While the couple here was enjoying some quiet time, the punishment segment was still ongoing on the other side with the production crew. Zhan Zheng struggled a bit when he hit the 16th squat, and the last 9 were done purely through gritted teeth, with his speed decreasing progressively.
By the time he finished, it was already half past six in the evening. Yu Ting had collected six seashells early on and was now back with Lu Nanchen in the group.
After all the activities ended, the crew showed no signs of packing up. The host looked at Yu Ting and a panting Zhan Zheng, and then said: "Our eight guests have been very dedicated in their activities. Coming up next is free time where you are not allowed to leave the beach. Take a break, and we will meet back here at eight for the second event of the day, which is a beachside barbeque."
"You will be grilling and eating your own food. Feel free to pick your ingredients."
After the host finished his instructions with a clap of his hands, the crowd dispersed.
You saw people resting, playing on their phones, swimming in the sea, or splashing water on each other.
Yu Ting and Lu Nanchen decided to spend some time in the shallows.
They passed the time till eight when the preparations for the event started.
When everyone gathered, they found that the crew had all the ingredients and tools prepared.
A perennially smiling host Changnian then said, "Welcome, guests, to today’s second event – a beachside barbeque. Choose any ingredients you want. We start at eight and finish at nine-thirty. We do have some penalties, but we’ll divulge those once we’re done. Please, start cooking."
Following his instructions, each couple collected a set of tools from the crew and chose their vegetables, fruit, and meat from the provided options.
All the ingredients were pre-cut and just needed to be skewered.
Lu Nanchen first went to the crew to ask something, then picked some meat followed by a few vegetables and fruits.
Upon returning, he and Yu Ting started skewering. After skewering three or four, Lu Nanchen started grilling while Yu Ting continued skewering.
Despite the heat that was cooking her face, Yu Ting kept on skewering on the side.
Lu Nanchen, sitting beside, kept an eye on Yu Ting while turning over the skewers and grilling. After seeing her skewer a few, he timely advised, "Skewer a little less, I’ll prepare some fruit for you next. Eating too much grilled food isn’t very healthy."
"Prepare fruit? Would the program team allow it?" Upon hearing the keyword, Yu Ting asked.
"Yeah, I forgot earlier. Special treatment for special reasons. I’ll eat the grilled ones."
"Alright then."
With a clear answer, Yu Ting slowed her skewering pace and started focusing on skewering what Lu Nanchen liked.
They took one and a half hours from skewering to grilling and finally eating. The crew first checked each guest couple’s progress, and then at exactly nine-thirty, they clapped their hands to draw everyone’s attention.
"Alright, it’s nine-thirty now. According to our staff, guest couple no. 2 have the most leftover skewers - three. Guest couple no. 1 has one leftover skewer, and guests 3 and 4 have none left. As we all know, food doesn’t come easy. So, in this second round, guest couple no. 2 has performed the worst."
"However, as we didn’t disclose this rule beforehand, there will be no punishment."
This was the impact they wanted. Had they revealed this rule upfront, most likely everyone would have swept their plates clean.
But the host added: "The no. 2 guests, however, will have to perform a bit of their talent."
