All the members of dormitory 628 at Chang Ming University are still in their dreams, with the heaters humming quietly in the room.
Ding.
[Please spend 30 million within 4 days]
An abrupt voice rang in Yu Ting’s mind, comparable to the force of an alarm clock, instantly waking her up from her dream. Her eyebrows furrowed in dissatisfaction before she fell back to sleep.
Too early in the winter morning.
What could she spend the money on?
Dingling.
Dingling.
Just as she might have drifted back to sleep, her cellphone sitting on the bedside table began to ring, vibrating noisily on the tabletop.
This is the end.
Yu Ting squints her eyes open for the second time, reaching out from her blanket to scramble for her cell phone.
The caller ID reads: Song Zhan.
"Hello?"
An anxious voice comes through the phone from the other side.
"Hello, Yu Ting..."
Something seems off about his voice.
"Huh? What’s the matter with you?" Yu Ting held the phone in puzzlement.
"A few projects in the company seem to be doomed for a loss, and quite substantial losses at that..." The male voice on the other end conveyed a sense of self-blame.
Upon hearing about the financial loss, Yu Ting instantly became alert, her eyes wholly devoid of sleepiness.
She was certain some losses were bound to happen. When she and Song Zhan were choosing scripts before, besides some excellent ones intended for artist development, they’d both picked several common melodramas for investment, pouring all the money required by the system into them.
Everything was in place, waiting for him to suffer losses.
It turns out they’ve lost, just as expected.
"How much was lost?"
If Song Zhan’s 20 years of experience weren’t mistaken, he felt that Yu Ting seemed somewhat pleased.
Um.
"The total loss came from three projects, two web dramas and promotion for a new song. The total loss is roughly over 200 million..." Song Zhan’s voice gradually diminished towards the end. He had risen early to go to the company and was now in his office, busy inside and out.
Now the company was in total chaos. Not to mention the massive losses, the skepticism from employees towards the company, and who knows how the media will report it, makes the situation just bigger.
Moreover, after enduring such significant short-term losses, the company’s reserve funds would need to be restructured.
The problems were never-ending.
"Ok, I understand. I will head over to the company immediately." Yu Ting sat up from the bed, preparing to freshen up and get dressed.
From Chang Ming University to VG Company, the drive took more than half an hour. By the time Yu Ting arrived, it was almost eleven o’clock. Walking into Song Zhan’s office, she found him frazzled, with several pile of scripts spread before him.’
Yu Ting dragged over a chair from the side, sat down opposite Song Zhan, and scanned the scripts with a calm gaze, "What’s the situation?"
"We suffered losses." Song Zhan replied, his face serious.
Two web dramas, one chosen by Yu Ting and the other by Song Zhan, featuring themes of patriotism and familial love. They were unsure why such themes were made into web dramas, but Song Zhan decided to invest nonetheless.
The first episode had been aired for more than a month, attracting barely any viewers and producing little revenue. It seemed that the 90 million spent on investment would not be recuperated.
The drama picked by Yu Ting had the same fate, where the 70 million investment yielded only a little money in return.
The crucial part was that the company had carried out a series of promotions for a new song by the recently signed artist, Fu Tiantian. They even invited big-name celebrities to join, pouring heaps of money into advertisements, awaiting a massive success upon its release.
However, the new song showed no signs of success after several days of airing, thus another chunk of money went down the drain.
This situation stressed Song Zhan greatly and exceptionally. The company had made more losses in the past two months than in the previous two years.
The questionings from the outside world became more intense.
Yu Ting wasn’t particularly affected by the losses. She casually picked up a folder and flipped through it, "Does Director Lin have any web dramas that need investment?" She planned to spend the remaining 30 million with this.
Director Lin, the one who directed Song Zhan’s web drama that resulted in millions of losses.
Song Zhan: ?!
