Ghost King Di Ming
In order to be more energetic at night, Gu Youtian deliberately slept for a few hours during the day.
As Qi Yuan and the other two fell asleep, he sat up and began his post.
Gu Youtian was prepared to fight the poison, but the night was eerily quiet, and nothing entered the defensive shield.
He sensed a light, and upon closer inspection, he discovered that it was the center of the Half-Ghost Seal and the string of beads on Qi Yuan's hand emitting a red glow.
He stared wide-eyed, pressed his face against the half-ghost seal, and examined it closely, but found nothing except for a faint red glow.
Undeterred, Gu Youtian sat down next to Qi Yuan and squinted at the beads from a distance.
After a while, he realized that the light from Qi Yuan's bead and the Half-Ghost Seal was not a coincidence.
They light up at the same time and turn off at the same time.
But Qi Yuan had said that the bracelet was a gift from her parents and something she cherished dearly. What did it have to do with the Half-Ghost Seal? He prepared himself mentally but decided not to tell Qi Yuan; the matter was too suspicious.
The night passed peacefully. But precisely because of this, Gu Youtian felt even more uneasy, his right eyelid twitching incessantly.
He sat quietly in the pitch-black night. Only at dawn did he collapse to the ground.
As soon as Qi Yuan opened her eyes, she heard Master Song's voice: "This is a very bad omen."
She jumped up, about to retort, when she caught a glimpse of a monk meditating in the distance.
The old monk was dressed in a bright red robe, tall and dignified, with a serene expression.
"Who is he?" Mu Qinghuai asked.
“Amitabha, please do not heed this humble monk’s words. This Taoist priest is mistaken. This situation is perplexing and unpredictable, with fortune and misfortune uncertain. Everything is in the dark, and whether it is auspicious or inauspicious depends on the will of Heaven,” the monk said slowly.
Master Song said angrily, "What kind of monk is this, spouting nonsense! There are already ominous signs here. This is the border of Yansha Kingdom. The Ghost King will come. I advise you to be careful!"
The monk found a spot to sit and meditate, his voice steady: "Taoist, do not deceive yourself. A compassionate heart benefits others, which is to benefit oneself. Why this Taoist has come here is the same reason I have come here."
Mu Qinghuai sneered: "I think this monk is much more reliable than Daoist Song."
"Don't side with outsiders! I won't care if you die," Master Song said angrily.
"Have you ever cared about us? It seems you've always been a cold bystander." Qi Yuan glanced sideways at Master Song.
The monk suddenly said, "Young lady, could you come here for a moment? I have something to say."
Qi Yuan walked over, knelt on the ground, and set up a soundproof barrier. The monk had a kind face, and she knew he was a good person at first glance.
"What do you want to say?" she asked. If the monk tampered with the image, it would be visible from outside.
“Young lady, you have come in disguise; this will not last long,” he said.
"You've noticed? Then I won't hide it from you, I did indeed come to Yansha Kingdom using a false identity." She was somewhat surprised.
The monk calmly said, "Your destiny is one of immeasurable wealth and honor, beyond the comprehension of ordinary people. I see that you have a kind face, and I only wish to tell you that your fate will undergo a tremendous change this month."
Qi Yuan was taken aback for a moment, then said, "Thank you for telling me, monk."
As soon as she stood up, the old monk spoke again: "Young lady, the red bead in your hand is no ordinary object."
“…Thank you.” Qi Yuan paused, looked down at the beads she always wore on her hand, and pulled her long sleeves down to cover them even more completely.
Mu Qinghuai's expression was unreadable as he asked, "What did he say?"
"It's nothing. Just telling my fortune." Qi Yuan lowered her head, looking vaguely uneasy.
"Hmm," he replied casually.
Master Song said angrily, "That old monk's origins are unknown. We're the ones in this together, okay? You actually believe his fortune-telling?"
Qi Yuan looked up and gave him a cool glance: "I trust him more than you."
Master Song: ...
She felt something was different today. Ever since she woke up this morning, her heart had been pounding incredibly fast, as if it were about to jump out of her throat. Qi Yuan felt inexplicably restless and unable to concentrate on her cultivation.
Qi Yuan paced back and forth restlessly, her agitation growing with each step she took closer to the Half-Ghost Seal, but she had no time to pay attention to these details.
"boom--"
One second the sky was clear and blue, the next second dark clouds covered the sky, and there was wind and thunder.
Gu Youtian woke up the instant the thunder roared, and jumped up nervously. Mu Qinghuai was equally uneasy.
Master Song concealed the evil in his eyes and curled his lips into a smile.
"Is the Ghost King coming soon?" Gu Youtian asked in a trembling voice.
"It should be." Qi Yuan frowned, her breathing became rapid and short, each inhale as if gathering strength for an impending outburst.
The monk opened his eyes and said in a low voice, "He's here."
The noise grew louder and louder, and the sound of footsteps on the ground became more distinct. A dark mass of demons and ghosts arrived, exuding a sinister aura.
A tall figure appeared in the sky, its face as perfect as if sculpted, exuding a terrifying aura. Its pupils, hidden in the darkness, were as sharp as knives, suffocating the senses.
This male ghost is Di Ming.
Di Ming swept his gaze across the four people on the ground without any change in expression. When his gaze fell on Mu Qinghuai, he chuckled and said, "Isn't this the Demon Lord? What, trying to steal my ghost energy?"
"Heh, only you would be interested in that ghostly aura." Mu Qinghuai's deep voice was completely flat, his tone slightly husky.
