Chapter 64 Chapter 64

Chapter 64 Chapter 64

The atmosphere at night was beautiful, but when she thought back to everything that had happened before, Ren Li couldn't help but shed tears.

A salty and bitter taste appeared on his lips. Realizing that it was Ren Li crying, Wen Shuo quickly let her go.

He lowered his head, and saw the person in front of him with tears in her eyes, looking away. He couldn't figure out why for a moment, and hurriedly wiped her tears.

"What's wrong? Your boyfriend is here. You can tell me anything."

His voice sounded like he was coaxing a child, but it made Ren Li want to cry even more.

Wen Shuo couldn't help but take away her hands that were covering her face, and hugged Ren Li, who was crying bitterly, in his arms.

Her body was very soft and had a pleasant smell. Wen Shuo took a deep breath and couldn't help but rub her hair with the side of his face:

"It's okay, cry if you want to. I'm very happy today..."

"I hate you." Ren Li buried her face in Wen Shuo's neck and said softly.

Wen Shuo lowered his head and quickly placed a kiss on her soft hair. "But I like you."

Ren Li had always had a problem since she was little: once she started crying, she couldn't stop. Although she didn't feel like crying anymore, she couldn't stop crying for a while.

"No matter how much you hate me, I still like you..."

Wen Shuo spoke in a low voice and kissed Ren Li's ear gently. It was as if there was an aphrodisiac in that voice. Ren Li felt as if a tiny electric current was passing through her body, and her body became limp and uncontrollable.

However, she has not been able to quickly complete the mental transition from Wen Shuo's "friend" to "girlfriend".

She was sensitive. Wen Shuo's departure four years ago had made her no longer so sure that all the good things in the world would fall on her. She actually wanted to ask Wen Shuo for an answer: why did he choose to leave her back then?

He knew full well that they were both standing at a fork in the road of their future. Because they were young, they couldn't open their mouths to make a lifelong commitment.

She didn't blame Wen Shuo, she was just sad.

"Lili, I'm so tired." Zhang Xintong's voice rang out from that distant winter afternoon. "I stayed up until three in the morning studying yesterday. When do you think this will end?"

Across the table, Ren Li raised her head, also looking tired:

"It should be soon. I stayed up late last night too. I have so much homework lately."

"Yeah, even the usually kind Chinese teacher has betrayed us. There are so many Chinese homework assignments. Look at these reading notes, when will I be able to finish copying them? And this composition, oh my god, kill me." Zhang Xintong leaned back in the chair with his head raised, sighing uncontrollably.

Ren Li was amused by her. She had actually stayed up almost all night last night, not to do homework, but because she had just bought a literary classic, and the content inside was so fascinating that she accidentally read until after four in the morning.

The atmosphere at Page One Bookstore on a Sunday afternoon was somewhat lazy. In that neglected corner behind the bookshelves on the third floor, sunlight filtered through the skylight high in the wall, casting a narrow shadow.

"No, I need to go outside to get some fresh air and clear my mind."

Zhang Xintong stood up from the table. "Drinking too much coffee is no longer effective. I'll be back soon. Lili, you should learn how to do it yourself first."

Ren Li nodded and said to her with a smile, "Okay, come back early."

Zhang Xintong was gone. The fine dust in the air gradually settled. Ren Li propped up her head and read her tutorial for a while. In her head, two little men named Diligence and Laziness kept arguing with each other.

A little man with devil wings holding a steel fork said, "Chinese New Year is just two days away. Why are you in such a hurry? You can do your homework after the New Year. Just indulge yourself for a while. It's okay."

Another little man with a halo and angel wings said, "No! Human laziness is inertial. Tomorrow comes tomorrow, and tomorrow comes tomorrow. There are so many tomorrows. Today's work must be done today."

The two villains talked about some random things, and then they started fighting because they didn't agree with each other.

Ren Li smiled, and the arm that was supporting her head relaxed. Then she simply lay down on the table and closed her eyes lazily.

Why not take a nap, she thought, and then continue studying after Zhang Xintong comes back.

As she thought about this, her mind relaxed, and gradually, everything around her became a blur. After an unknown amount of time, she heard soft footsteps beside her, and a faint scent seemed to be in the air, a light, cool scent of woody perfume.

What was it this time? Ren Li thought vaguely, maybe it was time to dream about Wen Shuo again. He was always like this, appearing in dreams without her permission.

Someone seemed to have pulled a chair down beside her. Ren Li closed her eyes, but the outline of the person who came was clearly outlined in her mind. She dreamed that Wen Shuo slowly approached her, and his warm breath restrainedly blew on her face, but at the last moment, he stopped just a few feet away.

How annoying, Ren Li thought. Even in her dreams, she was still so timid.

Normally, the dream would have ended at this point. Ren Li was about to rush off to her next meeting with Zhou Gong, but the warm breath on her lips was gone as soon as it touched her, like a butterfly briefly lingering, leaving no trace.

Later, she recalled what happened in this scene countless times, but no matter how many times she recalled it, it was in vain.

At that moment, she woke up suddenly.

The person next to him had a calm and composed expression, his slender fingertips turning the pages of the literary classic on the table. When he saw Ren Li looking up from the table in confusion, he simply tilted his head slightly:

"I stopped by this bookstore on my way and didn't expect to see you slacking off here."

"..." Ren Li subconsciously wanted to retort, and the hasty dream appeared in her mind again.

"I..." Ren Li opened her mouth and said, "Have I slept for a long time?"

"Yeah, I drooled while sleeping." Wen Shuo changed to another philosophy book and continued to look straight ahead.

"How is that possible?" Although Ren Li denied it, she secretly rubbed the corners of her mouth and quickly changed the subject, "Is Zhang Xintong back?"

"She's outside."

"oh."

"Zhou Qi is here too."

"Oh. Hmm?" Ren Li opened her eyes wide and turned to look outside - even though there was only a wall. "Why is he here?"

"He didn't come specifically to see Zhang Xintong. I was here to buy some books, and Zhou Qi was downstairs buying some water, so we happened to meet."

Ren Li felt like the captain of the gossip squad. On the one hand, she felt she shouldn't be so curious about her best friend's affairs, but on the other hand, she felt she needed to do so. "So, what did they talk about?"

"Maybe just chat casually like us." Wen Shuo paused, "Zhou Qi is going abroad."

The footsteps of youth are fading away, and the beauty left in memories gradually fades away until it disappears.

They both knew the subtext of this sentence.

Wen Shuo left the bookstore not long after that day, and Zhang Xintong came back after a long time.

Her eyes were red, as if they were blown by the cold winter wind.

She just sat quietly at the table, the only sound around her was the rustling of pen on paper.

The sun outside the window has lost its light and it will soon snow again.
