Chapter 15: Raw Mulberries for One Night
During the long meal, Sang Fu hoped that the rain would stop soon or be less intense, but things did not go as she wished. Even when night fell and the meal was over, she and Lin Ling sat on the sofa and chatted, and the rain was still as heavy as before.
"Xiao Fu, stop looking. Just stay here peacefully today."
Lin Ling is a woman with great temperament. Different from Jin Qiong who has developed a sharp edge through years of experience in the business world, she is more gentle and always smiling, seemingly having no temper.
Sang Fu was just thinking this when she heard Lin Ling suddenly shout, "Old Zhuang! I asked you to wash the fruit, but you've been doing it for ages. You're so slow!"
After she finished speaking, Lin Ling noticed Sang Fu standing beside her. She seemed to feel embarrassed. She smiled and patted Sang Fu's hand, her tone becoming very gentle again: "I'll go over and take a look."
Sanfu said, "Okay."
Lin Ling then stood up, put his hands on his hips and walked towards the kitchen: "Lao Zhuang!"
“…”
Sangfu pretended not to hear.
Come to think of it, Lin Ling is considered a pillar of the hospital where she works. Without her edge, how can she intimidate those unreasonable patients? She can't become famous just by being gentle.
As soon as they finished their meal, the Zhuang father and son were assigned to the kitchen by Lin Ling, one to wash the fruit and the other to wash the dishes.
Zhuang Kang brought out a plate of washed and cut fruit. He was helpless: "You're in a hurry again. I just wanted to cut it so it would be easier to eat."
Lin Ling: "Hey, what do you mean I'm anxious again? Our son and daughter-in-law are back, can't I be anxious for a while?"
Zhuang Kang: "You made the right choice to become a doctor, otherwise no one would be able to cure your impatience."
Lin Ling: "Zhuang Kang!"
Seeing the war about to break out over there, Sang Fu sat on the sofa, wondering whether she should try to persuade them, when she saw Zhuang Mowen appear at the kitchen door.
From a distance, he seemed to glance in her direction, then walked past Lin Ling and Zhuang Kang and headed straight towards her.
When he got closer, Zhuang Mowen lowered his voice and asked, "Do you want to go upstairs?"
There is always some pressure when getting along with elders. Zhuang Mowen's words are exactly what Sang Fu wanted.
She nodded quickly, then paused slightly and pointed behind him: "Then your parents..."
"You'll get used to it."
Zhuang Mowen was calmer than she had imagined. He looked back and when he saw that no one was paying attention to them, he looked at her again and raised his hand to make a "silence" gesture.
His body almost blocked most of Sang Fu's sight. Zhuang Mowen reminded her softly in a whisper:
"Keep your voice down. If you're seen, you won't be able to leave for a while."
The atmosphere became a little tense. Sang Fu couldn't help but hold her breath, nodded firmly at Zhuang Mowen, and then followed him quietly upstairs.
The journey was smooth, but as luck would have it, when she stepped onto the last step, Sang Fu heard Lin Ling's puzzled voice coming from downstairs: "Eh? Where's the person?"
As a good and disciplined student, Sang Fu had never been so secretive before, especially at Zhuang Mowen's house.
It's as exciting as being in class seriously and then suddenly skipping class.
Her heart tightened and her steps paused for a moment.
There were no lights on upstairs, and their figures were half hidden in the darkness.
Zhuang Mowen remained silent, but the next second after Sang Fu paused, she felt someone touch her back lightly.
The loose sweater was pushed by his palm, touching the soft skin and falling apart at the touch.
Zhuang Mowen lowered his voice and said, "Let's go."
…
Even as they reached the corridor, Sang Fu could still vaguely hear Lin Ling's complaining voice: "It's all because of you arguing with me. I was planning on leaving a good impression on Xiao Fu today, but now..."
Zhuang Mowen opened the door, turned on the light and let her in.
"They're just arguing for fun. They've been arguing for half their lives."
After listening for a while, Sang Fu finally understood.
