Lu Nanchen, whose face already had sharp features, looked even fiercer because of his anger, his eyes feeling as motionless as a dead marsh.
He thought, ’if a child is not disciplined, it is the father’s fault.’
The old man was also angry, intimidated by Lu Nanchen’s towering figure. Yet, his confidence surged when he noticed how cheaply Nanchen was dressed.
Just another poor person trying to look like something he’s not.
Xiaobao attended Dawn Elementary School, a typical school where the majority of students were children of migrant workers, with a small number of affluent families.
"Are you insane? You mark up my son and then you want him to apologize?"
"He started it! He pinched me and tossed my notebook and pen that Xiao Sao bought for me onto the ground..." Xiaobao retorted from the side, his voice dwindling, tear stains under his eyes. His plump lips pouted out, making him look pitiful.
Now both kids were crying, and the atmosphere between the two parents became increasingly tense. It was difficult even for the head teacher standing beside them to handle this situation. Other parents had noticed the scene, too, and if this went on, it would affect everyone around.
"Why don’t you two parents come with me to my office to discuss this matter?"
The female head teacher stood in the middle, making a few calming gestures with her hands in mid-air. She wore a forced smile on her face.
The old man sent the chubby boy home with his driver and went to the office himself.
Lu Nanchen put away the blade of the crafting knife and squatted down in front of Xiaobao. He wiped away the tears on Xiaobao’s face and then hugged him. With one hand supporting and the other on his back.
Xiaobao rested on Lu Nanchen’s shoulder, his head buried into Nanchen’s neck in no time, his voice low.
"Brother, did I cause trouble?"
"Not at all. If something like this happens again, tell me immediately." Lu Nanchen said, furrowing his brows.
Telling his dad wouldn’t make a difference.
He couldn’t out-talk or out-fight the others.
A scholarly gentleman.
"Okay." Xiaobao wrapped his arms around Nanchen’s neck, sobbing occasionally before sniffling.
The four of them quickly entered the office. It was discharge time, so there were only four people in the office.
Once inside, the old man sat on the teacher’s chair as if he owned it. The head teacher seemed quite used to this, even consciously making a pot of tea for him.
Apparently a regular visitor.
Now, the old man’s face was more frightening due to his anger. He was extremely upset with Lu Nanchen.
What’s there to be arrogant about?
Just a poor wretch.
"My son would never do such a thing. It’s this kid slandering my son. At a tender age, he only knows how to lie." The old man was the first to criticize Xiaobao.
Xiaobao didn’t want to talk to him, his grip on Nanchen’s shoulder tightened.
"The head teacher can vouch that my son never did such a thing." The old man sounded particularly relaxed and frivolous when he said this.
It was as if he was sure that the head teacher would take his side.
"Yes, yes, he definitely couldn’t have done such a thing. He’s always well-behaved in class." The head teacher, standing next to the old man, was obsequious, a radiant smile on her face.
What the old man said was law.
"I know what you’re playing at. All you want is to blackmail me for money, isn’t it?"
