Chapter 207: Prosperity 207: It's up to you
"That's it? Where's your life?" Chu Dai retracted his gaze, but he couldn't suppress the smile in his eyes.
Seeing the two young guys go to their grandfather's place, he carried the woman upstairs to watch Shen Sui doing his homework.
The waxing moon hangs high in the sky, sometimes disappearing into the clouds.
Xiao Xiao followed the man's shadow with a relaxed pace.
The warm light from the courtyard beside the bluestone path shone obliquely on the man.
Xiao Xiao looked at the light on him, followed him, and unknowingly arrived at the door of his home.
"Gu Canyang!" she shouted.
The man stopped.
Xiao Xiao ran in front of him, with a look of undisguised desire to conquer him, and looked up at him frankly: "I won't give up."
His emotionless eyes fell on the woman's face, and the color of his eyes was darker than the night.
Xiao Xiao stiffened his neck and waited for his answer without moving.
After two minutes, he said calmly, "It's up to you."
"Eh?" Xiao Xiao's mind raced for a few turns, but before he could react, the man had already walked to the corner ahead.
She came to her senses and ran in front of him, stretching her arms to hold him: "Last time you said not to waste time on yourself, now you say it's up to me, does it mean that your love for me is not that difficult to accept?"
She said a lot of things in a rapid succession, her heart beating fast, and she stared at him with her bright eyes without blinking.
Gu Canyang remained silent. When Xiao Xiao thought he would not answer, he heard a voice that was lighter than the evening breeze:
“Maybe.”
"Gu Canyang!" Xiao Xiao circled around him excitedly: "What should I do? Although you haven't fallen in love with me yet, I feel like I'm about to catch up with you. Can you please be a little more interested and don't make it too hard for me to catch up with you?"
The man lowered his eyes and glanced at her calmly.
"Okay, okay, it's not working, right? Then I'll keep trying to think of a solution," she said, making way for him. "You should go back and rest early. I'll go find him when I'm free—"
Before she could finish her words, the man had already left.
Watching his back disappear around the corner, Xiao Xiao raised his head to look at the moon breaking through the clouds, muttering, "How can someone be as cold as the moon in the sky?"
Yet it is always bright and pure, hanging on the tip of her heart.
Xiao Hui had just returned from Chu Zhan's house and saw his daughter standing there stupidly, staring at the dark night ahead.
He raised his hand and waved it in front of her eyes, "Lost soul?"
A large hand like a palm-leaf fan came straight towards her face. Xiao Xiao subconsciously took a step back. After seeing that it was her father, she breathed a sigh of relief.
"Captain Xiao," she said speechlessly, "could you please make a sound before you take action next time?"
Xiao Hui snorted and walked towards the gate with his hands behind his back. "Usually people say that my walking is louder than thunder. Are you hard of hearing today?"
Xiao Xiao followed him and said, "I'm thinking of finding a son-in-law for you. What do you think of Gu Canyang?"
Xiao Hui turned around and met his girlfriend's smiling face. He said bluntly, "Don't dream. The organization can't arrange anything for you. You have to find a way yourself."
She was not bothered by having her thoughts exposed, and said shamelessly: "Then can you please tell Uncle Chu to let me join the Air Force as an instructor?"
Xiao Hui's sunburned face was not much lighter than the night. He looked at his daughter, who looked smart and dashing, and asked curiously, "Were you transferred to the Air Force for training?"
Xiao Xiao nodded repeatedly and looked at her father expectantly, "This isn't a big deal, right, Comrade Commander?!"
Xiao Hui laughed mercilessly, and said in a gloomy tone: "What are you going to learn in the Air Force? Lying on the window of an airplane with a gun in your arms and aiming for sniping?"
Xiao Xiao: “…”
"It would be more effective if you just go to the air force hangar after training every day and block it directly."
Xiao Xiao: “…”
"My dear, how about we stop chasing him, okay?"
"No, it's up to you if you want to help or not. You old comrades don't care about your children's lifelong affairs at all. I tell you, it will be too late to regret when you are old and have no one to rely on." Xiao Xiao pushed him away and strode to the living room: "Don't say you are my father in the future. I can't afford to lose this man."
Xiao replied: “?”
He couldn't help but retort: "Who in the military district doesn't know that you are my daughter?"
"Bang——" the door was closed.
"This guy." Xiao Hui shook his head.
Chu family, third floor.
Gu Qingqing sat on the edge of the bed, holding in her hand the calligraphy that Shen Suilian had practiced in the afternoon.
Chu Dai sat next to Shen Sui. The light in the room was too scattered. It was fine for writing or reading during the day because the light was stronger near the window. But now all the light was blocked by him.
The man saw the shadow looming over the table and stood up: "I'll go downstairs."
After a while, he brought up a desk lamp, plugged it into the black socket next to it, and turned on the power.
The soft light poured down and reflected on a pile of military notes. Shen Sui subconsciously raised his hand to block his eyes, and then put it down after he adjusted himself.
Gu Qingqing raised her eyes and asked him, "Where did you get this table lamp?"
"I got it from the study downstairs." He said briefly.
Gu Qingqing thought for a moment and said, "Dad's study?"
"Yeah." The man didn't care.
Gu Qingqing was a little amused: "What about Dad looking at the documents?"
"He doesn't have time to read it tonight. If Xiao Xu finds out that he doesn't have it tomorrow, he will go to the Quartermaster's Office to get it." Chu Dai saw that Shen Sui was reading it seriously and asked, "Do you understand it?"