Although her parents have a good relationship, their ways of getting along are very different.
Sang Cheng was ten years younger than Jin Qiong, and they wouldn't have made it this far if it weren't for their true love. Furthermore, Jin Qiong was the one who basically made the decisions about the company, with her handling the outside world and the man the inside. Sang Cheng was perfectly content with this, and when Jin Qiong was about to lose her temper, Sang Cheng was always the first to give in and appease her.
Unlike Lin Ling and Zhuang Kang, they can argue about the same thing for a long time without any big sparks.
But it's also quite interesting.
Sanfu smiled softly and turned her head to look at the bedroom: "Is this your room?"
There weren't many things inside, but it was neat and clean, without a speck of dust. However, if it was his room, it must have been unoccupied for a long time.
"Yeah." Zhuang Mowen said, "I haven't lived here regularly since I graduated from high school. I only come back occasionally for dinner and a night."
Sangfu nodded and said "hmm".
Once it became quiet, the atmosphere that had been ignored just now began to become very magical.
Zhuang Mowen stood beside her, and in front of them was the bed. Sang Fu stared at the bed and said "hmm" and then fell silent. Her mind was blank, not knowing what to say.
If she had to say something, Sangfu could only say: Fortunately.
Luckily the bed was big.
Zhuang Mowen also felt the strong sense of awkwardness in this silence. He was about to say something when his cell phone suddenly rang.
They had just escaped quickly and secretly. Lin Ling and Zhuang Kang were standing in the blind spot and actually couldn't find where they went, so they had to call him.
Zhuang Mowen took it and said to Sang Fu, "I'll go get your things."
"good."
The door was closed and Zhuang Mowen went out.
Sang Fu sat down in the room. This bedroom was much smaller than the master bedroom in Jinyuan. Apart from the decoration and furnishings, it was the size of an ordinary teenager's room.
There are many assembled models and Legos on the cabinet, and there are more medals and trophies hanging in front of the desk than Legos.
At a glance, all the competitions were first prizes.
Sang Fu's cell phone was left on the sofa. She wondered if Zhuang Mowen would notice it and bring it up for her.
Out of politeness, she didn't look around anymore, but she was also a little bored without her cell phone, so she just stared at the rain outside the window.
The rain was pouring down, but it was actually a little lighter than at the beginning.
But it has been raining for quite a while, and with this kind of heavy rain, the water level in Lincheng has definitely risen. Even if the drainage system is working, the rain will not stop and it will not return to normal in a while.
Even now, outside there was only the sound of heavy rain, accompanied by the occasional flash of lightning that ripped through the sky; not a single sound of cars could be heard.
Fortunately, except for the one time at the dinner table, there has been no thunder since then.
This was the scene Zhuang Mowen saw when he pushed open the door and came in.
The night was dark and the sound of rain was crisp. Sang Fu sat at the desk by the window and watched the rain quietly. Her figure looked very slender in the wide chair.
Perhaps she was staring too intently, or perhaps the sound of rain drowned out the sound of the door opening. It was not until Zhuang Mowen took a step and approached that Sang Fu seemed to react and turned around.
She stood up and took the bag and phone from him: "Thank you."
Zhuang Mowen not only took these, he put the fruit plate in his hand on the table: "My mother asked you to eat it."
Sanfu thanked him again, "But it would be bad if I don't go down."
He smiled: "Do you want to go down?"
Sangfu was very honest: "Can I not go?"
"Yes," Zhuang Mowen gave her a reassuring word of affirmation. "I told them you weren't feeling well and needed to rest first."
Although this statement is vague, it is indeed very useful.
"And this." Zhuang Mowen handed the bag to Sang Fu.
"What's this?"
Sanfu opened it and saw a set of women's pajamas.
“…”
Something that I had finally forgotten briefly came back to my mind with the appearance of this set of pajamas.
Zhuang Mowen explained, "My mom found you pajamas, but this is the only one she hasn't worn yet. Maybe the size isn't right for you... You'll have to make do with it for one night."
