Chapter 56 Zombies - Shopping

The terrified crowd instantly erupted into chaos, scattering in all directions. Some tried to pull the out-of-control man away, but were instead met with his vicious attacks—he extended his sharp fingernails and mercilessly scratched those who approached; even worse, some were accidentally bitten! Instantly, screams and shouts echoed through the streets and alleys.

However, just when everyone thought they had finally subdued the crazed man and were waiting for the police to arrive, something unexpected happened. Those who had been bitten or scratched by the man earlier began to exhibit the same bizarre symptoms within about five minutes. Their eyes gradually became glazed and unfocused, their behavior became abnormally frantic, as if possessed by a demon, losing their reason and joining the terrifying chaos.

Xu Anran slowly woke up, sitting up in the soft bed with bleary eyes. She rubbed her eyes, reached for the bedside table, and grabbed her phone.

The screen lit up, showing it was just past three in the morning. Since she was wide awake, she simply got out of bed, turned on the lamp, grabbed her laptop from the table, and began to write down the scenes from her dream.

As dawn broke, Xu Anran gently woke Xiao Feng, who was still fast asleep on the other bed beside her. After enjoying a sumptuous buffet breakfast at the hotel restaurant, the two embarked on a shopping trip with great enthusiasm.

First, they went to a pawnshop to exchange their gold for cash. Xiao Feng also took out some of his gold and handed it to Xu Anran, asking her to help him exchange it. Inside the shop, Xu Anran exchanged two million; because of her young age and limited space, she only exchanged a little over five hundred thousand for Xiao Feng.

With a heavy wad of cash in their hands, the two happily embarked on a frenzied hoarding spree. After all, the two spaces they had just acquired possessed the properties of freezing time and preserving the freshness of items, so they immediately set their primary goal for the day as gathering all sorts of delicious food.

Xu Anran first used her phone to search for various local delicacies. After careful selection, they meticulously planned the itinerary for each stop and embarked on this journey full of surprises and delicious food with great anticipation.

Their first stop was a bustling fast-food restaurant, the air thick with the irresistible aroma of fried chicken. The golden, crispy exterior encased tender, juicy chicken; one bite and the satisfaction was overwhelming. Next, they sampled the flavorful burgers, the soft buns filled with fresh vegetables and rich sauces, leaving a lingering aftertaste. Then, a cup of sweet and delicious milk tea followed, the delicate milk flavor perfectly blending with the mellow tea aroma, a truly exquisite experience for the taste buds. Of course, pizza was another classic treat not to be missed; the thin, crispy crust paired with a variety of toppings made each bite a wondrous taste adventure. After finishing their meal, they packed 200 of the dishes they liked to take home, splitting them equally between the two of them.

Afterwards, they went to a Chinese restaurant to sample a variety of traditional Chinese delicacies. Steaming hot dumplings, with thin skins and generous fillings, burst with flavorful broth when bitten into; delicate and small wontons, smooth and refreshing, were simply irresistible; fragrant stir-fried noodles, each strand distinct, exuded a unique wok-fried aroma; chewy and springy hand-pulled noodles, uniform in thickness, were smooth and satisfying; colorful stir-fried rice noodles, rich in flavor, whetted the appetite; soft and smooth rice vermicelli, paired with spicy and delicious seasonings, offered a unique flavor; fragrant barbecue, skewers of perfectly grilled ingredients emitting an enticing charred aroma; spicy and savory Mala Ban (a type of spicy mixed dish), stimulating every cell on the tongue; and the luxurious crab roe noodles, overflowing with crab roe and crab fat, providing an unparalleled umami experience.

Similarly, they packed over a hundred portions of each item to take away. Xiao Feng was too young to eat too many of the spicy ones, so those were for Xu Anran. The other non-spicy items were split equally between the two of them.

After eating, their stomachs were so full that neither of them wanted to move, so they went back to the hotel to rest and continue the meal the next day.

The next day, they tried many home-style dishes. The sweet and sour fish was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with juicy and fresh fish meat; the bright red sweet and sour pork tenderloin was perfectly balanced in sweet and sour flavors and was loved by everyone; the crispy and delicious fried pork belly was so delicious that they couldn't stop eating it; the braised pork belly was fatty but not greasy, stewed until very flavorful and melted in their mouths; the delicate golden sand tofu was savory and delicious, and nutritious... These dishes were plentiful and delicious, and the two of them ordered over a hundred portions of their favorite dishes, along with rice and steamed buns, to take away and put in their space.

After the main meal, the sweet moment arrived. They went to the dessert shop, where the dazzling array of desserts overwhelmed them. They bought many adorable and charming cream cakes, like exquisite works of art; layered sandwiches filled with various delicious fillings; rich and silky chocolate pies, the mellow taste of chocolate spreading in their mouths; and layers upon layers of durian mille-feuille, the durian pulp and cream intertwined, creating an irresistible temptation…

These abundant foods alone occupied two-thirds of their two cubic meters of storage space. Such a wide variety of choices would allow them to enjoy a different meal every day, perhaps even for a whole year without repeating a single dish.

After preparing the usual meals, Xu Anran planned to take Xiaofeng to the wholesale market to buy more daily necessities, as well as a sufficient supply of bottled and purified water. After all, much of their previous stockpiled supplies had already been used up, and she intended to buy more this time to prepare for any potential future needs.

First, she bought five boxes of sanitary napkins with a two-year shelf life and put them in her ordinary ring compartment. Then came toilet paper, toothpaste, soap, shower gel, facial cleanser, towels, shampoo, and so on. She also bought a lot of instant food wholesale, as some of the food she had stockpiled before had already been used up, and this was a good opportunity to replenish her reserves. As a result, all sorts of instant noodles in different flavors, sweet and delicious bread, crispy and tasty biscuits, savory and tempting potato chips, delicate little cakes, golden and crispy French fries, nutritious dried fruit, incredibly fresh dried fish, and irresistible spicy strips were all added to her collection.

The final, crucial element was water! She bought 15 tons of purified water, had it delivered to the previously rented warehouse, and placed it in a large storage area. After all, water is the source of life! Only by ensuring an adequate water supply can she protect her own life.

Xu Anran also took Xiaofeng to various pharmacies and bought some basic medicines, such as cold medicine, fever reducers, gastrointestinal medicine, vitamins, bandages, iodine, and so on. She put the advanced medicines from the virus world into the time-stopping bracelet, while putting the ordinary medicines into the larger space.
