Chapter 271 - 270: Lu Nanchen Tutoring Yu Ting in English (Extra Updates for Monthly Tickets)_1

...

Lu Nanchen was decisive in making decisions. That afternoon, he went to the bookstore to pick out books for Yu Ting relating to the English Intermediate Test, along with tapes and practice questions from past exams. When he returned, it had been over an hour and he’d bought about ten books.

Yu Ting sat on the sofa blankly, looking at the huge stack of books on the table: ......

"Song Zhan just called me and asked me to go on a business trip," she said.

Yu Ting tried to squirm a little.

But her attempt failed. After putting down the books, Lu Nanchen fetched several pens from the room. He glanced at Yu Ting, who was transparent with her intentions, and withdrew his gaze, saying, "I’ll call him in a bit."

"If it really comes down to it, I can go for you. You stay home to do exercises and listen to tapes. I can go in your place."

"But I think it would be better if the CEO went himself."

Having ignored Yu Ting’s comment, he arranged his pens and paper neatly on the table, picked up his mobile phone and dialed Song Zhan, placing the call on speaker.

The call was quickly answered, his handsome and fair hand resting on the black mobile phone.

"Hello? Song Zhan? Is there something at the company that requires Yu Ting’s attention?"

There was a brief pause at the other end of the line before an affirmative response came.

"Is it urgent?" Lu Nanchen asked.

Upon hearing these words, Yu Ting turned her head silently away.

"No, it’s not. The project only starts in May and that’s when they need someone to go out. It’s only March now."

Song Zhan’s clear voice rang out in the room. Yu Ting remained silent, but subconsciously turned her head a bit more, avoiding Lu Nanchen’s gaze.

"Okay, got it. You carry on with your work."

Lu Nanchen gave a cold glance at Yu Ting, then said a few brief words to Song Zhan before hanging up. He then put his mobile phone back in his pocket, sat down at the table, and waved at Yu Ting, saying, "Come and sit here."

"...I’m here."

Yu Ting felt that if she had committed a sin, she would be punished by the law, not by having Lu Nanchen tutoring her in English intensively over the weekend.

With that said, Yu Ting walked over to Lu Nanchen with what seemed like ’a brave face’, sat down next to him, and found a book titled "Essential Vocabulary for the College English Level 4 Test" in front of her.

Yu Ting: ...

"Don’t rush to memorize." Lu Nanchen said.

Yu Ting was a bit surprised.

"Learn to pronounce first."

Yu Ting: ...

"Listen to the recordings for how to pronounce these words."

Lu Nanchen assessed Yu Ting’s level and set a realistic study plan for her.

He then tapped on the screen of his phone, which was on the table, and started playing the recordings from the official website of the textbook.

"Breed"

"Swallow"

...

"Accelerate"

...

One English word after another went in one ear and out the other for Yu Ting, adding to her frustration.

It took her about half an hour to focus and start listening and spelling out the phonetics of these words, sometimes struggling to remember or spell some of them.

Yu Ting started notating the Chinese explanations next to them.

Lu Nanchen was there throughout, offering help.

After playing the recordings for her several times, Lu Nanchen let her try reading the words herself.

She could read some of the simpler ones, but when she came across the less commonly used ones, she stumbled and fumbled. Lu Nanchen frowned at the unexpected confusion.

Extraordinary

"E-szho-de-ray."

Lu Nanchen: ...

He then corrected Yu Ting’s pronunciation in a very standard and fluid accent, "Extraordinary."

"E-szho-de-ne-ray."

...
