92. Subordinates with their own thoughts
Huo Jie said nothing and walked away calmly.
The next morning at seven o'clock, when the admiral came down the spiral staircase, Su Liu had already had breakfast and was waiting in the lobby.
Colonel Yabo followed behind the admiral and, after quickly reporting today's military affairs, caught a glimpse of Su Liu sitting on the sofa with a look of inquiry and scrutiny.
Coming downstairs, Huo Jie took the military jacket handed to him by the maid and put it on. He ignored Victor beside him and only asked Su Liu: "Have you had breakfast?"
"Hmm, this kale and carrot cream salad is so unpalatable." Su Liu criticized the kitchen without any hesitation.
Huo Jie laughed silently and said, "Then let's go to work."
After Victor saw the two of them finished interacting, he spoke up, "Today is Liuliu's first day of formal internship. Don't just focus on your own things. Remember to pay more attention to her."
Huo Jie still treated his old father as air and strode out.
Su Liu also said: "Thank you for your kindness, I should be able to handle it myself, there is no need to trouble the Admiral."
"Those people are experienced. If you can't handle it, remember to ask for help." Victor said with a smile, "You're still a student. There's no need to push yourself too hard."
Now that things have come to this, it would be very ungrateful to argue any further.
Su Liu nodded, grabbed his backpack, and quickly followed Huo Jie at Victor's signal.
A private airship was waiting outside the mansion, and several military assistants were discussing important matters in low voices.
After seeing Huo Jie and Colonel Yabo, they immediately stood at attention and saluted.
But before they could utter the greeting, they were startled by Su Liu jogging behind Huo Jie.
What's going on?
Why would the Admiral bring a little girl to work?
Huo Jie got on the airship without any explanation.
Su Liu came up to the few people, saluted and introduced his name.
"Hello everyone, I'm Su Liu, a purifier interning at the Ruins Garden. I'm taking the airship to the island, so I might need to travel with you for a while. Please forgive me if I'm offended."
Afterwards, ignoring the surprised expressions of several people, Su Liu also climbed onto the airship and placed the small schoolbag on his legs very seriously.
The airship took off and headed for the military headquarters.
It was early in the morning and Su Liu had nothing to do, but Huo Jie on the opposite side had been busy since he got on the airship.
He had a lot of things to deal with. There was a huge pile of paper documents submitted, and video conferences were one after another. He was so busy that he didn't even have time to take a look at the scenery.
Su Liu deeply understood what it meant that the greater the ability, the greater the responsibility.
The airship is much faster than private cars and cruise ships. It took us two hours to get to the castle last night, and we arrived just as quickly today.
When getting off the airship, Su Liu heard Huo Jie's voice.
"Purifiers are very rare. As long as they don't kill or burn anything, they usually won't be severely punished."
This was said without any context, but Su Liu understood his meaning almost instantly and replied, "I understand, Admiral."
From the beginning, I understood.
In the ruins garden, just as Su Liu sat down at his desk, Daniel came to hand over the rose rhizome test results from the laboratory.
"They said there was nothing special about the test results. It's just that because you specifically asked for bacteria and fungi, they listed all the pathogens."
There was a thick stack of reports, and Daniel had looked through them one by one before Su Liu came, and indeed found nothing unusual.
Su Liu took it, placed it in front of him and began to read it.
"I'll take a look myself, you go and do your work."
Daniel pursed his lips, said nothing, and left.
Outside the office, several planters hid behind the glass windows and peeped at Su Liu.
Planter Bixi is a young woman in her twenties. At her age, she is already a genius among geniuses to be able to work at the military headquarters.
She happened to be on vacation yesterday and did not see Su Liu "punishing" Kauni. She only heard about it from her colleagues.
I originally thought that Su Liu was a very arrogant and fierce person, but unexpectedly he looked young and gentle, and did not look like someone who could suppress the old man Connie.
"What is she looking at?" Bixi asked in a low voice.
Daniel stared at Suliu intently and said, "The lab gave the test results. She thinks the stench of the Jamil rose is caused by a bacterial infection."
Another older planter snorted coldly, but afraid that Su Liu might hear, he belatedly lowered his voice: "Jamiel roses are inherently smelly. Who does she think she is? How dare she question the research results of the masters?"
"No, no, no," Julia, the young planter, shook her finger. "I just watched a show last night. The host is a big shot in the plant world. He said that according to archaeological research, thousands of years ago on Earth, roses were plants with a strong fragrance."
A fragrant rose?
The growers all found it incredible.
The bespectacled planter in a plaid shirt whispered, "Let's see if she's all talk and no action. If she's just bluffing, we don't have to be nice to her."
In the office, Su Liu looked through all the report results. His shoulders and neck were sore from working at the desk for too long.
She stretched her muscles and called Daniel in.
"It's probably a variant of iris bacterial soft rot, a plant disease caused by Erwinia carotovora and Erwinia arum. It breaks down host tissues, causing the plant to rot and emit a foul odor."
Daniel frowned and said, "I've never heard of this disease you're talking about."
"I just checked the information, and it's indeed a pathogen that's not currently recorded in interstellar space. But humans know very little about nature, so just because it's not recorded doesn't mean it doesn't exist."
Daniel continued to question, "Even the academic community of the Interstellar Alliance has no record of this. How did you know this?"
How do you know?
Because this kind of bacteria was very common on Earth thousands of years ago.
Su Liu, of course, couldn't say what was in his heart. He only ordered, "I want more detailed results. If the Jamil roses coexisted with Gram-negative brevibacteria during the initial purification and cultivation, then it makes sense that they have always emitted a foul odor."
Daniel was even more confused.
Wasn’t it said that there were carrots and seagull bacteria? How come there is also some male bacteria?
He was confused and rubbed his forehead in frustration.
"Miss Purifier, even though you've been using your status as a Purifier to suppress us from the beginning, I still hope you understand that we also have KPIs to complete.
If we don't produce the corresponding results within the assessment period, then those of us who have worked so hard to get in will most likely be fired. Do you understand?"
What he meant was that he didn't want to waste his precious time fooling around with someone like Su Liu, who was a "connected person".
Su Liu had learned to read people's expressions since he was a child, so he immediately understood Daniel's contempt and resistance.
Unlike people like Cousin who are simple-minded and wear everything on their faces, people like Daniel who don't show their true colors are the ones who are really difficult to manage.
Su Liu acted in a superior and unyielding manner, leaning back in his chair and looking at Daniel leisurely.
