With a pull, Lu Nanchen managed to yank Yu Ting to a safe position where she no longer needed to worry about bumping into the retreating crowd in front of her.
By the time Yu Ting could gather her thoughts, she had already ended up in Lu Nanchen’s arms, inhaling the pleasant scent saturated from his freshly washed clothes.
"Hmmmm alright, then I’ll wait for you in the car." Yu Ting, lifting her head, could see Lu Nanchen’s sharp jawline and eyelashes that hung like curtains from where she was looking.
His lower eyelashes appeared to be longer than those of others.
She gave Lu Nanchen a sweet smile. Her fair complexion added a serene softness under the sunset glow.
"Alright."
Upon noticing this, Lu Nanchen’s heart fluttered. He tightened his clasp around Yu Ting’s waist, offered her a protective hug, gave her a kiss on the forehead, and left, disappearing into the bustling crowd.
Four or five minutes after the school bell rang, you could see from the gate the teacher leading a line of neatly arranged children out from the school. The line disintegrated at the door, allowing students to scatter in different directions, each returning to their respective homes.
Taking advantage of his height and build, Lu Nanchen managed to weave his way through the crowd to the front. After waiting for a few waves of students, he finally spotted Lu Yan, who was taller than children of his age, in one of the lines.
Luyan’s backpack, newly replaced by Yu Ting, was bulging just like before. He was wearing a set of black winter school uniform teamed with a pair of cute little white shoes underneath.
Seeing him now made her feel much better than when she saw him at Dawn Elementary School. His face styled dimples as he grinned.
A little boy standing behind him continually patted his shoulder to chat, their amicable relationship evident.
After bidding farewell to his friend, the latter went to find his parents.
Lu Yan stood outside the school, looking perplexed for a while, but soon spotted the exceptionally tall Lu Nanchen in the crowd. He broke into a larger smile and ran over enthusiastically.
He jumped onto Lu Nanchen, cheerfully yelling, "Brother!"
"Hmm," Lu Nanchen replied, patting Lu Yan’s back gently. He then bent down to lift him up, "Your mom and dad have gone on a business trip. You’ll stay with your brother for a couple of days."
"Xiaobao knows! Mom told me. Xiaobao has packed all his clothes." Lu Yan said cheerfully. His backpack, filled with his jackets was not heavy, yet poofy—almost as large as him.
His cherubic face full of joy, he beamed at his accomplishments, having packed things so early.
Lu Nanchen eyed Lu Yan, then took a look at his conspicuous large backpack, furrowing his brows, puzzled.
"Why did you pack jackets just for two days?"
Lu Yan: ?
His smile stiffened. Safely nestled in Lu Nanchen’s arms, he lowered his head, pondering the question seriously.
The pair travelled in silence.
Once they got into the car, the quiet journey was interrupted as Lu Yan spotted Yu Ting in the passenger seat, becoming excited again. He leaned over from the backseat through the gap between the driver and passenger seat, looking at Yu Ting with interest, "Sister-in-law!"
"Yes?"
"How does Xiaobao feel about his new school?" Yu Ting turned to ask, giving Lu Xiaobao a warm smile.
"The new school is great! All the students love studying, hehe." Lu Xiaobao answered honestly, then, as if something occurred to him, he turned his head surveying the inside of the car and,
"Where’s my little brother?"
