"My lord, the Princess Consort wishes to see you."
Faka was somewhat surprised. He and his second wife treated each other with the utmost respect, and that was putting it nicely. In reality, they were even more polite to each other than ordinary guests.
Faka never skimped on anything in the backyard for her, and he always gave her the respect due to her. But the only problem was that he only visited her room twice a month, and the couple rarely saw each other.
Because he went there at night, Faka now thinks that the woman's face is somewhat blurry.
"But tell me what it is?"
"They didn't mention that, but the Princess Consort was summoned to the palace yesterday, which should be related to this."
The servants in the mansion were all aware of the relationship between the two masters; ordinary wives almost never sought out their husbands.
Faka thought to himself, "Could it be that he has something important to say since he came at this time?"
"Let her in!"
Hesheli entered shortly afterward.
She was somewhat dazed when she pushed the door open. She remembered that she had been to this study before, many years ago. At that time, she had longed to warm the heart of the man in the study, but then she was disappointed, and finally despaired. She never came in again on her own initiative.
Upon entering again, the furnishings remained largely unchanged, seemingly the same study from many years ago. Hesheli felt it was absurd of him to remember so clearly, considering he hadn't visited that many times in the past.
Hesheli pulled himself out of his thoughts, walked expressionlessly to the desk, and Faka sat in the chair behind the desk.
"Is there something you need?"
Faka didn't show any expression either. What expression could he have? They had been married for many years and had never had any affection for each other. He couldn't possibly show any expression.
"Greetings, Your Majesty. The Empress sent someone to summon me to the palace and told me something, saying that she wanted Your Majesty to know, but because it was not appropriate to tell Your Majesty directly, she asked me to pass on the message to you."
Faka asked, "What is it?" It was surprising that the Empress would have to speak on behalf of the Princess Consort.
Hesheli said bluntly, "It's not exactly a glorious thing to talk about. Her Majesty the Empress is probably just trying to save face for the Niohuru family, but we can't keep quiet about it. This is a dossier from Cangzhou, containing the testimony of a merchant surnamed Qiu from Cangzhou. Take a look for yourself, Your Majesty! If you don't believe me, you can send someone to Cangzhou to verify it. Her Majesty said that the witness is still alive!"
Faka thought for a moment, then remembered the merchant surnamed Qiu. It seemed that the family his wife stayed with when she gave birth was surnamed Qiu.
When it came to his former wife, Faka immediately tensed up. Hesheli looked at him, pursed her lips, and put the dossier on the table: "My lord, don't be sad after you read it. Life still goes on. I won't disturb you any longer to find out the truth."
Before Faka could even pick up the files on the table, she left without hesitation, her steps even carrying a hint of cheerfulness.
How could she not be happy? If she weren't afraid that he might really go crazy and it would affect her, she would have wanted to stay and make sarcastic remarks, rubbing salt into his wounds. How satisfying that would be!
Faka had a bad feeling after hearing Hesheli's words. He hesitated for a moment, then picked up the dossier and started reading. The more he read, the angrier he became. When he saw something he couldn't resist, he destroyed everything on the table.
His indifferent nature, cultivated over many years, showed no trace of it at this moment.
Hearing the commotion from inside the study, someone outside asked, "Master, shall I come in?"
"No need, no one should come in."
Faka did not believe it, nor did he want to believe it.
The son he'd loved for years was a fake; the concubine he'd trusted for years was a vicious scorpion; his own daughter was being mistreated and suffering greatly outside the home. How could he possibly believe such a truth?
He locked himself in his study for an entire day, and only let people in after dark to light the lamp and tidy up the study.
He originally planned to send someone to Cangzhou, but after thinking about it, he decided to go himself.
He took leave without informing anyone in the manor of his whereabouts and set off for Cangzhou.
Hesheli watched his series of actions and felt an immense sense of satisfaction, a satisfaction she hadn't felt in over a decade.
After Faka left the mansion, Hesheli was all smiles every day, trying to prepare delicious food and fun activities. The people serving her also benefited greatly. She didn't care about money; having no children, she could only spend it on herself. When she was happy, she naturally rewarded them more.
Aunt Hua, on the other hand, didn't notice anything. Over the years, Faka hadn't shown her much affection, so naturally she didn't know Faka's whereabouts, especially since he was deliberately keeping them from her.
However, because she was the former wife's maid, he trusted her to some extent.
It only took Faka a day to get to Cangzhou. They went to investigate overnight and spent five days in Cangzhou before they completely believed the testimony in the case file.
He then went to see Qiu Wen, his biological daughter.
Then they discovered that although she wasn't exactly a carbon copy of his former wife, she did bear some resemblance.
The other few resembled him somewhat, which immediately stirred a tender feeling in Faka's heart, making him want to be his father.
In fact, Hualien's idea of switching the prince with a cat was just a fleeting thought, because she noticed that the princess consort and Madam Qiu were somewhat similar; otherwise, she wouldn't have dared to do such a thing.
Qiu Wen also noticed that someone had been staring at her recently, and she had some guesses in her mind. Xu Nian had sent someone to tell her when he came to Cangzhou from Faka.
On the sixth day after arriving in Cangzhou, Faka planned to reunite with his relatives.
Qiu Wen naturally did not object, and the process of recognizing her relatives went relatively smoothly. Faka did indeed have feelings for his former wife, and out of love for her, he thought of the suffering his biological daughter had endured over the years and wanted to love her more.