"Okay." Apart from this word, Sanfu had no other words to say.
After she finished speaking, she silently put her pajamas aside.
There was another moment of silence between them, and Zhuang Mowen said, "I'm sorry."
"It's okay." Sang Fu replied quickly because she was concentrating. "The weather in Lincheng is really hard to predict."
She never thought of blaming anyone. Blaming others afterward was not Sang Fu's style. Since she hadn't made up her mind to discuss going home with Zhuang Mowen when she was on the road, she could only let things take their course.
It's just... she can't treat it naturally yet.
"Yeah." Zhuang Mowen's gaze fell on the window behind her, where the rain was still beating wildly.
"If the rain stops tonight, we can go back tomorrow."
Sang Fu also looked back, her brows slightly furrowed, a little worried: "I hope so."
As soon as he finished speaking, there was a knock on the door.
"Mo Wen, are you in there?" It was Lin Ling's voice.
Zhuang Mowen felt a little helpless. He gave Sang Fu a look, and Sang Fu immediately understood and took a few steps toward the bed.
That is the blind spot of the door.
Zhuang Mowen then walked over and opened the door. "Mom, what's going on?" Lin Ling tried to look inside, but Zhuang Mowen calmly blocked her way. She could only say, "I just wanted to see if Xiaofu had rested. Didn't you just say she had a slight cold? I was planning to make her some rock sugar and snow pear."
There was no other place beside the bed, and Sang Fu couldn't sit on it, so she squatted down by the bed. She heard Zhuang Mowen's voice coming from afar: "She took cold medicine and just went to bed."
"So soon?"
"Well, didn't you say that she should rest quickly?"
"That's too fast. Could it be a fever? Why are you stopping me? Your mother is a doctor. Isn't it natural for her to go in and take a look..."
The door closed with a click, and the sound faded away indistinctly.
Sang Fu squatted there, hugging her knees for a while, until she could no longer hear any talking, then she slowly stood up.
Her legs felt a little sore, so she walked a few steps. Zhuang Mowen still hadn't come back. She didn't dare to open the door rashly. After thinking about it, she walked over and sent him a message.
[How about it? ]
After a few minutes, he replied: [It’s okay.]
Followed by a sentence: [You take a rest first.]
Sangfu took a deep breath. Even if she wanted to rest, she couldn't fall asleep now.
After thinking for a while, she asked him: "Is the computer in your room working? Can I borrow it?"
Zhuang Mowen: [Sure.]
He then sent a code.
After much thought, Sang Fu decided to start working first.
Maybe I am paralyzed by the busyness, and when that moment comes, I will feel a little more at ease.
By the time today's plan was completed, it was already ten o'clock in the evening and the rain had stopped at some point.
Sanfu turned off the computer, and in the process, her elbow accidentally knocked over the paper bag containing pajamas.
She paused, took out the pajamas, and went into the bathroom.
Lin Ling was very attentive, and there was a brand new pair of underwear inside.
For the rest, put them in the washing machine and wash and dry them, and you can wear them normally tomorrow.
Sang Fu took a shower with mixed feelings, changed into pajamas, and dried her hair. As soon as she opened the bathroom door, her eyes met with Zhuang Mowen who pushed open the door.
“…”
She was not prepared for a moment, so she retreated silently and slammed the door.
Zhuang Mowen: "..."
Through the bathroom door, she vaguely heard the sound of the door outside being closed, and the sound of footsteps passing by the bathroom gradually approaching and then moving away.
Only when the footsteps were farther away did Sangfu open the door and walk out.
Zhuang Mowen opened the wardrobe, seemingly looking for pajamas.
Sang Fu walked around Zhuang Mowen and the edge of the bed near him without saying a word and went to the other side.
Before sitting down, she carefully assessed the bed. She was small, so she only needed to take up a small area next to it. It was more than enough for two people to sleep together and keep some distance.
It would be better if there were two quilts.
She was just about to tell Zhuang Mowen that they each had a quilt, but when she looked up, Zhuang Mowen had already entered the bathroom.
