College life seemed both laidback and fleeting. After a few classes each day, most of the rest of my time was spent in the dormitory. There were no classes on weekends.
After receiving the medication Lu Nanchen gave her, Yu Ting applied it according to the instructions every day. Within four days, her leg had almost completely healed. When she went to class, the inexplicable gazes from her classmates significantly decreased. Thus, unscathed, she made it to September 30th, the day before the seven-day National Day vacation.
After finishing a programming and language-enhancement class in the afternoon, Yu Ting returned to her dormitory and took a long breath, excited for her first National Day holiday.
Upon arriving in dorm room 628, she saw a black suitcase by the wall—packed by Ning Xuan late last night.
Ning Xuan and Yu Ting entered the dormitory. Yu Ting dropped her books onto the table and sat down on the new white chair, wondering how to spend her vacation.
Ning Xuan placed her books on the side table and began to inspect her own bed. She double-checked whether she’d forgotten anything, then pulled her suitcase upright.
"Beibei, I’m off back home now."
"Mm."
Yu Ting replied from her seat on the chair.
"How are you spending your holiday? Are you really not going home?" Ning Xuan asked without hurry, standing beside Yu Ting.
Yu Ting suddenly leaned back into her chair, tilting her head back. Her hair spread out around her and her eyes were aimed at the stark white ceiling. She slid her feet along the ground, spinning her chair around.
"I guess."
She didn’t know if the Yu family had a house in Jiangqi City, but as far as she knew, she didn’t have one. Unless she lost her mind and chose to return to A City to endure her parents’ scorn, it was best to stay put.
"You should hurry up and leave, or you’ll miss your train." After a bit of thought, Yu Ting gave Ning Xuan an honest answer, waving her hands in the air, urging her to leave.
"Alright, I’m leaving then."
"Mm."
"I really am leaving. If you miss me, give me a call."
"Mm."
"I’ll bring you some local specialties when I come back."
"Ok."

The two chatted for a while longer before Ning Xuan finally left, dragging her suitcase behind her. As the door clicked shut, the formerly bustling dorm became quiet again. Yu Ting’s smile disappeared. Still in her previous pose, she spun around in her chair, her delicate legs playfully sliding across the floor.
Click, click.

Text message from: Mom
[Your father and I just talked to Nanchen. I hope you will behave yourself this time. You’re twenty, stop acting foolishly. Put some effort into improving yourself, understand?]
[If you cause trouble again or disobey me, I will only give you 1,000 yuan pocket money every month. Let’s see how you cope then.]
Yu Ting: ?
At a loss for why her mother would suddenly scold her, Yu Ting was utterly confused.
She tried to recall what she might have done in the past month; only attending classes, right?
??
Ring-ring-ring.
A few moments after puzzling over these events, the phone in her hand suddenly vibrated.
Call from: Lu Nanchen
?
Yu Ting swiped to answer the call.
"Hello?"
"It’s me."
The familiar deep male voice sounded, naturally cold.
"Your mom and my mom just called me. They said you’ll be staying with me for the seven-day National Holiday."
Yu Ting: ?
"Start packing your stuff."
