Duan Kun thought for a moment. There was another reason why he came with his aunt this time: it was for his sister's marriage. His aunt intended to match his sister with Guo Shu.
His younger sister, Duan Qiong, was his own sister from the same mother. He was a bit of a playboy, but he still had some feelings for her. However, Duan Kun was somewhat unwilling to let his sister marry Guo Shu.
He felt that Guo Shu's status was not good enough for his sister. Guo Shu's father was just a scholar who had never taken the imperial examinations because of his poor health. He was not even a teacher because he had no official rank. He had some reputation in calligraphy and painting, but this reputation meant nothing to the Duan family.
His aunt was already marrying down, and now she was making his sister marry someone who didn't even have a title and who didn't get along with him. Duan Kun was unwilling from the bottom of his heart.
Duan Kun thought about it for a while and finally agreed.
Guo Shu wasn't qualified to be his brother-in-law. Besides, he had a vague suspicion that his sister already had someone in her heart.
Liu Ming was overjoyed to receive a positive answer from Duan Kun. He found Guo Shu's usual behavior truly annoying and wanted to see how Guo Shu would lose face when the teachers and classmates of the academy saw such a scene.
Guo Shu felt the air was much fresher when he came out of Chu Xiang Pavilion; the smell of perfume inside was too strong and gave him a headache.
"Young Master, are you going back?"
Guo Shu said, "Let's go back, otherwise our parents will worry."
His refusal just now wasn't really an excuse. He loves reading, and sometimes he gets completely absorbed in new and good books. Once, he stayed up all night reading a book, and the next day at dinner, he suddenly fainted. Although the doctor said it was nothing serious, his parents still kept it in mind and sent someone to check on him almost every night to make sure he was sleeping properly.
When Guo Shu returned to his courtyard, he saw his father's servant waiting there.
"But what's wrong, Father?"
"Young Master, the Second Master heard that you were taken away by the young master and was afraid something might happen, so he sent me to wait here."
Guo Shu was touched by her father's concern: "Go back and tell your father to rest assured. I will explain the situation to him tomorrow."
"Then young master, please rest well. This servant will go and report back to the second master."
"Um"
Guo Shu's father only came out of his study and went to his wife's courtyard after receiving the news.
When Madam Guo saw him coming over, she said, "Why are you resting so late today, sir?"
Not wanting his wife to worry, he said, "I got a nice painting and I'm quite engrossed in looking at it."
