Chapter 26 Chapter 26
Mr. Wen lived at the foot of a beautiful mountain in the north. The doctor said it was a good place for recuperation and the environment was pleasant. Fortunately, the traffic was not congested, but when Wen Shuo arrived, he was still a little late.
Dinner was about to begin. Wen Shuo went back to his room to change into something more formal, then went to greet his grandfather. Luckily, the old man was in a good mood tonight and didn't scold him for being late.
The process of this year's birthday party was the same as usual. After the guests took their seats, my grandfather and some other city leaders spoke first, and then Wen Shuo would come on stage. Often at this time, my grandfather would show off his "brilliant" resume from childhood to adulthood in front of everyone, and then everyone would express their praise enthusiastically. Finally, the banquet began, and everyone toasted each other and talked and laughed. After three rounds of drinks, the birthday party was nearing its end.
Wen Shuo finished his part of the socializing and left before the cake ceremony began. He didn't particularly enjoy these kinds of occasions; rather than stay here, he decided to return to his room.
Wen Shuo walked through the familiar corridor in his memory and found his childhood bedroom. When he was about to push the door open, he seemed to hear some noise coming from the next room.
Usually, few people come here and it has been idle for a long time. Wen Shuo subconsciously glanced at the door beside him and pushed it open without thinking.
In fact, he later regretted his curiosity.
After two awkward and flustered seconds, Wen Shuo, who was the first to react, said, "Sorry to bother you. Please continue."
He turned around to close the door and leave, but Wen Shi called out to him, "Stop, you little bastard."
Wen Shuo waited outside the door for a while. Although Wen Shi had simply straightened his clothes, his tie was still a little loose and messy. Wen Shuo was glad that he had arrived a few minutes early. At least his parents were still wearing clothes.
"Dad, could you please restrain yourself? It's broad daylight..." Wen Shuo was helpless.
Wen Shi: "Hey, you are right."
Wen Shuo: "I have something else to do, so I'll leave first."
Wen Shi quickly said, "Come back. I haven't seen your dad for so long. Why isn't he so enthusiastic at all?"
Wen Shuo: "Compared to me, your wife must miss you more right now. We'll have plenty of opportunities to talk about this later."
Wen Shi: "...you kid. Alright, hurry up and stay somewhere else for a while, don't disturb our world of two."
Wen Shuo: "Leave."
Before he could take a step, Wen Shi called out to him again: "Happy 18th birthday, son."
Wen Shuo replied: "Well, thanks, Dad."
Sometimes Wen Shuo feels that his parents are the true love and he is just an accident.
Wen Shi was also a handsome and elegant young man when he was young. When he first saw Jiang Lan on the campus of Peking University, he said that he fell in love with her at first sight. Then he launched a fierce pursuit and finally won her heart.
These were all told by Wen Shi to Wen Shuo later. Although there were some exaggerations in them, for example, Wen Shi only went to Peking University to attend the adult MBA advanced course, the love between the two was real.
When Wen Shi initially wanted to be with Jiang Lan, Wen Yusheng was completely against it. He had already chosen a marriage partner for Wen Shi. In his time, marriage was simply a matter of parents' orders and matchmakers' words, but Wen Shi was adamant, insisting he would marry Jiang Lan, even breaking with his family and not contacting him for years. Consequently, Wen Shi didn't follow his father's plan to enter politics, but instead started his own business and now has a considerable business abroad.
After they got together, Jiang Lan received a full scholarship to continue her studies abroad, and Wen Shi followed her. They had nothing when they got married abroad, but fortunately, the ending was a happy one. Wen Shi fulfilled his promise and gave Jiang Lan a stable future. Later, Wen Shuo was born and gradually grew up. After much consideration, Jiang Lan decided to let Wen Shuo return to China to study.
By then, Wen Yusheng's relationship with Wen Shi had eased considerably. He had sincerely apologized to Jiang Lan, and the incident was finally over. Jiang Lan had also returned to China to allow Wen Shuo to study, and since school had to be completed, Wen Shuo had to start school later than his peers. Consequently, his eighteenth birthday came earlier than others.
Perhaps even Wen Shuo himself didn't know that he inherited some of his father's romantic fantasies, such as the reckless drive and the fact that his eyes could only accommodate the person he liked.
Unable to go to the bedroom, Wen Shuo had to walk around outside for a while, and finally waited until the party was over. Today's party was grand, and it was obvious that Wen Yusheng was very satisfied, so Wen Shuo had successfully fulfilled his obligations as the eldest grandson of the Wen family.
After the show, he asked the driver to take him home first. No one else was home yet at this hour, and Wen Shuo didn't bother to message him. After all, he couldn't do it again. He took a shower and returned to the bedroom. When he turned on the desk lamp, he saw the gifts Wen Shi and Jiang Lan had given him on the table.
The gift box looked small, but the contents were rich. Wen Shuo opened it and found a letter, a car key, a property certificate, and a pair of wedding rings.
This pair of wedding rings was the one Wen Shi used to propose to Jiang Lan, and it witnessed that desperate love. And now, Jiang Lan passed it to Wen Shuo.
Wen Shuo showed little interest in the valuable car keys and property deeds, glancing at them before setting them aside. He picked up the rings, examined them for a moment, and then returned them to their red velvet box in his drawer.
Perhaps the implications of everything that happened during the day were too obvious, and that night, Wen Shuo had a dream.
The dream was dominated by a vast expanse of pure white. A gentle breeze blew, and like a scene from a movie, the white gauze curtains swayed in the wind. He saw Ren Li turn around and appear before him.
