Chapter 34 Virus - Departure

Whenever someone mentions a clue that might be related to the shelter, the group immediately starts discussing and developing corresponding response strategies, even though the waiting days are filled with uncertainty.

The next morning, after Lan Jie and the others got up, they also saw the message in the group chat. Xu Anran suggested, "We'd better be careful. I think it's better to pack our things first and pay close attention to our surroundings." The others nodded in agreement.

A week later, Xu Anran spotted the vehicles from her dream through her binoculars. She immediately told the other three, "Someone's coming!" The four of them took turns using the binoculars to observe.

Xu Anran calmly analyzed, "Judging from their appearance, they seem to be here to establish a base. They definitely need a lot of land and resources, and we need to find a way to deal with them." Sister Lan nodded in agreement, looking at her and waiting for her to continue, "Perhaps we can drive to a more distant place, like at the foot of a small hill in the distance? That might be safer." Xu Liang supported Xu Anran's decision without hesitation, and the female college student also said she would listen to everyone's opinion. Xu Anran continued, "Our current location is close to the lake, and establishing a base will inevitably involve considering the water source. After all, people cannot live without water. If a force really intends to establish a base here, then this lake is very likely to be included within their base's territory. This also means that once this lake is occupied, we will not be able to easily approach it to obtain water resources."

Hearing this, a hint of struggle flashed in Lan Jie's eyes. She didn't want to stray too far from the water source, as that would increase the risk to her survival. But at the same time, she understood the logic Xu Anran had made, and her heart was filled with hesitation.

Xu Anran seemed to sense Lan Jie's worries and continued, "We can drive to the foot of that mountain first and observe the situation for a few days. If they haven't built the base there, we can go back. This way, we won't take any risks and we can ensure our safety. Besides, we don't need to worry about water. I can drive the van and bring back a large amount of water in large barrels. In addition, we already have a lot of water stored up, enough to last for a while. Furthermore, we can use this time to look for other possible water sources."

Xu Anran's words calmed Lan Jie down a little. She knew Xu Anran made sense, but she was still filled with uncertainty and fear about the future. Nevertheless, she nodded, indicating her agreement with Xu Anran's suggestion.

They drove to the foot of the mountain and began observing the surroundings. After several days of observation, they discovered that the base was indeed constantly expanding! And the expansion was enclosing the entire lake!

Meanwhile, various messages were circulating in the group chat, all concerning their discovery of bases in different locations. It seemed everyone was closely monitoring the situation at the bases.

As for Xu Anran, she didn't continue searching for new water sources. After all, they already had enough water stored up, and as long as they used it sparingly, it would meet their needs. Therefore, she decided to temporarily stop risking her life to find new water sources and instead focus on other aspects of survival preparation.

As time went by, Xu Anran and Xu Liang's countdown drew ever closer. In these final days, they began to make thorough preparations, packing all their belongings and leaving enough supplies for Sister Lan and the others. This way, even if they were gone, Sister Lan and the others could continue to survive.

On that very day, when Xu Anran went out hunting, she suddenly spotted a boy on a small hill not far from them.

The boy looked like a high school student, but he was lying on the ground, his body filthy. Xu Anran was alarmed; she worried that the boy might be infected with a virus.

Unsure whether the boy was carrying the virus, Xu Anran dared not get too close to him. However, she noticed that the boy was still breathing, and she felt pity for him. Remembering that she still had a train ticket, which seemed to have lost its meaning to her, Xu Anran decided to give it to the boy.

If he is lucky enough to survive, this ticket might be his hope of leaving this dangerous place.

Xu Anran found a long tree branch and pushed the train ticket under the boy. The branch probably touched the boy and woke him up. The boy squinted and saw Xu Anran, but Xu Anran did not notice. After pushing the train ticket over, she turned around and went to inform Sister Lan and the others.

Tell them she found a boy, and she doesn't know if he has the virus, so tell Lan and the others to stay away from here.

That evening, Xu Anran and Xu Liang's countdown came, and they returned to the waiting hall with their train tickets.

Before leaving, Xu Liang told Xu Anran that he had a personal space. Thinking that the two of them would eventually find out about the space when they teamed up, Xu Anran also revealed that she had a personal space. However, the two of them tacitly avoided talking about how big or what their personal spaces were, and did not ask each other.

Xu Liang then said to Xu Anran, "I still need to go to the next world to look for people." Xu Anran thought for a moment and suggested, "Then let's keep in touch after we get to the next world, and then split up. That way, you can prepare and look for your friends while I focus on my own affairs. We can meet up again before the disaster strikes." Xu Liang nodded, thinking it was a good arrangement, and readily agreed.

Xu Liang then asked, "If I arrive in the next world and join the chat group, should I post the photo of the person I'm looking for in the group and ask everyone?" Xu Anran shook her head, somewhat worried, and said, "It's better not to. What if someone sees the photo, finds that person, and then uses it to threaten you? It's best to only show it to people you know and trust. If they run into them, they can contact you directly." Xu Liang found Xu Anran's words very reasonable and decided to follow her advice.

Then, Xu Liang took out a photo of a little girl and handed it to Xu Anran, saying, "This is the person I'm looking for." Xu Anran took the photo and saw that the girl in it was very cute, with a bright smile. Xu Liang continued, "She's Wang Hong's daughter, named Wang Weiwei, nicknamed Maisui." Xu Anran took a picture of the photo with her phone and said seriously, "Okay, I'll remember that. I'll keep a close eye out in the future, and I'll contact you immediately if I find anything."

Similarly, Xu Liang also asked Sister Wang and female college student Hu Shuhan to keep an eye out for Wang Weiwei's news and to help take care of her if they ran into her. The two agreed.
