Chapter 8 Suspicion
Du Huaizhi paused for a long while. Even though she was knowledgeable and experienced, she was enlightened today. Although she was not sure of the specific identity of the person in front of her, she didn't think he was someone who would care about these things.
I can only say that she still lacks experience.
"It's a small business. We're not responsible for anything we do once we've made a purchase." Du Huaizhi asked, "Are you going to fry it or not?"
"Fry them." Xue Feiheng took out the remaining five pancakes and handed them to Du Huaizhi along with the one Xie Sui handed over. "Fry them all and save them for dinner."
Du Huaizhi greased the iron pan with oil quickly, and in order to avoid further arguments with him, he did not ask him for the packing fee.
Xue Feiheng took out his purse, and six copper coins came out of it. He turned the light purse upside down and shook it, but not a single cent came out.
With a slightly embarrassed look, he turned to look at Xie Sui who was standing beside him, "Thank you, sir~"
"Where is your monthly salary?" Xie Sui took out his purse, hesitating whether to indulge him.
This is a good question. Xue Feiheng took the purse very smoothly and said, "Just eat and drink as you please every day, buy any gadgets you like, and then suddenly the money is gone." He counted out the full number of copper coins and put them on the stall, then took out a piece of silver and returned the purse to Xie Sui.
Xie Sui stared at the silver he had taken away: "?"
"This is the money for the wontons." Xue Feiheng put the silver into his pocket without blushing or beating his heart.
Two bowls of wontons definitely won’t cost that much money, so the rest... hehehe.
Xie Sui: “…”
Sometimes I really want to report it to the police.
Du Ruozhi stared at the pancakes that were constantly flipping on the iron pan. The originally off-white pancakes were fried until golden brown. The fragrance wafted in the air, and her stomach, which had not yet had breakfast, began to rumble.
"Sister, can I have one?" Du Ruozhi asked in a low voice in Du Huaizhi's ear. She had never eaten this kind of cake before.
"Three cents." Du Huaizhi didn't even look at her.
Du Ruozhi was stunned, then realized that she was talking about the price of the cakes, and silently took out her wallet to pay.
During this time, a cold and sharp gaze fell on her. Du Ruozhi felt her scalp tingling. She hid to the side of Du Huaizhi and glared at him with one eye.
Xie Sui withdrew his gaze, turned around and left, returning to the wonton shop he had been to before.
Only after he walked away did Du Ruozhi lean out, lowering her head, not knowing what she was thinking. The scene in front of her flashed, and Du Ruozhi looked closely. It turned out to be a pancake half wrapped in oil paper, with bubbles of oil still sizzling on the surface.
Du Ruozhi smiled sweetly and took it with both hands, "Thank you, sister."
“Remember to pay.”
Xue Feiheng followed after getting the pancake. After sitting down, he looked towards the street. From this angle, he could no longer see the stall. "Did you notice Miss Du's hand just now?"
Upon hearing this, Xie Sui looked at him with strange eyes.
Xue Feiheng saw Xie Sui's reaction and knew that he didn't have it. Why would a gentleman like him stare at a girl's hand for no reason? But when investigating a case, many details are often missed.
Seeing Xue Feiheng's frustrated look, Xie Sui took a deep breath and said, "Tell me what you found."
Xue Feiheng didn't keep the secret and said, "The way she held the shovel just now was clearly the way she habitually held a knife. Although she tried to hide it, it's a habit that can't be changed."
"I saw her yesterday, and I thought she was strange. I was intercepted by bandits on the road, and there was some blood on my body. She was a girl, and the eldest daughter of a wealthy family, but she was able to remain calm when she saw the blood."
"Later, I deliberately asked around and found out that this person was selling pancakes here for the first time. Furthermore, the aura in her eyes during the confrontation just now was completely unlike that of a pancake seller."
Xie Sui thought carefully and vaguely saw some clues, "You mean to say that she is not the eldest daughter of the Du family."
Xue Feiheng: "..." Are their focuses different? "Let's put that aside for now. What I mean is that she is very likely..." Xue Feiheng traced the word "Xi" on the table with his fingers.
Psychopaths who kill people frequently know that there is a high probability that the murderer will return to the crime scene after killing someone, enjoying the scene of the government sending people to investigate and the people panicking and talking about it.
"Impossible." Xie Sui said.
"Why is it impossible?"
"Women's talent for martial arts is inherently inferior to men's. Throughout history, when has a woman ever been among the most powerful? And who is Xi? How could he be selling pancakes on the street?"
"yawn--"
Du Huaizhi tilted his head and sneezed.
Du Ruozhi, who was eating a cake, turned her head to look at her, "Sister, what's wrong with you? Did you catch a cold?" Du Ruozhi asked with concern, and her little hand unconsciously reached out to Du Huaizhi's forehead.
Du Huaizhi turned his head away, his brows furrowed, his eyes unusually cold. He knew with his toes that it must be those two birdmen again.
"It's okay." She answered briefly, pressing the spatula in her hand hard on the pancake, making a "hiss" sound.
Du Ruozhi retracted her hand and continued to nibble on the pancake, but her eyes kept stealing glances at Du Huaizhi's profile. When her sister was angry... she was quite intimidating.
Xue Feiheng was persuaded by Xie Sui's words. Indeed, a master as powerful as "Xi" would be well treated in the Tiandihui. He would not condescend to sell pancakes for two or three cents on the street.
"It's not easy for a woman to live outside. She may know some knife skills for self-defense, but she doesn't want to be looked at strangely by others, so she deliberately concealed it." Xie Sui said again.
After entering the Dali Temple, there were too many files about women. They were all about women who were too weak, had no identity or background, met the wrong person, and would not end up well even if they rose up to resist.
Xue Feiheng was completely convinced and fell into deep reflection. Perhaps he was indeed too suspicious.
As the sun rose higher, the number of people in the market began to thin out. Du Huaizhi began to pack up his stall, while Du Ruozhi helped him a little clumsily, almost knocking over the oil bottle several times.
"Sister, where are you going next?" Du Ruozhi asked cautiously.
Du Huaizhi didn't even raise his head: "Go home."
"Then...can I go back with you?" Du Ruozhi's voice became even softer, as if she was afraid of being rejected. "I promise not to cause any more trouble."
Du Huaizhi pretended to look up at the sky, but he was actually looking at a man who was peeking at him at the street corner not far away.
It was obvious that he was coming for Du Ruozhi. He was really stupid. He didn't even notice that someone had followed him all the way. Du Huaizhi was speechless and said calmly, "It's up to you."
Du Ruozhi's eyes lit up, and she was inwardly celebrating, when she suddenly felt a chill on her back. She turned her head sharply and saw a dark shadow flash by the corner of the street, so fast that it seemed almost an illusion.
Du Ruozhi trotted to catch up with Du Huaizhi and couldn't help but move closer to Du Huaizhi.
