Chapter 64: Status

Chapter 64: Status

Xie Sui: “…”

He was completely stunned. His intuition told him that Li Siyu's words had a deeper meaning and were definitely not as simple as the literal meaning.

Li Siyu just stared at him, waiting for his reply.

The atmosphere between the two was deadlocked for a while, but Du Huaizhi couldn't stand it anymore and said, "He wanted to ask when you were going to get married, and he also said that you were an old cow eating young grass."

Du Huaizhi over-interpreted the second half of the sentence, but the meaning was basically the same, and Li Siyu did not refute it.

Seeing Xie Sui's face stiffen a bit, Du Huaizhi realized that Du Ruozhi was right beside him. To avoid embarrassing himself in front of Du Ruozhi, Du Huaizhi praised him a few times, "Master Xie is a rare young talent. Age is not a problem, and the difference is not too big."

After a pause, he continued, "But Zhizhi is the apple of the Du family's eye. She's more than enough for you. Let's see how you do."

Xie Sui turned to look at Du Ruozhi, his expression helpless, "Of course I am willing, but..."

At this time, Du Ruozhi tugged at Du Huaizhi's sleeve, wanting to say something but stopping herself. Before she could say anything, Li Siyu intervened and said something shocking.

"Auntie, are you not going to give Master Xie a title?"

Du Ruozhi's face flushed red at the sudden questioning, and her fingertips twisted her sleeves unconsciously, "No... not... I..." Facing the gazes of the three people, she couldn't even utter a complete sentence.

Du Huaizhi finally couldn't stand it anymore, pulled his sister behind him, and looked at Li Siyu coldly, "You should stop, she is not someone you can joke with."

Li Siyu met her angry gaze, but instead of being afraid, he blinked innocently, "Madam, what do you mean? I just want to help my sister and future brother-in-law. I want to make things happen as soon as possible to avoid any more trouble. What's wrong with that?"

Then he turned to look at Xie Sui, "Don't you agree? Sir Xie."

Xie Sui took a deep breath and said, "Your Highness, this matter concerns my reputation and life. It is no joke. Proposing marriage, offering betrothal gifts, and engaging in marriage through three matchmakers and six engagements all require strict etiquette and serious conduct. How could I, out of impatience, act rashly and wrong my Highness? I hope your Highness will understand."

His words were neither humble nor arrogant. They not only showed his intentions and determination, but also brought the topic, which was led to a point of no return by Li Siyu, back on track.

Li Siyu looked at him, her peach blossom eyes slightly narrowed, as if she was weighing the weight of his words, or as if she was thinking about something else. The pressure in the air suddenly increased.

Only Du Huaizhi knew what he was thinking, which was nothing more than thinking about how he had used sweet words and treacherous schemes to force her to buy something.

After a moment, he suddenly chuckled, and the tense atmosphere instantly dissipated. "What a gentleman's behavior, with three matchmakers and six betrothals. It makes me, your brother-in-law, look unreasonable."

Xie Sui didn't dare to respond to this, because if he did, it would mean that he, Li Siyu, was a villain, not a gentleman.

However, this villain did not play by the rules at all. "Will the Madam blame me?"

Du Huaizhong didn't expect that he would turn around and turn the spearhead towards her, "What do you blame?" Until now, so much time has passed, she has never thought of blaming him for anything, and sometimes she even feels that he is the one who suffered the loss.

"When we got married, the ceremony and banquet were simple. Will you blame me for being impolite?" Although she said so, Li Siyu looked at her with a smile, showing no guilt at all.

Du Huaizhi was too lazy to argue with him and said directly, "No." Feeling that the two words were not convincing, he added, "At that time, you didn't recognize the Regent, and I was also expelled from the family. It's okay to keep everything simple."

Li Siyu didn't say anything else. He looked at her and then looked away.

"Sister." Du Ruozhi said at this time: "It turns out that you have suffered so much injustice outside, even the important matter of marriage..." She paused and deliberately glanced at Li Siyu, "It was handled so hastily."

Upon hearing this, Li Siyu chuckled and said, "My sister-in-law doesn't understand. In some matters, quality is more important than quantity. No matter how thorough the etiquette is, it will be in vain if the person is not right." While speaking, his eyes met Du Huaizhi again.

"If Madam is willing, it won't be too late to make up for these etiquette later."

Du Huaizhi raised his hand and declined politely.

"What's past is past. There's no need to mobilize troops. Right now," she turned her gaze to Du Ruozhi and Xie Sui, "it's more important to take care of the people in front of us first."

Li Siyu didn't seem surprised by her rejection. Instead, he seemed to have expected her to answer like that. He replied graciously, "Madam, you are right."

"Have you... told your father and mother?" Du Huaizhi asked.

Du Ruozhi twisted her lips and shook her head gently.

Looking at Xie Sui again, he also shook his head, "Xie can decide his own marriage, my mother will not have any objection."

What this meant was that he was waiting for Du Ruozhi to confirm. If she was sure, everything would be fine.

Du Huaizhi's gaze lingered on Xie Sui's frank face for a moment, then he looked at his sister's uneasy look, and he already understood in his heart.

Just as Li Siyu said, he didn't want to give Xie Sui a formal status. Du Huaizhi raised his hand and touched his nose, "Let's go eat first."

The four of them finally stepped into the private room of the restaurant. Exquisite dishes had already filled the table, and the aroma filled the air. However, the atmosphere at the table was still a little subtle.

Li Siyu seemed to be completely unaware and was quite "considerate" in picking up food and removing fish bones for Du Huaizhi.

Du Huaizhi looked at the fish and various vegetables and meat piled in the bowl, as if she was being fed like a pig, and pushed the bowl aside calmly.

Seeing this, Li Siyu raised his eyebrows and asked, "Madam, why don't you eat? Is it not to your liking?" His tone was concerned, but there was a teasing in his eyes.

Du Huaizhi didn't bother to pay attention to him and just said lightly: "I'm full."

"Are you full after eating only this much?" Li Siyu pretended to be surprised.

Du Huaizhi glanced at him coldly, gritting his teeth, "Can you be quiet?"

Li Siyu didn't hold back. He put down his chopsticks and tapped the table lightly with his fingertips. He said in a deliberately subdued voice, "Madam, are you annoyed by my noise? But just now outside the private room, who said you had to take care of the people in front of you? I was just taking care of you, Madam. I was worried that she would be hungry."

As soon as these words were spoken, Du Ruozhi paused holding the chopsticks, secretly raised her eyes to glance at her sister's red ears, then quickly lowered her head, pretending to concentrate on picking the rice grains in the bowl.

Du Huaizhi took a deep breath, suppressed the nameless anger in his heart, picked up a piece of fish from the bowl and stuffed it into Li Siyu's bowl, "You eat it, so it won't be wasted."

Li Siyu glanced at it, said nothing, and ate the fish with rice in silence.

The private room fell into a brief silence, but it didn't last long before Du Ruozhi's voice broke it: "Sister, this crab meat tofu looks delicious, would you like to try it?"
