Chapter 22 Virus - Knowing

After finishing her meal and taking a shower, Xu Anran prepared to enter her dream again to see what she could foresee, but this time she did not have a precognitive dream and slept soundly until dawn.

After waking up in the morning and having a simple breakfast, she thought she would try dreaming again that night.

Xu Anran arrived at the supermarket for her interview at 7:00 AM sharp. The interviewer asked her some questions and informed her of the salary and benefits for the stock clerk position: a monthly salary of 2,000 yuan, no days off, and rotating shifts (morning and evening). The morning shift ran from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM one week, and the evening shift ran from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM one week. Both parties agreed, and Xu Anran changed into her work uniform and started working immediately.

She was assigned to the pharmacy section, where she restocked the medicines on the shelves, took out medicines that were about to expire separately, and kept the shelves clean. All of these medicines had expiration dates.

She won't buy medicine now; she'll learn about various medicines here first, and then buy them when the disaster is imminent. When she returns to the waiting room, she'll keep some for herself and exchange the rest with others.

The morning passed quickly as Xu Anran busied herself organizing the shelves. Lunch was provided by the supermarket; everyone ate at the canteen behind the supermarket. Lunchtime was only half an hour, so everyone ate very quickly.

In the afternoon, after the shelves were all organized, Xu Anran began to study the medicines. These medicines were inexpensive, affordable, and unlimited in quantity, with a shelf life of generally three years. She planned to stock up on them at various supermarkets later.

After get off work, she first went to the food section to buy some fresh ingredients, preparing to go back to her apartment to learn how to cook for herself.

Back in my apartment, I took out the high-tech encyclopedia I'd bought, found the food page, and discovered that instead of simple text or pictures, it featured dynamic videos with sound.

Xu Anran watched the video and tried to make it herself. First, she steamed the rice, then took out the tomatoes, washed them, and cut them into small pieces. Next, she beat two eggs, added oil to the pan, and when the oil was hot, she first fried the eggs and then added the tomatoes. She cooked them until they released their juices, then added a little water, vinegar, sugar, and salt. She reduced the sauce for two minutes and it was done. She first tasted a small spoonful and found it to be very good, sweet and sour.

Xu Anran felt she had some talent for cooking. Following the recipe, she made onion beef rolls and egg tofu soup, which tasted excellent.

After finishing the two dishes and soup, Xu Anran was so full that she collapsed on the sofa. After resting for half an hour, she got up and ran two laps in the park near her apartment.

After warming up, she returned to her apartment, opened the book, switched to the combat section, and began practicing with the basic combat videos in the book. She practiced for two hours, reaching her limit, and then stopped to stretch. Looking at the time, it was nine o'clock at night. She took a shower, prepared to go to sleep, and tried to dream, but without success.

Every day she goes to work, cooks, practices martial arts, sometimes studies herbal medicine and traditional Chinese medicine, and also tries to enter dreams.

During her third week working the day shift, she met Sister Lan, and the two exchanged phone numbers as if in a dream. Some time passed, and Xu Anran was finally able to have precognitive dreams.

In her dream, Xu Anran went to work as usual. When she finished work, she saw Xu Liang buying lunchboxes at the supermarket. She watched him leave with a cart full of lunchboxes, and Xu Anran followed him at a distance. He carried the lunchboxes into a residential complex. A little while later, Xu Liang came out again, and Xu Anran followed him to another supermarket to buy lunchboxes and return to the complex. Afterwards, Xu Anran waited at the entrance of the complex, watching Xu Liang go back and forth several times, buying lunchboxes and returning home.

Waking up from the dream, Xu Liang recalled the scene and realized he was with the bespectacled man. The two must have killed many monsters in the previous world and must have possessed ring spaces. However, ring spaces, like the outside world, are subject to the passage of time and don't preserve things. So why couldn't they keep the boxed lunches they bought?

Suddenly, she remembered the box containing the monster in her spatial storage. Xu Anran took the box out, poured a cup of hot water into it, and after half an hour, she took it out to measure the temperature, which had not changed.

Fantastic! This box is keeping things fresh. To be even more accurate, Xu Anran put water back in and took it out again after 24 hours. The temperature hadn't changed, confirming that time inside the box was indeed frozen.

Xu Liang and the bespectacled man bought so many boxed lunches, probably to store them in the box. They've killed so many monsters, they must have a lot of boxes. Xu Anran only has this one, which can probably hold about 50 boxed lunches. She decided to go out every day to find good food, and if she finds something she likes, she'll buy a couple more and put them in the box.

Time flies, and Xu Anran has been in this world for over five months. During these five months, she has exercised every day. While she still looks like a slender young girl when clothed, her arms have clearly defined muscles, exuding strength. She now feels she can fight monsters one-on-one with just her black knife, without even needing a stun gun.

During this time, her cooking skills have improved by leaps and bounds, and she can now easily cook everyday dishes. Her suitcase is already filled with her favorite foods: fried rice noodles, spicy hot pot, spicy soup, durian pizza, spicy crayfish, eel rice…

In the past five months, in addition to the two previous times, she had three more precognitive dreams. Combining the scenarios of her dreams in the previous world, Xu Anran summarized a pattern: she would only have precognitive dreams passively when she was in imminent danger; at other times, she could only have one precognitive dream actively each month.

These three dreams all involved mundane everyday events, and nothing particularly special happened.

Tonight, she will have another precognitive dream. In her dream, the television is broadcasting news: there is a recent outbreak of influenza, reminding viewers to keep warm, wear masks to avoid infection, because this flu is a new virus and there is no specific medicine on the market, so patients should seek medical attention in time.

People on the street were all wearing masks and had bought a lot of alcohol spray. More and more people were buying medicine in the supermarket, and the supermarket could only limit the purchase amount, but it still couldn't stop everyone from buying medicine. Soon, the medicine in the supermarket was sold out.

Xu Anran woke up from her dream, thinking that the disaster must be this virus. She remembered that the time displayed on the TV in her dream was December 8th, which was less than two months away. She needed to start buying medicine and stockpiling supplies.

This virus is likely airborne, so we need to buy plenty of oxygen cylinders, masks, protective clothing, etc. We absolutely cannot get infected, or we'll be doomed.

I also need to buy a motorhome, so that once I find a train ticket, I can leave and run away to the wilderness, far away from humans.

I'll quit my job now, stock up on supplies, stay in my apartment, and wait for the disaster to strike before going out to find a train ticket. This time, it doesn't matter if the countdown is two months, six months, or a year; I'll leave as soon as I find one.
