Never told the truth
Time's body is heavier than it appears.
He collapsed suddenly, his body giving way and he slumped forward. Yunxi almost instinctively lunged forward, using her thin shoulders to catch his falling body. The two of them landed on the cold floor together, her back hitting the edge of the coffee table, a dull pain causing her to wince instantly.
"Time sequence? Time sequence!"
There was no response. His eyes were tightly closed, his face was as pale as paper, and his breathing was so weak it was almost imperceptible. That sudden display of power had drained all his energy, and perhaps even more.
The panic lasted only a few seconds. Yunxi took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down. With difficulty, she put his arm around her shoulder, gritted her teeth, and slowly dragged him to the sofa. Just the simple action of moving him from the floor to the sofa left her breathless and her forehead covered in sweat.
She knelt beside the sofa, her fingers tentatively touching the side of his neck. His pulse was still beating, weak but clear. She breathed a slight sigh of relief and pulled the thin blanket beside her over him.
The only sounds in the living room were his even but faint breathing and the endless sound of rain outside the window.
What should she do now? Call an ambulance? How do she explain it to the doctor? Say he performed a miracle and then collapsed? The thought was so absurd that she wanted to laugh bitterly at herself. Her gaze swept around her, finally landing on her phone, which had slipped to the corner of the sofa.
As if possessed, she picked up the phone. The screen lit up, requiring a password. She hesitated for a moment, then tentatively entered the date recorded in her notebook—the start date of the first cycle—wrong. She then entered yesterday, the date of their "first" meeting—still wrong.
Yunxi looked at Shixu's still furrowed brows despite his unconsciousness, and a thought suddenly struck her. She entered the date she transferred to the school.
The screen is unlocked.
Her heart felt as if it had been gently bumped, and an indescribable bittersweet feeling spread through her. She shook her head, trying to dispel the emotion; now was not the time to think about this.
She quickly scrolled through her contacts and messages, hoping to find someone who might be able to help. However, when she accidentally clicked on the photo album, her movements froze instantly.
The photo album is almost empty. There are only a few screenshots that come with the system.
However, there is one folder named "Δ" that requires a separate password.
Δ, Delta, in mathematics usually represents a "variable" or "change". In a deity's phone, there's an encrypted folder named "Variables".
Yunxi's heart began to race. She looked at Shixu again; he was still unconscious, completely unaware of her spying. A strong intuition drove her to enter the date she had just used to unlock the screen—the day she transferred schools.
The folder opened immediately.
There are no divine mysteries or laws of reincarnation within it.
Only photos.
Thousands upon thousands of her photos.
Her profile as she does her homework in the classroom, her ponytail flying as she runs on the playground, her wary look as she holds her schoolbag while sheltering from the rain at the convenience store entrance, her slightly furrowed brow as she bites her pen and ponders a math problem... Some angles are clearly candid shots, while others seem like moments that could only be captured by someone extremely close to her.
This wasn't the most shocking thing for her.
With trembling fingers, she clicked on the details of the earliest photo. The date it was taken was a staggering four years ago.
In the photo, she's wearing her junior high school uniform, sitting on an old swing, smiling brightly at the camera. It's the park behind her family's old house, which they haven't moved out of yet.
Four years ago.
At that time, she had no concept of time. According to his records, the first cycle began more than a year ago.
Yunxi's fingers were icy cold as she frantically swiped the screen. The photos were arranged chronologically, spanning her entire middle and high school years, recording her growth, laughter, and... moments she herself had almost forgotten. Some of the photos even featured backgrounds in spaces she had previously considered absolutely private.
The existence of these photos completely overturns all previous theories about the timeline.
He didn't just begin the cycle of reincarnation a little over a year ago because of some "tragedy".
He gazed at her for a much longer period of time than that.
Yun Xi suddenly looked up at the pale, peaceful sleeping face on the sofa. Fear, like cold vines, slowly coiled around her heart.
Who is he?
Why did this being, who claimed to have reincarnated again and again to save her, even at the cost of stripping away his divine status, exist like a ghost in every corner of her life long before the "tragedy" occurred?
All her previous sympathy, trust, and determination to form an alliance seemed utterly ridiculous at this moment.
She thought they were allies who were fighting against fate together.
But now, the evidence is conclusive that he himself may be the biggest mystery of her fate.
The rain outside the window was pouring down harder.
