Chapter 306 Agreement

Zhang Zhelan said, "I'll talk to Father after Mother agrees."

Zhang Peilan said directly, "Mother would never agree, and Father probably won't either. Brother, honestly, there's no need to take this risk."

Zhang Zhelan was extremely stubborn.

The brother and sister couldn't reach an agreement, and Zhang Peilan went back home.

This situation can't stay at this stalemate; it seems her father has to step in.

She calculated the time, and went there around the time her father returned from his shift.

As the only daughter in the family, Zhang Peilan was very much loved by Zhang Ning. However, she didn't usually come to the front yard. The fact that she was waiting for him here today must mean something was wrong.

So he called his daughter to the study.

"Father, my brother is going to the army camp."

Zhang Ning frowned: "What is he going to the military camp for?"

I was on duty all day and my mind still wasn't quite clear.

"What else can I do? Become a military doctor."

Zhang Ning was startled: "Are you serious?"

"Would your daughter lie to you? My brother plans to get Mother's consent first. Of course, Mother is reluctant to let my brother go to such a dangerous place. Now Mother and brother are at an impasse, and neither of them can persuade the other. Father, why don't you go and persuade my brother? Swords have no eyes on the battlefield. Our family doesn't need to let my brother earn this credit."

Zhang Ning sighed: "Dad knows about this. You should go back first, and I'll try to persuade him again later."

As for who to persuade, Zhang Ning didn't say, so Zhang Peilan naturally assumed that her father was persuading her brother.

Zhang Peilan had always trusted her father's abilities, which is why she felt at ease going out.

The next day, Zhang Ning took some time to call his son to the study. The father and son talked for a long time in the study, and when they finally came out, Zhang Zhelan's eyes were red.

But you could tell he was happy.

That evening, Zhang Ning told Yang about his son's plans to go to the military camp. Naturally, Yang refused, and the couple argued all night.

It's no wonder that Mrs. Yang made a fuss. She originally thought that no one in the family wanted their son to go out. Who would be willing to let him go to such a dangerous place!

"You heartless bastard! You don't care about the child that came from your body? You agreed to it as soon as you opened your mouth. If anything happens to our son, how am I supposed to live? I'll never forgive you."

Yang was usually a gentle and graceful woman, but when faced with such a situation, she lost all her usual gentleness and elegance. Her tantrum was no different from that of a shrewish old woman throwing a tantrum in the street.

Zhang Ning let her make a fuss, even though he didn't think he was in the wrong. His son was determined to make his own way in the world, and he had tried to persuade him, so in the end he could only agree.

He thought that his son was still young, and it would be good for him to go out and make his way in the world for a few years. However, he was at the age where he was about to get married, so he didn't quite agree. But when his son insisted on doing so, he had no objection.

This is the difference in thinking between men and women: one is more emotional, and the other is more rational.

Although he didn't feel guilty, he was the one who agreed, so he thought to himself that giving in to her was definitely not wrong, absolutely not.

And so, Yang made a scene for half the night, her eyes red and swollen from crying. The next day, when she saw her daughter who came to pay her respects, she started crying again.

She cried as she spoke, and Zhang Peilan knew exactly what had happened. To be honest, she was also a little confused.

She had tried to persuade her brother not to go to the army, but in the end, her father nodded so quickly and made the decision. In their family, once her father made a decision, it was basically unchangeable.

Now Zhang Peilan didn't know how to persuade her mother anymore. After much persuasion, she finally managed to leave.

Within two days, the matter was completely settled. Her brother's name was even submitted. Her mother cried terribly, which also broadened her horizons.

This was the first time her mother had ever cried like this. Before, when she cried, she at least looked somewhat weak, but this time, she felt a sense of desolation.

Zhang Peilan privately told her brother, "Brother, always think of yourself first. Don't keep running to dangerous places. Even if you don't think about yourself, you should think about your family and your mother."

Although Zhang Zhelan's wish came true, she wasn't particularly happy. After all, given her family's situation, she still felt guilty.

"I understand. Don't worry. Spend more time with your mother and try to put her mind at ease."

"That's for sure, do you even need to tell me?" The tone wasn't very friendly, and deep down, she was still angry. She was just being nosy and making a scene.

Zhang Zhelan knew that his decision went against his family's plans, but this was the path he had chosen and was willing to take, so he went without hesitation.

The siblings had a good relationship. Although Zhang Peilan had some minor complaints, she couldn't help but give them more instructions, afraid that there might be something she had overlooked.

As for Madam Yang, although she kept saying things like "unfilial son" and "bastard," the matter was already settled, and she couldn't help but worry. At this point, there was no question of her son losing face. Her son had made a decision, and if she continued to act out of spite, wouldn't she just be causing trouble for him?

And so, the Zhang family's lively time ended and peace returned.

Zhang Ning's family situation is not unique; other families' legitimate children are also willing to go to the military camp for training. Some are forced to do so out of necessity, since even legitimate children are sometimes favored and sometimes not.

Some people, like Zhang Zhelan, are purely driven by "ideals".

After half a month, the list was finalized, with a total of more than three hundred people.

Yunrong looked at the list and was somewhat surprised; it was indeed much more than she had expected.

She thought most people would be reluctant to leave their children, but to her surprise, they were all quite willing.

Among these people, only a minority were born of the principal wife; most were born of concubines or children from collateral branches of the family.
