ruozhi said quickly, a slight blush on her face, "Of course, I also want to live with my sister."

Du Huaizhi looked at her. She looked harmless and even smiled as she picked up some food for herself.

"Sister, try this. It's delicious."

But I just feel something is weird.

Here, the green was wandering around the street, and finally, by chance, it entered the inn where Du Huaizhi and his group were staying, and happened to pass by Xue Feiheng and his group who were out looking for food.

"Shopkeeper, please stay in the hotel." The emerald green voice sounded.

Xie Sui turned his head and looked. The man spoke and behaved in a gentle and elegant manner, with clear eyes that revealed a scholarly air, looking like a handsome scholar.

The man caught Xie Sui's gaze, turned and looked over, smiling slightly, his smile friendly yet polite.

Xie Sui let down his guard and nodded slightly at him.

Du Huaizhi and the other man returned to the inn, took a shower, turned off the lights and lay down on the bed.

With someone else around her, Du Huaizhi's instinctive vigilance kept her awake for a long time. When she turned over, she saw Du Ruozhi lying on her side, facing her. Her eyes were bright in the night. She didn't know how long she had been looking at her like that.

Seeing that Du Huaizhi was not asleep either, Du Ruozhi couldn't help but have some ideas. She slowly crawled towards Du Huaizhi with her little hands, pinched the corner of her clothes and pulled it.

"Sister."

Du Huaizhi turned sideways to face her, "Hmm?"

Du Ruozhi's eyes lit up when she got the response. "Sister, can you call me Zhizhi?"

The word "Zhizhi" should be Du Ruozhi's maiden name, but the repetition of these two words sounded too intimate when called out, and Du Huaizhi paused for a long time and was unable to call out the words.

Du Ruozhi was still waiting eagerly.

Du Huaizhi couldn't stand being looked at, so he took a step back and called her "Erzhi".

Unexpectedly, as soon as this name came out, Du Ruozhi shuddered and propped herself up from the bed, "Sister! It's Zhizhi, Zhizhi."

Du Huaizhi reached out and pushed her down, "I know, I know. Isn't Zhizhi the same as Erzhi? Don't make noises so late at night."

Du Ruozhi was so anxious that she wanted to bite someone because this name brought back some bad memories.