Zhu Fu is the Demon Lord?!
Gu Youtian and Master Song were shocked, with the former unconsciously taking a step back.
Qi Yuan said coldly, "You guys fight those demons, I'll go guard the Half-Ghost Seal!"
"No way, why are you always the one doing the most dangerous things?" Gu Youtian shouted.
"Trust me!" She clutched her aching chest and ran to the Half-Ghost Seal.
"This little girl does have some courage," Di Ming said with a forced smile. "But do you think you can hold out? Get her!"
At his command, a large group of demons and ghosts swarmed forward. Without thinking twice, Gu Youtian and Mu Qinghuai immediately began to fight.
Di Ming slowly flew down, his toes touching the ground.
He had just stepped down when Qi Yuan thrust her sword forward, but Di Ming flashed to the other side at a speed she couldn't see, his finger touching the edge of her sword: "This way you can't hit me."
Qi Yuanxin was startled and swung her sword, but only managed to hit thin air. She then unleashed a sweeping kick, creating a powerful gust of wind, which nearly struck him in the ribs.
She slumped her shoulders and raised her elbow to strike the other person's chin. The movement was swift and ruthless, but she was still a step too slow.
"Switching to hand-to-hand combat? Not bad." Di Ming dodged easily, his tone tinged with amusement.
Qi Yuan gritted his teeth and drew his sword. The sword light was like the cold moon and flowing frost. A cold glint cut through the air, and the tip of the sword was pointed directly at his throat. If he hadn't taken a step back, he would have been dead.
She said defiantly, "How could that be?"
She shifted her feet, gracefully sliding half an inch away, just avoiding Di Ming's fatal blow. Qi Yuan paused, then leaped into the air, charging down with her sword in hand.
The sword's edge grazed Di Ming's robes. He was somewhat surprised and, while dodging, said, "You fought quite well. However, you were too slow."
Qi Yuan was already feeling inexplicably flustered and irritable, and hearing these words only fueled her anger, but she still managed to retain a sliver of rationality.
Di Ming swiftly and decisively gripped her arm, his strength so great that she couldn't break free. Qi Yuan's arm was deeply pierced by his sharp armor, drawing blood.
He withdrew his right palm and slammed his left palm into her, the force of his punch whistling through the air. Qi Yuan was slammed against the wall, cracks appearing on the surface behind her.
"Miss Yangmei!"
"Miss Yang!"
Gu Youtian and Mu Qinghuai shouted loudly, but they couldn't break free from their grip and were entangled with dozens of demons.
Qi Yuan coughed up a mouthful of blood, her body severely damaged. She barely had time to wipe the blood from her mouth before stumbling towards the seal of Di Ming.
She spread her arms to block the half-demon seal, staring intently at Di Ming.
He narrowed his eyes dangerously: "I'm just taking back what's mine, little girl, don't interfere."
“You don’t actually have the Great Ascension stage at all, do you? Your pulse was damaged in that battle, so you only have a fake cultivation level. In fact, you’re only at the Refining Void stage!” Qi Yuan seemed to have discovered something incredible, and a mocking smile appeared on her lips.
Di Ming's pupils contracted, as if his secret had been exposed. He struck at her forcefully, but she quickly dodged.
Her heart was beating even faster. Qi Yuan even suspected that she would die from the violent heartbeat, her body heaving up and down.
He flipped his hand, gathering the ghostly energy within him, and unleashed a full-force attack on her.
The ground was shattered, and dust rose everywhere, obscuring everything in the gray haze.
Gu Youtian called out, "Miss!"
As the dust settled, the scene gradually became clearer. A red object, radiating golden light, hovered in mid-air, blocking the fatal blow.
It is a love knot.
Mu Qinghuai's pupils suddenly contracted, his lips trembled slightly, and he roared, "Qi Yuan!!"
Qi Yuan stood up from the ground, supporting herself on her shoulders, a dark cloud hanging over her face, and a mocking smile on her lips.
It was Ouyang Lanyue's love knot that saved her life.
She forced a smile and said with difficulty, "Want to take back the ghost energy? That depends on whether you have the strength!"
Perhaps because of the restlessness within her, Qi Yuan completely forgot how to write the word "calm" and dragged her heavily injured body to slash with her sword again and again.
Despite her severe internal injuries, she didn't feel much strain on her movements, except for the pain; in fact, she felt increasingly relaxed and faster. She sensed that something was changing within her body.
Di Ming retreated a considerable distance, his half-closed eyes snapping open with a fierce glint in them.
He felt that the little girl in front of him seemed to have changed in some way, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it.
There's a vast difference between the Nascent Soul and Void Refinement realms, but Di Ming could tell her age, making him even more convinced that this girl couldn't be allowed to live. He was over a hundred years old when he reached Void Refinement, while this girl had already reached Nascent Soul at seventeen. She must be a genius disciple in the cultivation world, and if she didn't die, she would be his greatest threat in the future.
"Did you perhaps use some kind of evil magic?" Di Ming could no longer dodge easily; he could feel that each of her moves was stronger than the last.
Qi Yuan was also surprised by her inexplicable increase in strength. She scoffed, "You evil creature, how dare you accuse me of using evil magic?"
Time could not be delayed any longer. Di Ming descended with his power, preparing to break the seal.
The moment his ghostly aura touched the half-ghost array, Qi Yuan's heart stopped. The half-ghost array lit up with a blinding red light, and Qi Yuan's bracelet also lit up.
"You're a ghost?!" Di Ming gasped.
