Chapter 109 Strange - Awakening

Upon returning, the red lanterns disappeared into the vast night, as if they had drifted away with the wind to an unknown destination.

Xu Anran first found a place to stay, then took out the medicines she had previously stockpiled and selected the appropriate ones to feed to Luo Xi.

The night passed quietly. Xu Anran and Yi Yi took turns keeping watch throughout the night and encountered nothing unusual. However, this world was fraught with danger, and once again she foresaw her own death in her dream.

According to the dream, if they continue to linger here, a terrifying and eerie monster will pass by tomorrow and encounter them unexpectedly.

It was a bizarre being, its body as black as ink, its face indistinct and hard to discern. All one could see was it constantly devouring everything around it, while incessantly shouting "Hungry."

Xu Anran took out all the talismans and magical artifacts, but still could not cause any damage to it, and in the end, they were devoured by it.

Therefore, Xu Anran had no choice but to lead everyone on the journey again. During the journey, Luo Xi woke up briefly, and after Yi Yi fed her water, she fell into a deep sleep again.

As soon as we parked in a suburban residential area, a child's head, with no eyes but only dark eye sockets, suddenly popped out from below the car window: "Sister, wanna play hide-and-seek?"

Without hesitation, Xu Anran drew his peach wood sword and thrust it forward. The sword pierced through the black hole in his eye and down to the back of his head, turning him to ashes in an instant.

Upon entering the residential compound, Xu Anran could clearly see shadowy figures peeking at them from behind the windows of some rooms; these were presumably survivors. It seemed the compound wasn't too dangerous or eerie.

She found an empty house, pried open the lock, and stepped inside.

Soon after, Luo Xi slowly woke up, feeling extremely weak. Upon waking, she first touched her legs to make sure they were still there, secretly relieved.

Then, her gaze slowly swept over Xu Anran and Yi Yi, and then looked around, but she couldn't see Ya Ya anywhere. She asked, "Where are we now? Where did Ya Ya go?"

Xu Anran lowered her head and remained silent for a moment. Luo Xi felt a sense of foreboding. She watched as Xu Anran carefully took Ya Ya's body out of the still space and gently placed it in front of her.

Staring at the pale, small body before her, Luo Xi was struck dumb, utterly bewildered. She stared wide-eyed at Xu Anran, her voice hoarse as if it had been sanded: "What happened? I remember she was perfectly fine before!"

Xu Anran slowly recounted her experience after being injured. Luo Xi felt heartbroken, and tears streamed down her face like a burst dam. She hugged Ya Ya tightly, as if she wanted to pour all her sorrow into this small body.

After that, she sat there blankly like a statue. Xu Anran did not disturb her, perhaps giving her some time to slowly break free from this sadness.

At night, Luo Xi gazed at the roaring flames in the bonfire. She gently placed Ya Ya's body into her spatial dimension, her gaze slowly shifting to Xu Anran opposite her.

Having neither spoken nor drunk water for a long time, her throat was so dry it felt like it had been roasted by fire. She opened her mouth to speak, but could only let out a low whimper. Yi Yi kindly handed her a glass of water, which Luo Xi drank in one gulp.

She slowly recounted her past: "I was an orphan, so from a young age I understood that if I didn't want to be bullied, I had to become ruthless. So when those people bullied me, I would bite and beat them with all my might. Because of this, whether in the orphanage or at school, no one dared to mess with me."

Later, as I grew older, I realized that pretending to be tough didn't work on adults. Because I often got into fights, the principal and teachers didn't like me; they never gave me anything good, and they never thought of me when there were opportunities for good fortune. So I changed my strategy. I pretended to be well-behaved and cute to please them, trying to make them like me. Whenever I encountered a situation, I always weighed whether it was in my own best interest first.

So, when I encountered someone stronger than me, I would feign weakness and flattery, pretending to be innocent and adorable; when I encountered those I disliked, or those weaker than me, I would find ways to punish them.

My set of rules has always worked perfectly for me, allowing me to get by smoothly. Even later, when I came to these disaster-stricken worlds, I was still able to handle it with ease.

Then I met you. When I saw you alone with a child in tow, I thought you were really silly. Didn't you find it troublesome to take care of a child? I don't know why, but I just wanted to get to know you.

When I saw you go to save Liu Yue, I felt both ridiculously stupid for doing something so difficult when there was no benefit to it, and a strange sense of envy. I wished someone had come to my rescue when I was bullied or beaten when I was a child.

However, at this moment I met you all, I met Ya Ya, the person who was willing to give everything to save me!

I've finally met someone like this! I will never let her die like this; I must bring her back to life! If science can't solve a problem, then we'll use other methods to overcome it.

I believe I will find a way to bring her back to life in the future!

After listening quietly to her story and gazing into Luo Xi's unwavering eyes, Xu Anran firmly believed that she could do it. Perhaps one day in the future, she would succeed and Ya Ya would stand up again!

Xu Anran hugged Luo Xi tightly and gently patted her back: "Yes, I believe you can succeed!"

He took out a glass of water and clinked glasses with her: "We will definitely succeed! I will find a brand new world, and you will bring Ya Ya back to life. We will live together in the new world!"

Luo Xi's eyes were filled with tears, but she raised her glass with a bright smile: "Yes! Let's raise a glass to our dreams coming true!"

Just as they were pouring out their hearts to each other, danger crept in like a ghost.

Black fog billowed like a surging tide, and the neighborhood welcomed its uninvited guests for the evening: a group of women and children.

They were ghosts emerging from a nearby underground clinic. Upon arriving at the residential area, they scattered like ghosts. A woman floated to the outside of the room through the fog and glimpsed Yaya inside.

Her face was not ferocious or terrifying, but rather beautiful and charming. She tried to break into the house, but was mercilessly blocked by the talismans. The woman summoned several little ghosts, devoured them, and tried again, but the talismans all fell off.

She floated into the house and stretched out her demonic claws to grab Yi Yi. Xu Anran saw this and quickly drew her peach wood sword to block. Yi Yi also held her weapon and slashed fiercely. Luo Xi was still weak at the moment and could only take out some talismans and magical artifacts to throw at the female ghost.