She was wearing a gentle dress, her hair loosely draped over her shoulders, and with that innocent smile on her face, she took the initiative to hold his hand.
The two held hands tightly, the warm touch felt very real, and at that moment, the heartbeats were clearly audible.
Wen Shuo was slightly startled, his Adam's apple rolled, then he lowered his head and kissed Ren Li's lips.
…
It was a sunny Sunday morning.
The skylight shone through the gap in the curtains. On the bed, Wen Shuo finally woke up from the almost real dream.
It took him a long time to realize that everything that had just happened was just a dream.
His underwear was soaked, and the morning physiological phenomenon unique to men was also obvious. He cursed softly, got out of bed, got up, went into the shower, and threw his underwear into the trash can.
The shower was turned up to full blast, and cold water poured down from the sky. Even a downpour couldn't extinguish the burning passion within him. While wet dreams weren't a big deal for adolescent boys, he had dreamed of Ren Li last night, and even done something far more extreme than kissing her.
Wen Shuo stopped thinking about it, feeling that any more thought would be a blasphemy to Ren Li. His shower today was exceptionally long, so long that Jiang Lan next door couldn't help but knock on his door.
Wen Shuo grabbed a towel and dried himself, then wrapped it around his waist. He leaned against the door frame and asked, "What's the matter?"
On the first day of his eighteenth birthday, Jiang Lan had a cold face and crossed his arms, trying to sum up.
"Dumped by a girl?" she said.
Wen Shuo snorted softly: "What are you thinking about."
Jiang Lan: "It has something to do with the girl I went out with yesterday."
Wen Shuo did not deny it this time: "Her name is Ren Li."
Jiang Lan: "The name sounds familiar... Oh, it's the new transfer student that Teacher He mentioned. So, do you like her?"
Wen Shuo was unusually silent.
Jiang Lan: "That makes me feel relieved. I used to think you wouldn't like any girls. Your dad and I have even made preparations for you to like boys in the future."
Wen Shuo: ...
What the hell is going on.
Jiang Lan: "If you like someone, just admit it. Liking someone is not something difficult to say. It's just a normal phenomenon of teenage hormones. We have all experienced it. If you want to talk about something, you can always find your dad or me."
Wen Shuo: "Let's talk about it later."
He honestly didn't think it was a matter of admitting or not. He was now a senior in high school, and Jiang Lan was a junior back then; there was no comparison at all.
Jiang Lan patted his shoulder and said, "At your age, I really don't think you can handle this on your own. In terms of courage, you're far behind your father."
Jiang Lan is right.

Early in the morning, Zhang Xintong arrived at the study area and heard Ren Li explain to her with an apologetic look on her face: "Xintong, I'll study with you today. Wen Shuo said he has something to do today and can't come."
Ren Li received a message from Wen Shuo as she was leaving the house this morning. His message was brief, with no explanation, simply stating that he couldn't attend today. Ren Li felt that the make-up classes were consensual, and that Wen Shuo had already done everyone a great favor by coming last week. While she felt a little disappointed today, the event had to go on, and she would continue to provide all the services everyone needed.
With this idea in mind, Ren Li came.
Fortunately, Zhang Xintong didn't take it personally. Zhou Qi's presence today was enough for her. She also had a lot of homework this week, so studying here was definitely better than at home.
Zhou Qi had not arrived yet at this time. Zhang Xintong put down her schoolbag and sat down. Ren Li thought about it and decided to tell her the news about the radio station that she had learned yesterday. Sure enough, after listening to it, Zhang Xintong could not contain her happiness.
"Did he really say that? That's great."
Ren Li hadn't realized who she was talking about yet: "Who, Lu Rendong?"
Zhang Xintong: "Yes, he is the director of this year's school radio station."
Originally, Ren Li thought that Wen Shuo was just looking for people randomly, but she didn't expect that the people he knew were all core figures.
Zhang Xintong: "I've heard Zhou Qi mention him before, saying they often played basketball together. I was going to ask Zhou Qi to ask for me, but forget it, Zhou Qi is never reliable. Luckily you asked for me. Thank you, Lili, for giving me the referral spot."
Ren Li clarified: "Actually, this doesn't count as an internal referral. I just asked about the campaign requirements for you. Everyone competed fairly. But to be honest, this should be considered Wen Shuo's contribution."
As soon as she finished speaking, Wen Shuo's voice rang in her ears: "What are you talking about me?"
Ren Li turned around and saw that he still had that usual cold expression. He took the bag off his shoulder, threw it on the chair, stood there, and looked down at Ren Li.
"Didn't you say you wouldn't come today?" Ren Li was a little surprised.
"The work is done." Wen Shuo said lightly.
The morning's study sessions continued. Zhang Xintong was mostly busy preparing materials for the school radio station. Zhou Qi arrived an hour late. He had wanted to take advantage of the situation, but seeing everyone else studying diligently, he decided to keep his composure.
It was almost noon when Zhang Xintong finally finished submitting the materials. She had originally wanted to send them via public mail, but Wen Shuo said it wasn't necessary and simply forwarded the resumes and recording samples to Lu Rendong.
After a while, Wen Shuo replied, "Mr. Lu just reviewed your materials and said there are no problems. I'll ask you to prepare for the interview next Monday."
Happiness came too suddenly. Everything was done in just one morning. For the first time, Zhang Xintong truly experienced that having connections really allowed one to do whatever they wanted.
