Chapter 207: Ineffective

Liu Jiangqing did not receive a reply from Zhang Mingxuan, so Wu Yiming came over.

Upon seeing Wu Yiming, both of them felt that this person was probably not the real owner of the shop. After all, he looked too young and didn't seem like someone with such a large budget.

Of course, they weren't stupid and wouldn't show anything openly. Besides, since he was respected so much by the shop assistants, he must be someone important, or at least someone who had the respect of his master.

Wu Yiming exchanged greetings with the two men, and after sitting down, he said, "I heard that you two gentlemen have come to inquire about the training course?"

This was Zhang Mingxuan's business, so it was Zhang Mingxuan who spoke up: "That's right, I learned about the existence of this training class from the newspaper, so I thought I'd come and take a look."

Wu Yiming was a straightforward person and said frankly, "What do you two gentlemen want to know? Please feel free to ask. I will answer to the best of my knowledge."

Liu Jiangqing smiled and said, "Young master is a straightforward person. My name is Liu Jiangqing. May I ask your honorable surname?"

Wu Yiming had no intention of hiding his name and said directly, "My surname is Wu, and my given name is Yiming."

Liu Jiangqing: "Young Master Wu, I came here today to inquire about the specific details of the training course. The newspapers have already covered it in detail, but I still wanted to see it for myself."

Wu Yiming expressed his understanding: "Learning a craft is indeed a big deal and cannot be taken lightly. It is only right that the two young masters come to ask for your advice. If there is anything you do not understand, please ask. If possible, I will certainly answer your questions."

This time it was Zhang Mingxuan who spoke: "I am Zhang Mingxuan, and I just want to ask about the details of the ten-year agreement you have made." Ten years to work for someone else sounds a bit like a contract of servitude.

Wu Yiming explained, "Don't worry, that ten-year agreement isn't a contract of servitude. The training program will have different content depending on each person's aptitude. After completing the training, they will work in the store for ten years. During these ten years, our department store will give them a certain percentage based on their skills and the value of the goods they produce. Our store can guarantee that they won't do anything else..."

Wu Yiming explained in great detail. In her words, this ten-year agreement seemed to be a very good deal, but Zhang Mingxuan dared not be careless about something that concerned his future.

So I asked a lot of trivial questions.

Finally, Wu Yiming smiled and exclaimed, "You two gentlemen are truly meticulous. You've asked so many questions. I wonder if you two would be willing to earn some money for books?"

Liu Jiangqing and Zhang Mingxuan were puzzled: "What does Young Master Wu mean by this?"

Wu Yiming then explained, "I just spoke with the two gentlemen and found that you have some understanding of the study class I am going to open. I heard that you two have the title of Xiucai (a degree in the imperial examination system), so I was thinking of asking you two to work together to write a detailed introduction to the study class."

It's something very similar to a modern college admission brochure.

Liu Jiangqing and Zhang Mingxuan were a little confused when they heard this, wondering how the conversation had suddenly turned to this topic.

Liu Jiangqing and Zhang Mingxuan exchanged a glance, and then Liu Jiangqing said, "Let us go back and think about this matter."

Wu Yiming: "That's natural."

Wu Yiming chatted with the two for a while longer. Over the past few years, Wu Yiming has grown up. Although Liu Jiangqing and Zhang Mingxuan are both young talents, they lack experience. So Wu Yiming quickly managed to get information out of them, and then he learned about their backgrounds.

After learning this, Wu Yiming made a plan in his mind.

When Liu Jiangqing and Zhang Mingxuan left, they began to speak highly of Wu Yiming.

The two left Wu Yiming's shop before they began to talk.

"To be honest, this young master Wu is truly a remarkable person; he doesn't seem like a businessman at all," Liu Jiangqing said with a smile.

Zhang Mingxuan retorted, "What's wrong with him? He seems very shrewd to me."

Liu Jiangqing then explained, "He is indeed a shrewd person, but he doesn't look like a businessman. Furthermore, his methods and approaches don't have the greasy feel of a typical businessman. In fact, he's quite likable."

Zhang Mingxuan pondered for a moment and said, "That's true. His mannerisms do have the air of a scholar, and he doesn't talk about profit like a businessman. However, he's a bit too weak. I noticed that he's physically frail. You said that ordinary people can't afford such a large shop in that area, so his family background must be very good. He must be physically weak, otherwise someone with his looks and character should be pursuing an official career."

Liu Jiangqing remained silent. The two returned to the academy, and Zhang Mingxuan packed his things. Taking advantage of the academy's two-day holiday, he went home to discuss things with his family.

There's no denying that Wu Yiming is an excellent orator, and he was somewhat tempted.

After the two left, Wu Yiming found someone else to come. She had already discovered that while there were people in the capital who had heard of the study class, not many took it seriously. She also understood that in today's world, scholars were considered noble. As the saying goes, "Of all professions, only studying is noble."

Therefore, it was simply a pipe dream for a scholar to give up his studies and learn a trade; it was rather far-fetched of her to think otherwise.

So she had the newspaper ad removed, but it didn't have much effect. She wasn't short of money, and she couldn't afford to waste it on random advertising!

"Master, why were the ads suddenly removed?"

Master is quite confident about this matter, isn't he?

"The results aren't ideal. Go find some orphans and beggars. The main target audience for the training class is these people, understand?"

"This servant understands."

While Wu Yiming was busy with his tasks, Zhu Tao went to survey the terrain.

Zhu Tao knew that the bookstore was geared towards a wide range of scholars, so the location had to be carefully chosen. The surrounding area couldn't be too noisy, since it was a place for studying. It also couldn't be too remote, as that would prevent many people who wanted to study from finding the place. However, it also couldn't be too bustling, since although the emperor had told him to spend money as he pleased, as a minister who cared about the emperor, he would naturally try to save as much money as possible for him.
