Chapter Fourteen: Consort Xi's Thoughts

The Empress had suffered grievances from the Empress Dowager and had nowhere to vent them, so she could only take it out on the people below her. Thus, before Yunrong could even react, she began her first visit to the Empress's palace to pay her respects after the selection!

Yunrong had to secretly do experiments at night, and she was prone to feeling sleepy in the morning. As a result, she had to get up very early to go to Jingren Palace to pay her respects, which was going to be the death of her!

Yunrong, a concubine who had never been summoned by the emperor, should not have been entitled to pay her respects to the empress unless the emperor had summoned her! Who knows what happened!

Yunrong was afraid of making a mistake the next day, so she did nothing that night and went to sleep quietly!

Even so, I was still groggy and not very awake when I woke up the next day!

Bai Guo helped her get dressed, Bai Xiang helped her with her washing and grooming, Qin'er, a palace maid from the Imperial Household Department, was in charge of dressing her up, and Hong'er and Granny Changchun accompanied Yunrong out of the palace to the Empress's palace!

Each concubine has six palace maids serving her, along with several eunuchs! Since Baiguo and Baixiang are unfamiliar with palace affairs, they took Changchun and Hong'er with them. As for Changyin, she also stayed in the palace to make arrangements, to see who was in Yongshou Palace and how to make the necessary arrangements!

Once outside the palace, Yunrong was fully awake! And there was Consort Chen by her side!

Yunrong was getting dressed when she heard Baiguo come over and say that Consort Chen was requesting an audience! Yunrong had never met Consort Chen before! Not wanting to keep her waiting outside, she let her in. After Yunrong finished dressing, she finally met Consort Chen!

Chen Changzai is a pretty and delicate woman, but her temperament is somewhat decadent, making her seem unapproachable!

Yunrong had no intention of forming cliques. After getting to know Consort Chen, she took her with her to the Empress's Palace!

Consort Chen was a woman of few words! Yunrong had hardly seen her utter a single sentence! The two arrived at Jingren Palace in silence!

Because Yongshou Palace is located in the Western Six Palaces, and Yunrong is the only principal wife in the Western Six Palaces, Jiu did not encounter any other mistresses along the way!

When Yunrong arrived, Consort Xi was already there, along with Consort Gao and Noble Lady Chen from her palace! Besides her, Consort Nara and Noble Lady Bu from Yonghe Palace were also there!

Yunrong arrived early!

Consort Xi knew Yunrong; they were from the same year of the imperial concubine selection. Moreover, many people were wary of Yunrong because of her appearance. Rumors circulated that she would definitely drop out, which stopped the gossip. Unexpectedly, she ended up keeping her nameplate and entering the palace!

It's unclear whether she spread those rumors herself to mislead people, or if something unexpected happened! Consort Xi leans towards the first guess, thinking Yunrong is a scheming woman!

Consort Xi thought Yunrong was a scheming woman, but she smiled and said, "Consort Xian, you've arrived quite early!"

Yunrong said, "I didn't arrive as early as Consort Xi!" With that, Yunrong found a suitable spot to sit down.

Consort Xi sighed, "My dear sister, you're really not being fair. We're all from the same batch of imperial concubines, yet you don't like to talk to us. As a result, I don't understand you at all, which makes it seem like it's my fault! Don't you think that makes sense, sister?"

Yunrong didn't remember offending the Empress's sister. Why was she acting like she had lit a powder keg? Was she just looking for trouble?

Yunrong: "Didn't my sister also not come to find me? Why are you blaming me!"

Consort Xi smiled and said, "Sister was just joking, why are you taking it so seriously, little sister!"

Yunrong: Damn it! What is this? Is this a joke? This is just asking for trouble!

Yunrong thought to herself, "Sister was just joking! I was the one who took it seriously. I thought you were serious! I was startled. I didn't think you would be so petty as to hold a grudge over something so small! I was just being naive!"

Yunrong: Yeah, right! Anyone can talk back! I've watched palace dramas, after all!

Consort Xi hadn't expected that this quiet person during the selection process was actually quite talkative! She thought to herself, "What a good actor!"

Consort Xi, as the Empress's younger sister, was inherently arrogant. Moreover, Consort Xi had a secret thought: she was extremely jealous of her older sister, who was several years her senior, since childhood!

When she was old enough to understand, her older sister was already famous in the capital. Whenever she attended a banquet or met an elder, people would always exclaim in amazement when they mentioned her: "This is the Empress's younger sister! What a wonderful girl, just like her sister!"

No one likes to be inferior to someone else, not even her sister! This time, her family sent her to the palace. Although her mother didn't explain why, she already knew why she had to go to the palace!

Her elder sister, the Empress, had a son named Prince Chenghu whose health was already failing! She entered the palace only to give birth to a prince with the blood of the Hesheli clan. If she gave birth to a prince and had the support of the Hesheli clan, what did it matter that her sister was the Empress? She would still have to plan for her son!

The Empress had no idea that her younger sister had such thoughts. When the two sisters were young, because of their age difference and because the Empress was the eldest daughter, she was raised with stricter discipline and did not want to stay by her mother's side like her younger sister did!

Her mother knew a little about it, but she thought it was just her youngest daughter's temper and didn't take it to heart. Besides, since her youngest daughter grew up by her side, she was biased towards her youngest daughter!

She started provoking Yunrong because she felt that Yunrong was threatening in appearance and had a good family background. She wanted to confront Yunrong first and then have her sister, the empress, confront her as well!

Yunrong had no idea what was going on in Consort Xi's mind; she simply didn't like this person! As for whether they were on good terms, that depended on whether the other person had the ability to back them up!

Yunrong believes that in the face of absolute strength, all conspiracies are paper tigers. If you are defeated by a conspiracy, it only means that you are not strong enough!
