Chapter 63: Unromantic
Du Ruozhi's scalp tingled under the gazes of the two men, especially Li Siyu's smiling yet deeply meaningful eyes, which made her feel like she was being roasted on a fire. She quickly glanced at Xie Sui and saw that he still had his eyes slightly lowered, the blush on his ears still not completely fading, and he looked like he was at the mercy of others... no, he looked like he was letting it go.
She made up her mind, thinking that since she had been caught, she might as well find someone to take the blame for her crime. So she bit the bullet and said, "Uh... if, if Master Xie doesn't mind..."
"I don't mind." Xie Sui responded almost immediately, raising his head and looking at Li Siyu and Du Huaizhi calmly, but his slightly tense jaw revealed his nervousness. "I haven't had my meal yet, so if the Crown Prince and the Crown Princess don't mind bothering me..."
Du Huaizhi sighed secretly in his heart, it is true that a girl cannot be kept at home when she grows up, "In that case, let's go together."
The four of them walked down the street. After the fireworks ended, the crowds gradually dispersed. Du Ruozhi unnoticeably pushed Li Siyu aside, holding Du Huaizhi's arm, and walked together in front.
Li Siyu and Xie Sui were walking five steps behind.
"When did it happen?" Du Huaizhi spoke without reservation, and the two martial artists behind him could hear it clearly.
Xie Sui's expression was obviously a little unnatural. But Du Ruozhi had no time to look at her. She hugged Du Huaizhi's arm tightly and said, "This is a long story, so I won't say it."
"Are you sure you don't want to tell me?" Du Huaizhi said in a light tone.
Du Ruozhi's heart skipped a beat. She wanted to, but it was hard to bring it up. She didn't know where to start. She glanced behind her and leaned closer. Du Huaizhi tilted his head in agreement. Du Ruozhi whispered, "I'll tell you in detail tonight when no one is around."
Du Huaizhi raised his head and looked at her red, pleading face. He didn't bother her any further and nodded, "Okay."
Du Ruozhi finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Behind him, Li Siyu walked calmly, his dark robe fluttering gently with his movements. He didn't look at Xie Sui, but instead focused on Du Huaizhi's back. "I heard that Lord Xie is highly regarded by His Majesty. He has a promising future."
Xie Sui leaned slightly to the side, maintaining a respectful distance. "I am honored to receive your Majesty's favor. I feel ashamed to accept it. I will do my duty diligently and live up to your expectations."
"Diligence is good." Li Siyu raised the corner of his mouth with a faint arc. "But I heard that the Dali Temple messed up a few tasks, and it just so happened that Lord Xie took over them."
Xie Sui's footsteps paused imperceptibly, then he returned to normal. "The prince is well-informed." His voice was calm. "It is true. Those cases appear to be unrelated, but in fact, they are interconnected. They involve a wide range of issues, making the investigation difficult."
"Really?" Li Siyu looked confused, but in fact his eyes were very clear. Xie Sui couldn't guess what he meant.
"I heard that the prince wants to send the prince to the Ministry of Justice." Xie Sui asked tentatively.
"Oh, forget it." Li Siyu waved his hands, his face sluggish. "I have no achievements and no experience. How can I take on the responsibility of the Ministry of Justice?"
That old guy was worrying about nothing. Seeing that he had been lying in bed for a few days, he was displeased with him in various ways. He either asked him to play chess or challenge him to study, because he just couldn't stand him being idle.
"Your Highness is too modest." Xie followed his words and said, "Your Highness is very far-sighted. If you have made such an arrangement, there must be a reason. Since Your Highness was able to enter Qingshan Academy with his common status, he must be very talented. If he is willing to work hard, he will surely be able to handle the affairs of the Ministry of Justice with ease."
Li Siyu scoffed, "I have no interest in that Ministry of Justice. Their foresight is just a way of finding work for me because they can't stand my idleness. Life is but a few short decades long. How can being on duty be as relaxing as traveling with my wife?"
He said this in a nonchalant manner, even with a bit of the dissolute air of a dandy, as if he really was a prince who only knew how to enjoy himself and was not capable of doing anything important.
But Xie Sui looked at the glint in his eyes and didn't dare to relax at all. This Prince Cheng was definitely not as simple as he seemed.
"The Crown Prince and the Crown Princess are in love with each other, which is enviable." Xie Sui lowered his eyes, hiding his thoughts, and his tone returned to his usual gentle and respectful tone.
He wanted to avoid the topic by raising the issue, but Li Siyu refused to let him have his way. He asked with a smile, "How did you know that my wife and I are so in love?"
Xie Sui was choked by this straightforward yet tricky question, and for a moment he didn't know how to answer. He couldn't say that it was you, the prince, who had forced her to do so, and that there was no sincerity in your wife, could he?
In front, Du Ruozhi's ears pricked up quietly, and even Du Huaizhi's originally steady steps were disturbed for a moment.
Li Siyu seemed completely oblivious to what he said. He continued to pace slowly, glancing sideways at Xie Sui. "Why? Lord Xie, do you think my wife and I don't seem like a loving couple?"
This question is becoming increasingly tricky.
To say that he is similar may seem like prying into the prince's private affairs.
To say that they don’t look alike is extremely disrespectful.
Moreover, Xie Sui had a feeling that if his answer did not satisfy Li Siyu, he would be killed without a burial place. The Li Siyu in front of him was far more oppressive than Li Cunjiu.
Xie Sui's forehead was slightly sweaty, so he had to bite the bullet and say, "Your Highness is joking. I just saw how caring and considerate you are to the Crown Princess, so I felt emotional." He said this very reluctantly, and even he felt that there were many loopholes in it.
As expected, a smile suddenly broke out on Li Siyu's face.
"Caring? Thoughtful?" He repeated these two words, his voice deliberately raised a little, and then he laughed softly.
His laughter was magnetic and pleasant, but it made the hairs on Xie Sui's back stand up.
After laughing, Li Siyu suddenly raised his hand and patted Xie Sui on the shoulder, "Thank you, sir, for your good taste." Then he sighed, his tone resentful, "It's a pity that some people are born with cold temperaments and never understand romance."
These words were meaningful, and the voice was neither too loud nor too soft, just loud enough to float clearly into the ears of the two people in front.
Du Ruozhi suddenly covered her mouth, her eyes widened, and she secretly looked at Du Huaizhi.
Du Huaizhi: “…”
That bastard is making trouble again.
He unconsciously quickened his pace, taking Du Ruozhi with him, and left the annoying noise behind him far behind.
Li Siyu took in her reaction and the smile on his lips deepened. He withdrew his hand from Xie Sui's shoulder and resumed his lazy posture.
"Master Xie seems to be a little older than me." Li Siyu said suddenly. Xie Sui didn't dare to say anything more about the incoherent and volatile conversation just now, for fear that Li Siyu would set him up again.
"yes."
"Then wouldn't it be too much of a loss for you to call me brother-in-law?" Li Siyu said with a teasing tone.
