Chapter 62 The Cabbage Was Pulled Away
He took off the funny mask on his face, his eyes fell on her slightly red eyes, and his tone was full of concern, "Are your eyes uncomfortable?"
Du Ruozhi hurriedly shook her head and subconsciously wanted to rub it with her hands, but Xie Sui gently held her wrist. "Don't rub it," he said gently. "Rubbing it will make it more uncomfortable. Close your eyes and rest for a while. It will be fine."
His fingertips were slightly cool, but the touch made Du Ruozhi feel the skin on her wrist burning hot. Her heart was beating like a drum, and she closed her eyes obediently, her long eyelashes trembling slightly with nervousness.
Fireworks continued to bloom in the sky, and the roar covered everything around her, but she could clearly hear her own rapid heartbeat and feel his gaze on her face. She turned her back in a messy manner.
Xie Sui looked at the furry back of his head and the slightly reddish tips of his ears, his smile deepening. He didn't approach again, but said gently, "I'm sorry for being so rude and frightening Erzhi."
Du Ruozhi had her back to him. When she heard that, she trembled all over like a cat being stroked around the waist, and shook her head wildly, "No... no..." Her voice was muffled. She felt the heat on her face and her heart was still beating uncontrollably fast.
The feeling of leaning on his chest just now seemed to still remain, and the clear scent of pine ink lingered at the tip of my nose, unable to be shaken off.
The fireworks stopped at this moment, the night sky returned to silence, and people's voices became lower. This silence made the atmosphere between the two people even more subtle.
"Ahem." Xie Sui cleared his throat, breaking the silence. "Are your eyes feeling better?"
These words immediately reminded Du Ruozhi of her embarrassment just now, and her face flushed again. "It's... much better." She turned around, lowered her head, and did not dare to look him in the eye.
Her eyes had nowhere to go, and finally fell on the conspicuous pink sachet on his waist, and she couldn't help but be stunned.
Xie Sui followed her gaze, his lips curled up slightly, "This sachet is very good, it calms the mind and soothes the spirit. I like it very much." He paused, and lowered his voice, "Thank you very much for the gift, Miss Erzhi."
"You're welcome..." Du Ruozhi's voice was as soft as a mosquito's hum. When she sent it out, she didn't expect that he would actually bring it out.
The night wind blew by, bringing with it the coolness of the river water. Du Ruozhi, who was wearing thin clothes, shivered subconsciously.
His clothes still carried his warm body temperature and the pleasant scent of pine ink, enveloping Du Ruozhi completely. She looked up and met his gentle eyes.
"It's a cold night, don't catch a cold." He whispered, smoothing her clothes. His fingertips accidentally brushed against her jaw, causing a slight shudder.
Du Ruozhi forgot to refuse, and forgot to speak, just staring at him blankly. The sky full of fireworks rose into the sky again, blooming brilliantly behind him, but it seemed as if they had become his background.
"I..." She opened her mouth, her cheeks flushed, her heart beating like a drum, and she couldn't squeeze out a complete sentence for a long time.
Du Huaizhi, who was secretly observing from a distance, twitched his mouth. Putting aside where Xie Sui learned these old tricks from, Du Ruzhi was really useless. She was so provoked that she couldn't even speak after just a few words.
Seeing that Xie Sui was about to make a move, Du Huaizhi suddenly lowered the pillar beside him and was about to step forward to save the cabbage that was about to be eaten, when suddenly a cold wind blew.
"Where are you going, ma'am?"
The voice was low and pleasant, with a barely perceptible lazy smile, and it came close to her ear like a ghost without warning.
Du Huaizhi: "..." His whole body stiffened and he slowly turned around.
Li Siyu had been standing silently behind her without her knowing, and his ink-black brocade robe with dark patterns almost blended into the shadows.
Du Huaizhi didn't know when his perception became so poor. He didn't even notice such a big dirty thing approaching.
He leaned forward slightly, his light purple eyes gleaming mysteriously in the night, looking at her with a half-smile, "Are you secretly scolding me?"
"No." Du Huaizhi turned his face away seriously.
"Really?" Li Siyu chuckled, raising her hand to support herself on the pillar behind her, her breath brushing against her ear. "Then what were you doing just now?"
Du Huaizhi was trapped in this small space with him, the cold columns behind her and his omnipresent presence in front of her. She forced herself to calm down and raised her eyes to meet his probing gaze. "I didn't do anything."
Li Siyu raised an eyebrow and looked up, then saw two familiar faces standing by the river not far away. "Is that your sister?"
"Yeah." This reminded Du Huaizhi, who pushed him away and turned his head to continue observing.
Li Siyu was pushed back half a step by her, but he was not annoyed. Instead, he crossed his arms and leaned lazily on the porch pillar. His eyes were also cast towards the couple by the river, with a playful smile on the corner of his lips.
"Tsk." He tutted softly and shook his head. "This guy usually looks so serious and proper, but I didn't expect that when it comes to coaxing a little girl, he's quite skilled."
Du Huaizhi ignored him. The two of them were still looking at each other, talking intermittently. The next moment, Xie Sui suddenly took action and slowly moved closer.
Depend on--
Du Huaizhi narrowed his eyes slightly, clenched his fists, and his knuckles made a crackling sound.
On this side, Du Ruozhi was at a loss what to do and turned her head away. Then she saw Du Huaizhi looking at her from a distance, and Li Siyu staring at her from behind.
Her eyes lit up and she pulled away nimbly, "Sister!" The call of "Sister" was crisp and bright, instantly breaking the charming yet awkward atmosphere by the river.
Xie Sui: "..." He slowly put down his hands, straightened his slightly messy sleeves, and his face returned to its usual calmness, but the slight blush at the base of his ears revealed his discomfort.
Du Ruozhi lifted her skirt and almost staggered away from Xie Sui, running quickly towards Du Huaizhi, "Sister, you are here." Then, as if she had just seen Li Siyu, the smile on her face faded, and she reluctantly called out "brother-in-law".
When he looked at Du Huaizhi again, a smile appeared on his face again.
Xie Sui walked over and bowed awkwardly in the direction of Du Huaizhi and Li Siyu: "Greetings, Crown Prince and Crown Princess."
Li Siyu nodded slightly as a return gesture, but his eyes wandered with interest between Xie Sui's slightly red ears and Du Ruozhi's evasive eyes, and the playful smile at the corner of his lips deepened.
Xie Sui understood his look and turned his head away awkwardly.
Du Huaizhi pinched Du Ruozhi's little face and said, "Explain, you..."
Before she finished speaking, Du Ruozhi quickly held her hand and said with a dry laugh: "Ah... Sister, I'm hungry. Brother-in-law is here too, let's go eat first."
"Are you all going?" Li Siyu spoke at this time and looked at Xie Sui with a smile.
Du Huaizhi rarely opposed Li Siyu and looked at Du Ruzhi, waiting for her reply.