"To surround a point and attack its reinforcements means to surround it but not to destroy it. We use this group of enemies as bait to attract reinforcements from other enemy forces, and then destroy the reinforcements," the boy said clearly, and turned his head to ask the man next to him, "Is that right, brother-in-law?"
"Yes," Chu Dai nodded. "When the enemy realizes that this is a trap and stops sending reinforcements, the trapped enemies will also lose their value and should be destroyed immediately."
Shen Sui nodded and marked his words and his own understanding one by one.
The man said lazily, "The army that mourns will win."
Gu Qingqing just listened to them talking without saying a word.
After a while, she suddenly thought of something and asked, "Ah Sui, didn't you say before that two of your clothes were torn? I'll help you sew them."
"On the second shelf of the cabinet, two blue ones." He didn't even look up.
"Can I open your locker now?"
"good."
Gu Qingqing opened the cabinet door and did not rummage through his clothes. She found the blue clothes on the second layer, pulled them out, shook them open, and looked at them. After confirming that they were the two pieces, she closed the cabinet door again.
She put her clothes beside the bed and went downstairs to get her workbox.
Xiao Tuantuan and Xiao Niannian were being taken care of by Chu Yuan and Xiao Xu, but she still looked down from the stairs and saw the two little guys lying on their grandfather, biting dried sweet potatoes and watching the TV intently.
She felt relieved and went upstairs with her sewing box.
Gu Qingqing sat back on the bed and said to Shen Sui while sewing: "Tomorrow morning, get up and take the quilt to the balcony to dry it. I always feel that the quilt is cold and damp in winter. Dry the cotton to loosen it up so that you can sleep more comfortably at night."
"Okay." He agreed.
Chu Dai explained a few examples and felt a little dry in the mouth, so he took a sip of the tea beside him.
The room was very quiet, with only the sound of the pen swishing across the paper and the man's Adam's apple rolling as he swallowed...
Gu Qingqing looked up subconsciously, and her big watery eyes met the man's smiling eyes.
She stared at the face for a while, then quickly lowered her head and continued sewing.
The man laughed dumbly and took another sip of water to calm his dryness.
Glancing at the boy's handwriting, there was a hint of satisfaction in his eyes.
Shen Sui usually practices several kinds of calligraphy, but his annotations are always in small regular script, which is clear and distinct.
Shen Sui's advantage is that he can keep his composure and never looks arrogant or impatient, thanks to Mr. Qin's good teaching.
Thinking of this, he said to Gu Qingqing, "On the Lantern Festival, Mr. Qin will come down from the island. My father and he are old comrades-in-arms. We want him to live in our house. Let me ask for your opinion."
"I have no objection," Gu Qingqing said softly, "Let's not talk about Mr. Qin's identity or his contributions to the country. He taught Ah Sui with all his heart on the island, so we should thank him."
"Yeah." The man smiled and nodded at her: "My wife is sensible."
Gu Qingqing's ears turned red and she cleared her throat, "Which room do you think is best for Mr. Qin to live in? Will it be inconvenient for him to move around if he lives upstairs when he's older? But there's only one bedroom on the first floor, which belongs to my father."
She was a little distressed.
"Don't worry about that. Mr. Qin likes to read. Just add a big bed in the study."
"Is this okay? Isn't it too simple?"
"As long as he has books to read, he will be happy without a bed or a chair." The man looked at Shen Sui again and said, "I will take care of these things when the time comes. You just need to wash and dry the sheets and quilts."
"good."
At half past nine, Gu Qingqing folded the sewn clothes and said, "Ah Sui, I'll put them on the bedside for you. You can check if there are any places that are not sewn properly, and I will make some corrections."
"Yeah." Shen Sui closed the notebook.
Chu Dai picked up an empty enamel cup, supported his knees and stood up, saying to him: "Don't stay up late to read books at night. There are endless books to read. You are still young, and your health and eyes are the most important."
"I know." Shen Sui nodded and looked at the notes: "Brother-in-law, should we put these back in the study downstairs?"
"You can keep it. You can go into the two study rooms downstairs. You can find any book you want."
"Okay." Shen Sui turned off the desk light.
Chu Dai went downstairs to get the kettle, and Gu Qingqing followed him, wanting to take his two sons back to their room to sleep.
The cradle is basically useless now and takes up space in the room, so Chu Dai plans to move it to the next room.
"Dad, is Xiaoxu back home? You should also go to bed early." She picked up her son from beside Chu Yuan and held the hand of the little boy who was yawning and rubbing his eyes. "These two guys are too attached to you."
"It's okay. You should go to bed early." Chu Yuan looked at his two grandsons lovingly. Maybe because he was older, he wanted his grandsons to be close to him.
It also made up for some of the shortcomings in his heart.
Chu Dai held the hot water bottle in one hand, bent slightly, picked up Xiao Tuan Tuan, and followed Gu Qingqing upstairs.
After getting some warm water to wash the two little guys, Gu Qingqing took off their coats and undressed them, leaving them in pajamas. She lifted the quilt and patted their little butts: "Go lie down."
Xiao Niannian hummed, and Gu Qingqing blinked and said, "Daddy is making milk powder for the babies."
Xiao Tuantuan glanced at her father who was standing at the table making milk powder, then slipped into the quilt, patting the side to signal her younger brother to come over quickly.
Gu Qingqing couldn't help but look up and smiled, "Chu Dai, look at your son, he's such a smart kid."
The man happened to come over with a bottle of milk, and when his eyes met hers, he raised the corners of his lips and said, "Isn't he your son?"
As he said this, he stuffed the two bottles into his sons' hands.
