Chapter 72 Zombies - Conversation

Uncle Li knew the situation was serious and dared not delay. He immediately turned and sprinted towards the base. He drove at breakneck speed, with only one thought in his mind: he had to inform his superiors as soon as possible!

Upon receiving this urgent intelligence, the base's high command immediately issued an order to summon all those with supernatural abilities and armed personnel. The group quickly assembled atop the city walls, ready for battle.

From within the crowd, someone spoke with a grave expression: "In my opinion, this group of zombies was clearly meticulously organized. Moreover, as far as I know, there's even an eighth-level zombie king among them! They've probably come specifically for our base." This person was none other than He Feng, the most powerful seventh-level lightning-type ability user in the base. His words were like a thunderclap, exploding in everyone's ears and making the already tense atmosphere even more so.

The base was a hive of activity as the superhumans quickly formed teams to prepare for the onslaught of zombies. He Feng, however, was tasked with a special mission—leading an elite squad to find the Zombie King.

Meanwhile, ordinary people without superpowers held their ground on the city walls, armed with various weapons such as machine guns, cannons, and even bombs, and fired wildly at the swarming zombies below.

The base mobilized all available weapons and equipment. A dazzling array of firearms and ammunition was on display, resembling a small arsenal. These weapons were systematically distributed to every soldier, ensuring they had sufficient firepower to fight this life-or-death battle.

Uncle Li stood aside, witnessing everything before him. He knew that the final battle between the base and the zombies outside would be exceptionally fierce, and the situation was likely dire. However, Uncle Li wasn't the kind of hot-blooded young man willing to risk his life in battle. To him, his own life was the most precious thing.

So, while everyone else was focused on the fierce battle, Uncle Li took advantage of the chaos and quietly slipped into the area where the helicopters were stored. As expected, he saw from afar the base's high-ranking leaders hurriedly boarding helicopters with their trusted subordinates, attempting to escape this perilous place.

This is the cruel reality! Ordinary people fight tooth and nail to defend their homes for a glimmer of hope; but what about those in high positions of power? They speak righteous words all day long, but when faced with real danger, they only care about their own safety, abandoning the masses without hesitation and fleeing alone.

Without hesitation, Uncle Li seized a key figure of considerable standing within the base and, threatening his own life, forced the man to lead him onto the helicopter. As the rotors spun rapidly, the helicopter slowly ascended, gradually moving away from this perilous land.

As the plane lifted off the ground and soared higher, Uncle Li looked down through the window at the dense, surging hordes of zombies below, and the people still struggling in the base. He knew in his heart that these people's hope of survival was extremely slim, and that this once impregnable base would ultimately succumb to the fate of being overrun by zombies.

The atmosphere inside the cramped cabin was unusually tense and oppressive. Uncle Li held his cold weapon tightly against the officer's back, while the others watched silently, not daring to make a move. Time ticked by, and finally, the plane reached a relatively safe area.

Uncle Li decisively ordered the pilot to land and stop the plane, then escorted the man off the aircraft. He sternly warned the others not to follow, and then, taking advantage of this brief opening, swiftly struck and knocked the man unconscious. Immediately afterward, without hesitation, he leaped into the nearby river and disappeared into the vast night.

Bathed in the soft, moonlight, Xu Anran stood quietly by the window. She gazed at the tranquil night outside, as if trying to take in the entire world. At this moment, all was silent, broken only by the rustling of leaves in the gentle breeze and the occasional chirping of insects.

Just then, a figure quietly walked out of the room; it was Fan Yunfei.

He walked to Xu Anran's side and stood silently with her, admiring the moonlit night view outside the window. Time seemed to stand still; neither of them spoke, simply standing side by side in quiet contemplation, enjoying this rare moment of peace.

After a long silence, Fan Yunfei finally broke the silence and said softly, "Actually, I'm a hacker. I can easily infiltrate the city's surveillance system, and I can also thoroughly investigate anyone's information, IP address, and other confidential data." He paused slightly, then added, "Back in the virus world, I always wanted to find the legendary Old K. So, when I came to this place and found Old K's post, I immediately took action. Finally... I successfully found you." Before he finished speaking, he slowly turned his head, his gaze meeting Xu Anran's slightly surprised eyes.

As their eyes met, Xu Anran pressed on, "And then?"

Fan Yunfei continued, "It wasn't by chance that I met you at the university. I specifically went to find you based on the address I found. Actually, I wasn't sure if you were Lao K, I just suspected you."

"Then why are you telling me all this now?" Xu Anran frowned, looking at Fan Yunfei with a puzzled expression, her eyes filled with incomprehension and confusion.

Fan Yunfei took a deep breath and replied with a firm and sincere gaze, "I believe we can be honest with each other. I greatly admire everything Old K did; at the same time, I am very grateful to you for stepping forward to save us. I want to tell you my true feelings. I hope we can work together and act side by side."

Xu Anran gazed silently at Fan Yunfei, her eyes falling silent at his earnest expression. For a long time, she had been accustomed to being alone, always wary of those around her. But now, faced with Fan Yunfei's sincere words, she didn't want to lie, didn't want to deceive those around her. She wanted to try trusting them, to experience what it felt like to have trusted companions by her side.

She pondered silently for a long time before finally speaking, "I need some time to calm down. As for other things, let's talk about them tomorrow." With that, she turned and left, leaving Fan Yunfei standing alone.

Hearing Xu Anran's words, Fan Yunfei nodded slightly, indicating his understanding. He then returned to his room and gently closed the door. The room was quiet, save for the occasional chirping of insects outside the window.
